The Trial of Enji Todoroki [OPEN]
[ Enji Todoroki, a famous retired actor was arrested on charges of domestic abuse. The media went wild and court reporters fight for seats every day of the trial. Photographers and camera man sit out on the courthouse steps or in the hallways if possible in hopes of getting a shot of Mr. Todoroki and his lawyers. The internet is wild with arguments among fans, and as the trial proceeds and days pass it doesn't look like the chaos surrounding the case will cease. ]
A. [ The judge had declared a recess for lunch and after some extra effort and a roundabout route Matt had reached one of the nearby restaurants. He's sitting now alone now and eating in silence, his bag tucked into the small booth seat next to him. At one point he puts his fork down and takes his glasses off so he can run a hand over his face. There are bags under his eyes that one might notice if they get a glance before he puts the shades back on.
It would be easy for someone to slip into the booth across from him if they wanted to... ]
B. [ His closing argument had gone well, he had reminded the jury of the medical evidence and the testimony given by the defendant's son. The defense had offered counter points and again tried to paint their client as a good man one last time before the jury left to vote. With all the press surrounding this case the air feels thick and heavy in the courtroom when the foreman stands to announce the verdict. Everyone there might have been holding their breath.
Guilty. The room erupts in noise that drowns out the full list of charges as they're read and the judge has to bang the gavel. It barely takes a minute for the news to reach out of the courtroom.
Matt takes his time putting his papers away, knowing tv reporters might tackle him for a statement if he steps out immediately. People crowd around the doors and start filing out. Now is as good a time as any to approach ADA Murdock if you were seated in the courtroom. ]
Liar liar plants for hire! [OPEN, WILDCARD]
[ Matt had been able to hear the pulses of everyone around him for months now but in the past week or so he had started to take notice of the sudden change of pace that some people's hearts would take in the middle of what seemed like calm conversation. That was when he realized he was witnessing lies. Some big, some small, some white, some of terrible intent.
Of course now that he had noticed this lies began to stand out like a loud ringing every time that he heard one. ]
[ ooc: If you choose this prompt you can either set the scene involving a lie yourself or tag and request a prompt from me (please specify if your character or an NPC will be lying). ]

Yeah, yeah, I'll be over tonight. Stop complaining, I'll bring him - make sure you pick a really scary movie so that he regrets it, okay? Oh! And get some of those pop up snakes so we can hide it in the popcorn.
[ . . . hm.
Yes, that's Baren. He turns off his phone call and moves to do one full swivel in the chair he's sitting in - but then manages to notice the company close by.]
Oh.
Hey, man. [baren holds out a container of french fries and - ] Want one?
no subject
Oh uh. Thanks...
[ He thinks twice about calling him by name. Does Baren really definitely recognize him? Or is he just being friendly to the guy sitting nearby? ]
no subject
Sure.
Is eavesdropping a hobby of yours?
no subject
It's a little hard to avoid with my level of hearing. I wasn't paying attention to your phone call if that concerned you.
[ He eats the fry and a frown flashes across his face for a split second. Super taste really ruined these. Frozen. The potatoes were frozen at one point in a stinky freezer. ]
no subject
Oohh, right. Supersenses to fight crime.
[there's no cops in here right, baren can say whatever he wants]
Sounds appropriate.

[ Thanks to April Fools the photo looks like a goat. Or unicorn some people insist. ]
Have you seen the moose since February? I hope he's doing alright.
[ Excellent priorities! ]
no subject
[ - which is to answer that yes, yes he did! He grins easily at that.]
Boose? Yeah, yeah, I've been visiting him every now and then. The drive's killer though, you know? Do you have a teleportation skill coming back to you by any chance?
no subject
He can't help a smile hearing about Boose again. ]
Sadly no teleportation that I know of. I think the senses are all I'm going to get unless he got his hands on some wild technology later on. You never know though. Maybe Retrospec will one day dare to be generous with whatever they used to teleport us back and forth on the fifteenth. For now perhaps flying is a better option. I know someone with a broomstick and at least one person who can fly at will.
Have you stopped by any of the other locations where the other mission groups were sent?
no subject
[and boy does he have a lot of curiosity!!]
Flying might be a better option but 8 hours away by car is still a trek and I can't expect anyone's energy to last that long. Guess flying's more ecofriendly though, if that's what you're going for?

[ He checks for his niece. Sounds like she's stuck in line between someone who insists that their order was messed up and it's taking a while to sort out. ]
I don't think I asked you, what do you do for a living? Away from all the moose.
no subject
[ - normally he lets people figure it out on their own, given that he shows up on billboards and magazines but]
You'll just have to take my word that I'm gorgeous.
[stop]
no subject
That would explain the good posture when you walk. I guess I did pick up on a hint of regal mannerisms befitting a model. You sure that's not the real reason the animals like you? This could be some type of Disney-esque effect.
no subject
Dunno if that suits me.
[the cursing probably doesn't help]
