WHO: James, Gar, and Kasen
WHERE: Under the Tisse Towers
WHEN: June 14th
WHAT: quest quest quest quest!!
WARNINGS: violence, probably
[ “Call it special ops,” he said. James is pretty sure Zee pulled that right out of his memory-file and is laughing in his office while he sends him out on this.
When he arrives at the Towers for the mission, though, he’s fully decked out. Black clothes, the strong prosthetic arm fitted over the top of his shirt, and, yes, even a loaded pistol. He doesn’t like having it when he has so little trust in himself, but he also figures he needs all the help he can get on this mission—especially when he has no powers of his own. Who knows what might be coming at them.
By the time the cheetah leaves them, James’s eyes are starting to get used to the dark just a little. Not that the new text from Zee is helping with that. Once he reads it, he looks up at the ceiling(?) of where they’re all standing. ]
We’re still under the Towers? Figures there’d be some weird stuff down here. [ He sighs. ] Should’ve mapped a path when that cheetah was leading us.
[ He looks down the dimly lit path ahead. ] Guess it’s time to start heading down there, then.

Look. He's an artists.
Still, he had his sword, his better-than-human-senses. And whoever this... green person was. He still wasn't sure about that.-
no subject
Anyone else feel super weird while we were coming down? Like we were... pushing through something.
[He's at least had the sense to bring a flashlight, which he clicks on now while grasping it with a super cool underhand grip that he saw in a cop show. He flashes it back and forth.]
Looks like we've got some options. I pick first!
[With that, he confidently marches into a tunnel.]
no subject
[ James hisses and bolts after Gar, lurching forward to try and smack the flashlight out of his hand. ]
Didn't you read what Zee texted us? He said it's heavily guarded.
[ And just in case it's not obvious, he adds: ]
You know, as in, guards who'll be able to see us lighting up the path from half a mile away?
no subject
He's right. We can't let anything give our position away. We must make ourselves as undetectable as possible. No sight, no sound, nothing. We should try to communicate non-verbally, as well.
no subject
[Gar answers without any hesitation.]
............Wait, you want to just, like... not fight them? For reals? What kind of hero team just ignores the enemy?
Beating people up is, like, the whole point of my powers.
no subject
[ But he thinks back to some of Bucky's old missions. Auschenberg, the Nazi outpost in Paris, protecting Zhang Chin...even some of the other guy's assassination missions, loathe as he is to think about them at all. They all relied on sneaking past the enemy, and all went wrong the second he was found out and had to start fighting. He sighs. ]
Although...it's not a bad idea. The less we have to fight, the less we have to risk. We should avoid them.
Or at least take them out quietly enough none of the rest of them notice.
[ Then they don't have to worry about those guards on their way back out. ]
no subject
Let's move out. Remember, non-verbal communication.
no subject
[Gar grouses as he clicks off the flashlight.]
Fine, but if I don't get to punch anything today, I'm totally not counting this as my first superhero mission. It's just gonna be like. A normal hero mission. Which is 50% lamer.
[With that, he mutters under his breath in dissatisfaction and stomps forward, shrinking down into nothingness as he does so. A tiny green bottlefly buzzes gently and flits down the hallway ahead.]
no subject
In the meantime though, James follows down the hallway, footsteps silent, leading with his left side just in case anything comes at them. When the corridor makes a hard 90 degree turn, he comes to a stop and holds out his arm as a signal to Kasen. He stands up against the wall and tries, achingly slowly and breathlessly, to peer around the corner and see what might be waiting for them there. ]
no subject
If his sword were longer, heavier, he'd be less worried. But anti-cavalry tactics were not Kasen's specialty. He signaled to James his concerns as best he could. They needed to sneak past.-
no subject
He pulls out his phone and waits until he sees cautious eyes peering around a corner.]
run when it turns around
[Then he kicks a pile of debris and it clatters to the floor, echoing loudly in the silence of the tunnels. Alarmed, the sentry whirls towards the settling dust, its odd steed furiously growling. But there is nothing to be seen.]
no subject
He doesn't get a chance to think, he just darts around the corner and gestures for Kasen to follow, in case he didn't get a chance to see the text. James sprints, silently as he can, along the corridor path behind the sentry. He manages to make it to the next corner safely, but not before he gets a good glimpse of the guard. Damn, that is some heavy duty, heavy coverage armor.
He doesn't breathe until he makes it around the corner safely. He checks beside him and the stretch of hallway he just ran through to see if Kasen made it. He expects Gar is some bug right now still and doesn't even bother looking for him. ]
no subject
So that kid at least had some sense... He'd have to re-evaluate him later.-
no subject
still say it would be cooler to take em out
pow kapow!!!!!!
next corners clear
one after that has got a guy on foot in a narrow hall
dunno how we’re getting around that
[If the other two hesitate long enough, a quiet buzzing will announce Gar’s return as he settles back down between them.]
no subject
James nods and texts back. If the coast is clear, no harm in having a little phone screen glow, right? ]
another distraction?
if gar can turn into a bat and just attack his face long enough
we can sneak past
and then gar can leave him behind and rejoin us again
[ Not much more different than the last attempt, anyway. ]
then if that fails we can take him out
quietly
no subject
-Full punctuation and capitalization. Alright. Regardless, Kasen seemed to be serious about his offer.-
no subject
i like kasens idea
wow weird my bat powers are suddenly like malfunctioning guess we gotta fight
[Gar turns back to a person for the sole purpose of texting even though they’re standing right next to each other now.]
no subject
okay and then what
we leave behind a body for the other guards to find
then they'll know there's intruders and we lose the element of surprise
[ James is never one to shy away from a fight, but...he really doesn't want to have to abandon the mission before they can do whatever Zee laid out for them because they're busy getting chased down by a horde of guards and armored monsters. And he's pretty sure that's exactly what would happen--he remembers a mission (literally) going up in flames because he tried to pull this exact thing. ]
no subject
-Kasen kept frustration out of his tone and body language, for the moment, but it was a bit of a road block. Neither plan was very ideal.-
no subject
making bodies disappear???
i could turn into a crocodile and eat it
..........nope wait no not doing that
[gar pauses for a moment]
we can just like hide it somewhere
maybe
no subject
i don't see any hiding spots around here
[ He's about to continue his angry texting diatribe but he thinks he hears footsteps and stops, breathless, to listen.
Sure enough, there's a quiet thmp-ing sound. James dares to peek, just the tiniest bit, to see what's going on. The guard for the next stretch of hallway appears to be making his rounds, getting closer to them. Thankfully, though, he doesn't seem to have noticed James yet. ]
okay times up guard is coming for us right now
no time to argue
[ time to THINK FAST ]
no subject
no subject
[says gar, out loud]
I’m not eating that. ...Also totally blaming Kasen if this goes wrong.
[but as he speaks, the guards body is beginning to... glow? and... is it... emitting light in a particular direction...? gar carefully sidesteps around the body and looks down the hall, where the glow has spread to direct them to turn right down a branching passage.]
uhhhhhhhh
no subject
James extremely did not want this. ]
...think we should follow it?
[ He's a little too stunned right now to remember to text--plus the only guy around who could hear them is kind of dead now anyway. ]
no subject
It's our only clue so far. We may as well.
