Thanks to some very generous sponsors, the Recolle Fashion Show was able to book a nice space, a large warehouse that's been converted into a multi-use venue. About a third of the space is blocked off by a large white divider to form the backstage area. A single white catwalk extends from the divider, heavily lit from above, with rows of seating facing it on either side. The catwalk is set about four feet off the ground and terminates at a platform eight feet square. A portion of the front row at the platform is reserved for the sponsors and their guests.

General guests can enjoy the fashion show itself as well as the afterparty. Light refreshment (think hors d'oeuvres) and music will follow the show, providing people the opportunity to mingle and discuss the outfits. Take pictures with your favorite model or meet some of the designers! Request a song from the DJ or live musicians. Guests can grab a plate and walk around, or settle at one of the tables along the perimeter of the space. There will even be a bar available, though it won't be open and ID will be required.

[Li-Na isn't the designer, but she's been watching ever since they brought out this particular outfit. It is one of her favorites.]

It is a three-piece suit in a deep raspberry red. It has an open lapel design with a wide white and gold decorative trim. The collar, cuffs, and pocket flaps are black with white piping. There is a gold braid trim on the collar, and a lace trim on the cuffs. The vest is black and the fabric matches the cuffs and collar. The coat is long, reaching your knees, and the hem again has the same black trim and lace details as the rest of the coat. The trousers are the same material as the coat, but otherwise have no distinctive details.

I think you look very regal, Mr. Murdock.

[ He listens to her description, following some details with his fingers lightly brushing over the decorations and lace she lists. ]

The color of raspberries.

[ He muses and smiles; she picked a good way to describe the color. He remembers the colors of fruits stacked in grocery stores and the farmers market stands. ]

It feels and sounds very ornate, strictly dry clean only. I've been told red is my color if I'm getting dressed in this by professionals I guess it must be true.

[ Ha ha. ]

Yes, this is a very good color on you. Red goes well with brown hair. And you have a good chin, so you can carry fancy outfits.

[What a chin has to do with anything, Li-Na doesn't actually know. It's just a thing she's heard various teachers say over the years. 'Ah, you have a good chin.']

Is that the secret to looking good in high fashion? A good chin?

[ He always thought that compliment was related to endurance but maybe Li-Na literally means it. ]

Thank you for organizing this event by the way. I didn't think this was one of Zee's suggestions that I'd be able to check off the list.

[ He smiles and tilts his head then back up as he speaks. ]

Experienced or not, here we are. It's one thing to want to put together an event, it's different actually doing it. And volunteering to participate was so simple I ended up a part of this before I even realized.

[ You know who put him on the model list before asking him and told him in passing "By the way you're modeling at this event." ]

I do not think I could have done it without Mr Nelson. Whenever I got stuck, he helped me find a solution.

[she is genuinely fond of her English teacher]

I am glad you found it easy to become involved though. I wanted regular people to be able to join in as well. Even as models.

[she saw the list. she absolutely saw the list and recognized her teacher's handwriting]

[ He nods, noting her happy tone when she talks about Foggy. Foggy doesn't exactly brag about whatever students respect him; it's nice to discover one of them. ]

Ah, I'm familiar with Mr. Nelson. Makes sense he'd know how this kind of thing works. Knowing him he'd want you to be proud of what you've done here.

Have you modeled before?

[ He has to wonder if she has a connection or experience related to fashion. ]

That is pretty much what he told me himself.

['Familiar with Mr. Nelson.' Uh-huh. She saw you two talking after the school musical.]

I have not modeled before, but I am a dancer. So I am comfortable with dressing up and being on stage.

[And she likes dressing cute. But that's kind of hard to explain without sounding full of oneself.]

[ "Familiar" includes "friends with." It's just... harder to say "He's my friend" than the more casual "I know him" without getting self-conscious and blowing it. Funny how one of the two nights Matt was there Mr. Nelson suddenly had a red painted rose. ]

Well then the man himself has spoken.

I hadn't thought of that but dance would be a relevant experience. You must have the posture for it.

Dancing is all about posturing. The human body is very expressive.

What about you, Mr Murdock? Have you modeled before?

[sorry Matt, she's seen that calendar, there was no way someone didn't pass one (or two or three or more) around the high school]

[ He initially starts to answer no. He hasn't walked on a runway before or had fashion designers choosing clothes for him. Then he thinks about photography and he remembers the calendar. Without thinking he clears his throat and shifts his weight between feet, not so sure if it's worth mentioning or something he wants to. ]

Uh no I haven't done any official modeling. I once had my photo taken and later put in a calendar but that's about as much as anyone has fussed over taking my picture before.

[Li-Na can't help but smile at the mention of the calendar and try as she might, the amusement in evident in her voice]

Oh? A calendar? Like one of those charity calendars with the cute firemen?
