Hmm...how am I supposed to do this without ruining your Evoker?

[It's a question asked to the air. You might find Minako walking her silver Shiba Inu on the streets, looking at some Bluetooth devices on her phone's browser-- or maybe she's in the electronics store, browsing the shelves. Either way, Koromaru is patiently walking beside her, making sure his Leader doesn't trip or bang her head on something as she muses to herself.]

Maybe I should just experiment. If I break your collar beyond repair, thanks to Retrospec it'll come back brand new...probably.

[Koromaru gives an agreeing bark.]

Okay, let's do that then. [And noticing someone near her, she waves them down.] Hey there! Question for you! What brand would you recommend for a Bluetooth device?

[Or maybe you see a text message from her.]

if I wanted to give my puppy a phone in his collar, how would I go about doing that?

[With almost all of the orphanage gone, it feels a little...unsettling? To bring toys and other things in for the kids, when nobody is going to be here to receive them. She doesn't come by the orphanage often, but she does see the kids occasionally during city events, so it's disappointing that she can't say hello, either.

But they're doing good work, even if it's invisible work, and that's basically her job description at ReVA. She hefts up the box of things she brought to the orphanage, and glances at her partner for the day with a smile.]

So what did you bring for the kids today?

[For someone who grew up in this building, it's downright creepy. Forget unsettling, Tatsuo feels like a skeleton it lurking around each corner, just waiting to jump out at him. A little girl's voice skips its way down the hall, sending a shiver down Tatsuo's spine.

He jumps a little when Minako speaks to him.]

Huh? Oh. Books for the older kids. Crayons and construction paper for the younger ones.

[Disembodied voices aren't anything new for Minako, thanks to nightmares she's had of her past life, so she doesn't react beyond turning her head towards the sound for a brief moment.

Still unsettling, though. Which is why she tries to keep her voice light and positive.]

Nice! Arts and crafts are always great.

[She reaches into her box and pulls out a Jack Frost doll. One of at least a dozen.]

I brought these. I don't know if they'll like the character, but at least some of the younger kids might like him.

Yeah, anything to help them feel creative and get the imaginative juices flowing.

[Tatsuo looks the little doll over, a confused expression on his face.]

What are they? The mascot for some new children's show?

[Kids these days...]

Well...they're definitely a mascot, but you won't find him on any children's show. At least, none in this world.

[She tucks the doll back into the box.]

He's a-- well, let's just say he's a famous little guy back in the past Minako's world, and that Retrospec decided I needed 150 of them one month. I've been trying to give them away bit by bit ever since.

A hundred and fifty? That is quite a few.

[Who would have 150 copies of the same plush toy?]

They kids will find some way to have fun with them. Probably by tying them together with clothesline and making a garland with them.

[because that's what he would have done with twenty identical plush toys when he was ten]

You're telling me...I had to move them into a separate storage unit.

[Minimizing the Velvet Room with all its otherworldly powers to a 'storage unit' would probably piss someone off, but it's true.]

Aw, I hope they take good care of them, though. No ripped arms or legs, ideally. Jack Frost would be very upset with them!

It will depend on the individual kids. Some are very protective of their toys. But there are always those one or two kids that like ripping the heads off dolls, especially when it's not even their doll.

[Tatsuo reaches over to poke one of the toys]

Or maybe they'll use them to creep out the staff. Like Elf on a Shelf. Except Jack Frost on the Shelf.

Elf on a Shelf?

[Minako tilts her head, blinking in his direction as she turns down a hallway. Hopefully it's the correct one?]

Sounds like a prank that I wanna know for the future.

Oh, wait, Matron's office is over this way. Unless they changed it on me.

[Tatsuo points down a different hallway]

Okay. So Elf on a Shelf is this rather innocuous looking Christmas elf doll. It comes with a book that tells how the elf works for Santa and watches the children so he can report back to Santa whether they've been bad or good. You're supposed to read the book to your child, then display the doll in your house, changing the position ever night for maximum effect. It's psychological blackmail in the form of a toy. My brother's family had one, but they'd do all kinds of weird little scenes with the elf doll. Like, stick it upside down in the cereal box. Or leaning against a half-drunk mug of coffee.

[She turns to the right hallway, eyebrows arching.]

That's really evil. And I wanna try it. But somehow I don't think it'll work as easily on my coworkers, hm...

[Tatsuo chuckles]

They're not the sort to be creeped out by an elf watching their every move for a month, huh?

[granted, most adults aren't]

Second door... on the left. If I'm remembering correctly.

More like they're smart enough to get rid of a creepy elf if it ever showed up on their shelves. I've pranked them enough that they'd get suspicious of something like that.

[She laughs and heads into the door he points out. Minako isn't expecting anyone to be there, but she turns her head to where she hears voices anyways, wondering if she could see the people there if she tried hard enough.]

I wonder if they'll notice these things showing up suddenly or not.

Ah, oversaturation. That does make it more challenging.

[Tatsuo sets his box of books and supplies on the large desk on one side of the room]

Maybe they'll noticing once Retrospec is able to fix the layers, or whatever it is that needs to be done to fix this immediate mess.

With any luck, that will be sooner rather than later.

[She sets her box next to his, pulling a few of the Jack Frost dolls up to prop them against the side of it. From her purse she rips out a page of a notebook, and scrawls out a message.

"Thank you for being my new friends, hee ho!"

It gets tucked between the arms of one doll, and then Minako stands back to nod in satisfaction.]

Perfect.

Hopefully we'll be able to tell if this soul energy stuff has any affect on things. But when has anything Retrospec related not been weird and vague?

[Tatsuo chuckles at the note]

That's a nice touch.
