Guess whose birthday it is?

WHERE: Jirou and Kenta's place, then one of the Shinto shrines in Recolle, and out an about in town

WHAT: It's Jirou's birthday.

[It's Jirou's birthday and yet... if you know Jirou, you know he has giant parties at the drop of a hat for any reason, but apparently, not today. In fact, unless you already are his friends and know it's his birthday, you might be excused for not knowing, as they were no invitations, no proclamations, no excited social media post related to this. Weird, right?

During the day, you might meet Kenta and Jirou out and about.]

A. Shinto shrine

[Maybe you were just dropping by on a whim, to pray for exams or just to get a girlfriend/boyfriend for the summer. Or you came here for a specific reason. But once you're there, they will be hard to miss. Kenta and Jirou look like models on a normal day, but today Jirou is wearing a long-sleeved woman's furisode and his hair and make-up have been done to perfection. Kenta has opted for a not quite formal suit, but with a tie, in colors complimenting the kimono's.

They go for the offering box, clapping their hands, and then to buy some of those heart-shaped votive prayers that you write on and leave hanging.]

B. Out and about

[They go to a fancy restaurant for lunch, then for a few drinks in the park afterwards, and a bit of shopping on the way home. What better way to spend Jirou's birthday than doing all the things he loves. And who knows, they might run into you as they do.]

C. Jirou and Kenta's apartment [Close CR only]

[If you're a close friend, then you know where Kenta and Jirou live and you probably know when Jirou's birthday is. Feel free to drop by during the day to wish him a happy birthday and give him your present!]

[Kenta has made sure he would have today off so they don't have to wake up early.

When he wakes up, he's holding Jirou, arms around his waist and face all but buried in Jirou's hair, and he goes to give a kiss to the back of his neck.]

Wake up, sleepyhead.

[Of course he's still trying to sleep in late because that's just what he does. It's even better when Kenta sleeps late with him too so he's perfectly relaxed with his hair just all over and wrapped up in those strong arms.

Which means when those wonderful words come he makes a little noise and just attempts to cuddle back against his fiance some more instead.

[On most days Kenta would be happy to let Jirou sleep, but today he has plans.

So he starts nibbling on the back of Jirou's neck to nudge him awake.]

Jirou... wake up.

[He lets out a little mumble at the nibble.]

No faaaaaair...

What's not fair? I need to you to wake up so I can be the first one to wish you a happy birthday.

[That's boyfriend's privilege, after all.]

[Derek didn't actually know it was Jirou's birthday today. Nope, to Derek, today was "moving day." However, he did want to "pay his rent" on time, so sometime during the day he walks down the hall to Jirou and Kenta's apartment. In his arms in a very nice bottle of scotch and a bottle of Fire whiskey that he bought from The Three Broomsticks.

Pushing the door bell he waits for the door to open.]

[One of the bodyguards opens the door to inform Derek that Jirou and Kenta are out, but that they should be back soon.]

'Would you like to wait inside?'

Uh... I mean, if it's OK...

[Derek holds the two bottles of booze a bit closer to his body. Will he ever get use to Kenta and Jirou's yakuza body guards?]

[The bodyguard will let Derek in and offer something to drink, and then pretty much leave him to his own devices since he was give instructions that Derek is trustworthy and they don't have to hound him.

Kenta and Jirou will be making it back about 30 minutes later, all dressed up, Jirou in a beautiful long-sleeved kimono and Kenta in a suit.]

Derek! Hi! Are you already done moving in?

[Derek stands up from the couch he was sitting in while waiting.]

Uh, yeah. Sorta. Everything is inside the apartment anyway. I um... brought my rent?

[Derek holds out the two bottles of alcohol.]

[that moment when you're running errands that include Praying For Good Luck Because It's Needed™ and picking up birthday gifts and you run into the person you're last-minute shopping for...

BUT HE'S GOT THIS. No one will ever know as he craftily rearranges his bags so the outermost ones are also the most inconspicuous. Then, leaning away from the row of omamori he'd been scoping out:]

Wow! You two seriously look ready for a red carpet event.

Kashuu. Hi. I didn't expect to meet you there.

[For some reason, shrines are not something Kenta ever associated with Kashuu. Rindou, yes. He gives off that vibe. But Kashuu, Yamato and Kasen? They really, really don't.]

[sakeplz]

[Jirou has just taken a sip of sake when he hears Kashuu's voice. Looking over, he smiles at him.]

Hi Kashy! Oh! Were you out shopping? What did you get?

[Guess who is being nosy, Kashuu?]

[sharplydressed]

Ah, just this.

[Jirou's nosiness will only be obliged so far...! He reaches into the topmost bag where his charm is.]

A little extra luck, y'know? I wasn't really planning on coming here today either, but it was on my route, I guess.

[And then, nodding to both Kenta and Jirou in turn:]

What about you guys?

It's Jirou's birthday. We started coming here on his birthday six years ago, and it's a sort of little tradition now.

[At first it was a sort of 'year of majority' thing when Jirou turned 20, but then they did it again the next year and the rest is history.]

Plus with the wedding coming up, we figured we could put up a little prayer over there.

[matchbreaker]

[ Hers has to come in the middle of the night, so honestly, she's not making a show out of knocking or anything so much as silently getting to the door as best she's able (benefits of incredibly soft vampire footsteps) and assuming she didn't make any problems for guards here leaving a little package there.

A nice card from her (obviously) and ... Well, the guy at the store said this was a good sword polishing and repair kit. She figured she might as well lean into it, right? Though the card does promise she has a wine cellar with things he can have too. ]

[There was a bit of... not outright panic but still reasonable suspicion regarding the package in the morning, at least until Kenta saw the name of who sent it.]

Jirou! Something for you from Elda!

[Jirou floats on over and sees the package.]

Present!

[No hesitation or care for himself as he just rips it open to look inside.]

Oooooooh! Look at what Elly got me!

That's going to be useful. You should call her to say thank you.

[Unless she's sleeping. Do vampires sleep? he's pretty sure Fai sleeps.]

[ on his way to the shrine this afternoon, he's brought a small bouquet of hydrangeas with him. his original plan was to bring potted hydrangeas with him, to plant them around the gardens — but certain things have to be compromised on when you don't get along with dirt...

either way, rindou runs into them at the shrine entrance, lifting a hand to wave in their direction. ]

Hey, hey! Nice outfits.

Rindou! Hi.

[Now that is someone that feels strangely a lot less out of place here than Kashuu, for some reason.]

Is that for an offering?

[Seeing his friend, he walks over with Kenta to go greet Rindou, smiling as he waves.]

Hiiiii. Those are so pretty!

[ kashuu is too Modern™ for shrines, even historically... ]

Thanks! I made sure that I picked out the prettiest ones.

[ — which wasn't too difficult, given how well he knows his way around flowers. ]

Kind of. Remember how I told you that I once lived at a shrine? It was well-known for these flowers, so I thought it'd be nice if I brought some.

[Fai would be only too happy to take Jirou out for a birthday bash, but he can't begrudge him wanting to spend the day with Kenta. He'll just have to take a raincheck on the drunken birthday karaoke ;)

Instead he stops by around midday to drop off a care package containing a pair of hair sticks shaped like swords, the prettiest bottle of plum wine he could find, and a pan of baked manju buns he experimented with (and they came out pretty great if he does say so himself!).]

[Of course Jirou will be spending the day with you soon enough, Fai. But until then he sends you a text with about a million hearts and excited face emojis.
