[Semi-Closed/Open] - Backdated to May 6th
WHO: John Egbert + anyone who volunteered to meet with him 5/6 for the coalition/open
WHERE: Around Recollé, and also John's house (please see the prompts for information)
WHEN: backdated May 6th
WHAT: It was supposed to be the first coalition meeting, but now it's actually just organizing the repainting and the first meeting of the volunteer coalition/crisis response team
WARNINGS: Nah.
[First and foremost, anyone browsing the network today will find a message:]
hey. so remember how i said we would do a meeting and stuff for the crisis response coalition thing on the 6th? that is still a thing, but i think instead of a meeting-meeting we have our first "crisis" to work on.
if you are interested in helping out and figuring out how to make things a little easier, send me a message and i will send you a map.
it looks big and scary and empty right now, but if we start taking the first steps to fix it it will be easier on everyone else.
[As such, should you take action to contact John, he'll send along a map of the city broken up into grids…]
The Grid
[Anyone who replies to John will be sent a map of the city that he's generated from his phone broken down into sections. The main sections seem to be: a neighborhood in Viea Village, the Recollé University college campus, Hollingberry field, City Hall, the police and fire stations, the hospital, Freshens and the Towers. With these 9 regions, John will be assign an area for you to cover.
At each drop sight there appears to be haphazardly painted buckets, water balloons, rolling brushes and other equipment that can be used to recolor the world. It seems as though John's gone around and just left these items out in the middle of nowhere next to numbered signs he's painted (1, 2, 3, etc) for Retrospec users to use. Along with the assignment is another text from John.]
i will admit i am definitely just randomly assigning people to areas for right now to get the place back and running, but hopefully this works out! introduce yourself to people if you don't know them, work with them if you do, text me if you have issues.
[Yeah. Looks like everybody was just RNG'd into helping.]
The Sky
[Meanwhile, in between dipping in and checking out his grid and the people in it, John's busy…flying. It looks a little weird but he's actually wearing a bright blue set of pjs as he floats through the white blank sky. A blue paintbrush is in his hand and he'll lazily start painting the area, occasionally drawing things for his own amusement.
That's why whenever anyone looks up at any given time, they might see a ghost. It's stupid. This is stupid. But he'll grin down at whoever and wave.]
It gives us something to go off of, doesn't it? What else should we paint up here?
The Meeting
[Eventually though toward the mid-afternoon, another text will go out to anyone who responded to John initially.]
so hey ok now that the basics are covered i think the sidewalk leading up to my house is back? meeting starts in an hour.
[An address and a map are forwarded and once you follow them you'll find yourself at a mostly-painted house. This house seems to have the most important parts painted (living room, kitchen, one bedroom, a bathroom) and John can be found greeting people at the door. He'll wave everyone in, gesturing to the repainted (and still edible) snacks which seem to be apple juice boxes and chips.
Once the hour warning is up, John will shut the door and face everyone, waving before holding up several sheets of paper. As he's talking, he'll hand out papers with notes for everyone.]
So congratulations, we got past the first part. Now let's talk about everything else. I've written up a list of everybody's skills and what they can do based on what you've told me, but let's talk about how those skills applied to what just happened out there. Or…anything else you have to share, I mean. Updates? That sort of thing.
Who wants to start?
[ooc: hello! Please feel free to utilize this as a mingle log for both the meeting in prompt 3 and for prompts 1&2! For prompts 1&2 if you would like to have IC incentive for your character, John would 100% RNG people and assign them to locations 1-9 so they may end up somewhere they wouldn't expect and working with people they don't expect. [ When he'd first stepped out the door, the whiteness was overwhelming, but without the buildings and the rest of the city in the way, he could see every single person out in the open, and he took comfort in it. Up here, there's nothing. There's only white everywhere Minato can see when he circles the sky, sitting on the back of a grey blue dragon and waiting until they're high enough he can no longer hear people's shouts— surprise, fear, anger... to normal citizens, he can't blame them for seeing Seiryuu as a monster.
To be honest, he wishes they'd done the meeting first instead of jumping straight into it; Minato's only request in a partner is somebody not scared of heights, intent on working from the skies over their assigned section. ]
Here... Fill this up halfway with your color.
[ He hands over an empty spray bottle, a second on in his possession that he partially fills with blue, for them to swap bottle and mix colors after. ]
sky.john
[ It's a sad day when Minato's stolen enough of John's clothes, he has no choice but to resort to wearing pajamas outside. Minato's still riding Seiryuu at this point, careful not to dismiss the Persona or else he'll have to re-summon, and he really doesn't want to until enough buildings are painted so he has somewhere to hide and do that.
Blue and blue don't make for very interesting color combinations, but here he is bending the brush back, and letting his blue splatter on the sky when he lets go. ]
There's so much white space... I feel like vandalizing it.
[ "Minato was here" or "God is dead" or whatever. ]
skyyy
You mean like being an official sky writer? [There's a smirk.] What would you put? The whole city would see it so it has to be something good.

Uhh, this isn't really gonna work, is it? One sec.
[He screws up his eyes and -- pop, a set of dragonfly wings emerge from his back as his arms return to normal.]
Aw man this takes so much more work. OK, let's do this quick 'cause I'm gonna fall outta the sky soon.

OTA
[ Well he sure didn't expect to be put to work the very first day of the coalition, but Elliot wasn't going to make a fuss about it. He agreed to his assignment location, which luckily wasn't far from his house, and headed out.
The first thing someone might notice about his appearance is that he's wearing a raincoat and rainboots - which is pretty weird considering there's no sky to rain from anymore! Still, despite the quirky attire, he seems friendly enough to anyone who gets assigned to work with him. If it's someone he doesn't know, he'll smile at them and hold out his hand to shake:]
Hi, I'm Elliot. Nice to meet you!
[While people he does know will get a much more personalized greeting. He'll work hard to complete the task too! He'll help paint using his blue paintbrush if you need something completed.
However, eventually he'll get tired of how long painting is taking, and start using his magic to try to speed things up. Specifically: conjuring up a pillar of water that he sticks his paint into, turning it into a mass of watercolor paint. Once there's enough paint? He lets the wave go free, shooting forward and splashing everything in its path with watercolor paint.
Well. That explains the raingear. ]
THE MEETING
[Elliot's been to John's house before, so he'll make it to the meeting without much trouble. He sits on the couch, sipping on a juice box. He doesn't speak a whole lot, instead he's more keen on observing everyone else and what they have to say. But he'll still be willing to talk if someone speaks to him, or has any questions about his powers mentioned on the sheet.]

Did you ever figure out the link thing we were talking about? [A playful nudge.] You promised we would test it.

Togusa has to beg John's pardon for bringing along his dog, but he leaves the pup outside. His only explanation is, "If you knew what we went through to find him..."
He remains silent for a while after looking over the list, but he is going to have to apologize later to the looks he keeps giving Elda, in particular. He had no idea some people in the city were growing in power this much.
"I guess the question of ability is more complicated than what was asked earlier." He shifts uncomfortably. "A few of you already know, and I would ask that the rest of you remain quiet on this matter."
"My brain is augmented with a series of micro-machines, the kind similar to those currently used in Recolle's hospitals for internal surgeries, but, they're here to assist my brain functioning. I have a literal videographic memory, once I download the output." He huffs a sigh out. "It's been- useful, with this incident, to be able to show people what an area looked like before we begin to repaint it." Useful in other ways, too, but Togusa is going to need prompting before he shares more.

...does that mean you're like...part-cyborg, technically? [Sorry Togusa. It's not even meant to be insulting, he's just genuinely curious.]

"How much information processing capability do you have? Given a number of different parameters to work with, could you design safe flight paths through the infrastructure for airborne volunteers? Maybe even optimize for efficiency based on integrating information about individual capabilities?"
Even if he could only do a fraction of that, he could revolutionize the entire Coalition painting strategy.
"How are you able to 'show people' the videographic data? Computer screens, three-dimensional rendering midair, psychic projection?"

Is it that she's also visibly lost even more weight so that she lost muscle mass and generously weighs 90 pounds now? Is it that she's got on a wide brim sunhat again despite the indoors? Is it the fact that her face is flushed when they make eye contact?
She's not sure what it is, but she can sense she's getting looks, so the petite woman will step on over to ask about that before any of the cyberbrain nonsense.

"I've designed a few specialized paint spreader attachments and I brought my prototypes for anybody who wants one. Some are designed for maximum distance, others for a wide spray arc, there are a bunch of different approaches. They all have functions that enhance the paint generation speed and volume.
"I'd like to know what works well and what doesn't. I've also worked out blueprints for attachments that can be used on bicycles or motor vehicles. I've sketched out a few other designs that might be especially useful for anyone who can fly, or has super strength, or speed." Cloud looks around at the assembly and shrugs. He really doesn't know who can do what, here.
"The physical properties of the paint and the brushes make it possible to take advantage of a lot of unusual abilities for more efficient distribution. I'd be happy to make custom mechanisms for anyone who wants them. I've got access to parts and a workshop, the turn-around time should be two days at most for anything really complex... So yeah. Let me know?"

[ to anyone paired up with eren, you might get some aerial aid in painting the desired location (just pick a place, any place!!!). he’ll take your colors sky high to some previously unreachable places with his maneuver gear— surprise, mixing compressed air with paint to make a sick stream of air painting, from dancing around buildings to doing some fucking triple pirouettes in the sky. near invisible wires shine like strands of hair as they snap back to him and shoot off elsewhere.
he returns to the ground from his “flight” after needing to refill his tanks, both with air and with paint that he’s prepared extra tanks for. he’ll ask for more of your paint with an exhilarated look in his eyes, or, if he’s feeling generous— ]
Want to come?
THE SKY (for my homie john)
[ you know what else is good
giant fingerpainting
eren’s (now titan) hands are completely caked with paint and in need of painting. to john’s little ghost sketch, eren gives a rumbling sort of chuckle from his chest and reaches over to— smudge his lime paint all over his blue ghost in the form of blotchy wings to make a beautiful mix of yellow!! thank you for your sacrifice, blue ghost. this is his turf now. eren raises his shoulders and makes a face that, well!
you get where he’s going, buddy. ]
THE MEETING
[ alternatively, eren’s sitting around and mostly listening to the people he hasn’t met before, keeping a keener eye on the younger ones. if you sit by him, he’ll duck his head in greeting; he’s not too intimidating to approach, but he does look serious with his big contraption on him as he sits. you also might’ve heard that he’s the titan guy. ]

Grid.
[ Andrew has been at it since the first day, so he's both gotten pretty used to it and is getting tired, because what is rest when people need things to function, but he's definitely there. He's in the hospital area, and if anyone needs any direction, he'll direct them both to the roads leading to the hospital or, if they're up for more delicate work, to recovering things like contents of medicine cabinets and surgery implements and facilities. The city is certainly big enough that chances of emergencies are always high.
He's busy, but not too busy to give an easy wave at anyone looking like they might be having a problem, and a calm question, ]
Hey. You doing all right?
Meeting.
Hi, Andrew Hughes here.
[ Because he's only talked with most people over text, and even there are pictures... well. Anyway. ]
I think the locations you picked for the grid were good, though I'd like to know what else of the vital infrastructure needs work. Water supply and drainage, food supply and waste. Medications. The hospital is in a much better shape, at least, but supplying it will probably become an issue sooner rather than later.

Oh, Kilroy! Do a Kilroy.

It doesn't have to be an even split, right? Maybe a purpley-red-but-mostly-red cross would work.

OK, so, like.
Hear me out.
What if we didn't bring the school back and just kind of left it like this forever, you know hypothetically and then school is canceled forever and all the kids rejoice. That sounds pretty heroic to me.
[the meeting]
[Gar is cognizant of his last conversation with John as he slowly meanders his way towards the house. He regrets mentioning anything at all -- he should have just let things take their natural course. It's not as if he hasn't already been forced to go around in public for months now.
...It's just always super awkward when people see him for the first time in a while.
A brief pause outside the house before he shrugs and enters the door.]
Yo.
[At the meeting, he sits quietly for once in his life until he suddenly remembers something.]

They're probably halfway to the jungle by now though.

[ James raises his hand tentatively--the bulky robotic one. ]
It's easy enough for me to do any heavy duty action with this arm. Anything that requires a lot of holding heavy stuff or constant action, I can do it easy with this. It doesn't exactly get tired. So if anyone has something really heavy on effort or usage, I can do that.
But what I really wanna know is--who else here is military and has access to Fort McCoy? That place is still barely touched with paint and it's impossible to get around. We need more hands on deck over there.

[Eleanor had been assigned to the hospital, which she didn't particularly mind at all, though her painting speed had been reduced a lot once people started freaking out about her levitating the brushes.]
[At the moment she was in the ER, painting over the reception desk, outlining it in black and glancing around at the people going about. When the room seemed clear, she stretched out her hand and four more brushes hopped up to dip into a paint can and start flicking along the walls.]
[Hopefully no one would freak out this time...]
The Sky
[Eleanor was standing on a rooftop, painting the side of the top of the building with her telekinesis and trying not to laugh at John as he flitted through the air painting the sky.]
[Which...really. Was insane.]
How are you doing that? [She finally called up to him when he was close enough to hear.] The sky, I mean. Not the flying.
The Meeting - Open
[Eleanor eventually stepped out from where she'd settled into the corner of the room and offered everyone a slightly nervous smile and a wave.]
Hi, I'm Eleanor Lamb. Ah...useful powers, right. I'm...telekinetic? Not like, flying around in the comic books but, I can lift things with my mind. Up to about a car so.
[Okay this was awkward.]
Essentially if you need heavy things moved or lifted, I can help. Probably. Or paint with a really big brush. Or a few brushes. [She laughed a bit self-consciously.]
Meeting still - Open
[Later she could be found watching everyone, munching on some funny-colored snacks and just listening as other people talk, trying to get a feel for what they could all do and what they all thought about all this.]

See that is the part I cannot figure out. The sky shouldn't be a solid thing to paint, but when I touch it with the brush it sticks! Maybe that's the way their layers are broken down?

I showed up kinda late, so I'll have to add my things later... Anyway! I can see spirits. It's not very useful for repainting the city, but when it comes to monsters or weird spooky stuff, I might be able to help.
Does anyone know the state of the woods right now? [He got assigned to a different part of the city.] It might be a good idea to cover as many acres as we can. I don't want anyone to get lost in there, considering how active the ghosts usually are.
