WHAT: Derek is Kenta's best man for his wedding. Now he needs to explain what this means, and Kenta needs to buy him a suit.

Best Man

[Now that Derek is officially Kenta's Best Man, there are several things they need to go over, none of which Kenta has any clue about. This is exactly why he and Derek have decided to hold some regular sessions to bring Kenta up to date with American wedding traditions, so he can choose which ones to observe.

The first one on an evening after they both finish work. Kenta opens the door to Derek to welcome him inside.]

Come on in. I have some food ready.

[That Fai brought in earlier.]

[Derek enters the apartment with a notebook and pen in hand. In the notebook he has printed off a list of things he found of the internet that are the duties of the best man. Derek many know how a "western" wedding is like, but it still doesn't mean he knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to being a best man. Derek wants to do this right.]

Thanks mate. So... what do we know about what is going to happen at the wedding?

[Mainly, it's in a couple of weeks and I'm starting to panic.]

[Kenta leads the way to the living room area where there's food and drinks on the coffee table so they can sit.]

Well, the ceremony will be traditional Japanese, with an exchange of sake cups. You won't have to do much for this except be on my side on the room and sit in seiza... which reminds me, make sure you have nice socks on for this, since you can't wear shoes on tatami mats. We can get you some with the suit if needed.

I don't know if Jirou wants to do a more western part as well with vows. We need to set a time for exchanging the rings, obviously. And the reception is probably going to just segue directly from it.

Nice socks?

[As long as there aren't holes, Derek considers them "nice socks."]

[Derek takes out a notebook with a list of things he's written down from off the internet.]

I wasn't completely sure what all I'd have to do, so I did a bit of research and you can let me know what you are doing for the wedding and wheat you and Jirou have decided to throw out. Like for starters, are you guys having separate bachelor and bachelorette parties... or I guess separate bachelor parties? Also, whose the maid of honor?

[Let's see this list, Derek.]

I ... don't know if we're doing these or not. Given the circumstances right now, we might even end up doing them after the wedding if we do them. Which means we might do it together in the end.

Fai's taking care of things on Jirou's side.

Well what do you need me to do? Do I need to organize a bachelor party? Are there going to be other groomsmen? Do you need to to reserve any places you will be having the wedding events? Pretty much mate, it seems I'm your right hand man.

No need for a party right now. And no, no groomsmen. I think Jirou handled most of the bookings for the venues...

Honestly, I'm not quite sure what if anything on this list needs doing. Do people really do all of this in America?

[Derek nods.]

Yeah, the groom side anyway. The bride side, does even more. Cake, finding the right dress, flowers. Traditionally the bride plans most of it and the groom pays for the honeymoon. Will you two be doing a honeymoon? Oh, also, are you guy doing the traditional bouquet and guarder toss?

Well, the honey moon will depend if travel is still restricted... [Thanks Retrospec].

As for the rest... I think I need to ask Jirou that.

The one thing we can do is get you a proper suit, though.

Well you could go somewhere in the city. But yeah, a suit. That's a start. We also have to get boutonnieres. In general it seems I just help keep things organized and I remind you to do things so the wedding day goes smoothly. But in all seriousness, the bouquet and guarder toss is hilarious.

Oh, will you and Jirou being doing a first dance? Because that then usually ends with inviting others to dance and the brides maids and grooms men tend to join them on the dance floor. But since there aren't any brides maids or grooms men, does that just mean Fai and I have to dance?

[It's not ideal in Derek's mind, but he will do it for the sake of the wedding.]

I.... have no idea.

[Seriously, Derek, all of that is taken care of by Jirou and Fai because they actually like doing it, while he has school and work.]

What's a first dance exactly?

The first dance is exactly what it sounds like. It's the first dance between the bride and the groom after they are married. There is also the dance where the groom will dance with his mom and the bride with her dad, but they aren't mandatory. The first dance though, very common.

Well, my parents won't be there anyway. Jirou's parents will, though. But I don't think we'll have one special dance. Everyone can dance whenever they want, it's not meant to be stuffy.

[Did he just call a wedding tradition stuffy? Yes, yes, he did.]

Suit

[One thing Kenta wants to do for Derek is buy him a really nice suit for the wedding, so once they have decided when to go shopping, Kenta comes to knock on Derek's door.

Things will be made a bit more complicated by the absence of the shop staff, but Kenta is confident about choosing suits, and he can leave the money in the shop.]

Derek? Are you ready?

[Derek opens up his front door to greet Kenta.]

Yeah, mate. let me just grab my keys.

[Derek reaches over to a table next to the door and grabs his wallet and keys. Stepping out of the apartment and closing the door, he starts making his way towards the elevator.]

So what kind of suit are we getting?

[They go down to the parking garage so they can get Kenta's Infiniti sports coupe to drive out. As they do, Kenta looks Derek up and down, sizing him up.]

Armani, I think. It'll look good on you.

[blondferret]

[Derek's eyebrows raise in interest.]

Armani?

[Derek may be middle class, but he knows Armani is nice. Derek pauses when he sees Kenta's care. It's not necessarily Derek's pick in car, but he cant' deny that it is a REALLY nice car. Derek lets out a low whistle.]

Nice set of wheels mate.

Thanks. That's the one I prefer using when driving in town.

[Because all the other ones under tarps as well as the nice black Mercedes and the Jaguar? They're his too.

Once they're buckled in, Kenta drives out, and contrary to what you might expect, he's actually a careful driver who obeys speed limits and red lights. He'll drive into town and park - legally - near a row of buildings that don't really look like they have shops in them. You know where the real rich people shops are.]

Let's get in. It's on the 10th floor.

[Derek stares up at the daunting building. Derek's seen this building... from a distance and his older siblings mentioning that he would probably never have enough money to shop in that building. He's going to get a culture shock isn't he?]

H-here? This building?

[Derek stars walking towards the building.]

You know what mate? The more I hang out with you, the more I'm going to think I'm way more rich than I actually am and I'm going to start thinking I'm Draco, who is actually probably as rich as you.

Is that a problem?

[Kenta knows, in a vaguely distant way, that both he and Jirou are a bit unusual it hat they have mostly embraced their other selves. Some people have more trouble with it.

He leads the way to the elevator and up into the shop. Which is of course empty, but he doesn't let that stop him and starts looking through the racks instead.]

I think grey would look good on you. Or navy blue. If we choose grey, it mustn't be too light or you'll look too washed out with your complexion. But a medium grey would work.

I prefer medium or dark grays myself.

[Derek starts looking through the suits.]

I don't know if I'd call it a problem if I start feeling more like Draco at moments like these... but... he's complicated to say the least.

[Kenta pulls one suit out and holds it next to Derek's face.]

This one 's good. The grey is not too dark and it doesn't have blue undertones. A blue undertone will make you look too pale, with need a grey with red undertones for you.

He said what? That his other self is complicated?

[Derek looks at the suit.]

It's OK is suppose. I'm more partial to darker colors but, if it matches with the theme of your wedding I'll wear it. Should I try it on?

Yes, and that he was trying to understand his motivations but he was having a hard time.

We can go a few shades darker still, but let's try this one first and see if the cut fits you or if we'd rather go for something else.

[Derek takes the suit from Kenta and goes to find a dressing room.]

[He finally finds the right room and changes into the suit. Coming out he presents him self to Kenta.]
