april the 13th. ignore the fact it's the 12th this is forward dated by one whole day.
WHO: john egbert, dave strider, anyone who knows one or both of them is invite! or if you're in viea village and curious about the mysterious new house with a party happening you can probably peek in.
WHERE: viea village, at their shiny new egbertian house.
WHEN: friday april 13th, in the evening!
WHAT: john egbert's 19th birthday combined with a housewarming party.
WARNINGS: there's still some clown art in the house probably, v sorry about that
[ While Dave probably did manage to send out actual invites beyond the e-invite, they were invites made by Dave and therefore included very likely shitty clipart. Still, arriving to the location will take you to a house, laid out like so. There are some changes. Most of the clowns have been removed although they missed a few if you want to be quietly clown-horrified - all of the art that isn't clown-related or in Dad's room isn't there, although there are a variety of photographs hung about that Dave probably took given they're local scenery or of people the two of them know and their cat (and a weirdly disproportionate amount of John, sorry John) so if Dave has ever had a camera in your vicinity and you're good friends you might be on display; Dad's room is unchanged but the door is shut and there's a note on the front in Dave's handwriting asking people to keep out; the study currently has some turntables shoved in there as well as the desk/piano/safe, as well as a phat beat machine.
John's room has the biggest changes overall, since there's a bigger bed in there and slightly better movie posters, including a ghostbusters one in a frame, and also there are some pretty heavy-duty blackout curtains in the room and generally around the house, although all of them are open currently. There's also a cat tower, potentially with a cat, although Mewpac may also be found on the living room cat tower, on various counters, or just generally underfoot as cats are wont to be. Love her.
The main party areas indoors are the living room and the kitchen however! The living room has a birthday banner and a table for presents and also a karaoke machine hooked up to the television. There are a lot of 80s and 90s hits and pretty much whatever Dave thought might be fun, so...you know. Weird stuff also. In the kitchen are snacks (all nut-free) and drinks. There's alcohol if you want or an improbable amount of apple juice even if checking the fridge, although the fridge seems well stocked with a variety of non-apple products if for some reason you want to raid their fridge. There's also a cake in the shape of a piano, very clearly store bought.
The balcony has some bean bag chairs and lawn furniture set up, as well as a telescope. So if you want to get your star-gazing on, apparently you can.
The main outdoors party area is the back yard, where a green pogo ride can be found (sans imps and chaos) if you want to take a ride on it. There is also, way more notably, a bouncy castle that takes up most of the yard and some of the neighbors' yards to either side. You probably saw it when you came in through the front. Dave knows people, and also may have paid off the neighbors for the night so that's...a thing. That is definitely a thing. It most definitely has inflatable slides on the sides as well, so have fun with that.
There's also a much less impressive kiddie pool with balls for some reason? The banner does say happy 19th birthday, right? ]

[John's been wary of this day for a handful of reasons (comes from the world ending multiple times on multiple birthdays if memory serves right), but as the party starts and people enter the house he finds himself relaxing. The front door stays open and he's not worried about the cat running away given Mewpac's accustomed to traveling by now, but every time someone enters the house he gives them a wide grin and waves them in.
Later in the evening he can also be seen with a drink in his hand, but for the early parts he's just kind of…hyper.]
Hey! Thanks for showing up. Can I get you anything? Dave set up a bunch of food and drinks and whatever.
[Please tell him to sit down and relax at his own party, god.]
ii. outside
[Nobody told John about the bouncy castle.
Nobody told John about the bouncy castle so the moment he sees it he laughs in sheer delight and doesn't even think about it before he flies straight into the castle.
Anybody who enters the bouncy castle will find John mostly goofing off, bouncing off the walls and controlling himself mid-flight, turning in little flips and somersaults. Are we sure he's 19, we just don't know…but as soon as he spots anybody nearby he'll bounce right over to them to drag them inside the castle.]
I have no idea where they found a castle this big, but I am kind of tempted to ask if we can keep it. Pretty sweet though, huh?
[He can also be found at varying points trying to figure out why there's a ballpit…but also using the windy thing to juggle at least six of the balls in the air. He's concentrating, watching them fly in his control until one of them suddenly jerks, flying straight out of his grip and right toward you.]
Heads up!
iii. music + entertainment
[Whoever decided the karaoke machine was a good idea was also correct, seeing how he continually gravitates toward it. He's not much of a singer but he's happy to DJ and pick songs for people. For anyone who looks interested (or anyone he just wants to terrorize a little), he'll offer the mic and waggle his eyebrows a bit.]
I think I have the perfect song for you. Do you trust me?
[No.
As the evening goes on and when the karaoke machine seems abandoned, John can be found looking at a bookcase before selecting a movie to pop into the bluray player and start up a movie marathon. Given the day, it's a whole slew of Friday the 13th movies. He's plopped right in the middle of the floor staring up at the screen, leaning back against something and keeping his eyes glued to the action.]
Can you believe they made twelve of these? [Can you believe John rented or owns all twelve?
Finally, for anyone who happens to wander past the study on the way to the kitchen or for anyone who's nosy, they'll hear the sound of a song. It seems to start up and stop, but eventually the speed picks up as he plays all the way through. He should maybe be socializing, but he's happy here, too. The piano is a full-sized version and the keys are well-worn, his fingers fitting over them comfortably as he plays through his newest creation.]
iv. wildcard
[Hit me with other prompts! Given it's John's party, he'll be found pretty much wherever, and thank god he figured out how to break his Magatus curse before the party itself. Their house is spacious and he'll be making rounds through the house including the balcony landing upstairs and the front and backyards. He'll greet pretty much anyone he finds and he's excited and chatty this evening.
Later on, he'll be a lot more relaxed and still casual and happy, but he'll also be toting around some form of an alcoholic drink. Come mingle, say hello, and seriously please stay out of his dad's room. (You can also plot with me on plurk at
I
[Michel's had the world's biggest shit-eating grin for the past...oh probably a few days or so. It wasn't just the bouncy castle, but the gifts he'd been planning to give, which he had been worried would never show up, now had thanks to the floating mail.
The bad side - having to explain to his parents what this was all for.
ANYWAY. He'd arrived with a rented van; perhaps signs that something was wrong, and a pair of sunglasses over his eyes, a sign that something worse was to come.]
Also please relax dude! It's your birthday!
no subject
I'm relaxed! I am definitely relaxed. [...there's a raise of his eyebrows though.] Please tell me the shades indoors trend isn't catching on.

Can you believe they stopped at twelve? They were so close. Thirteen would have been perfect.

Maybe that is our new destiny, Ami. Taking up the mantle and making a thirteenth Friday the Thirteenth. Think you're up for the challenge?

Happy birthday, John. Trade you for the clowns.
[ It's (according to Google, don't quote me) non-toxic to cats ...and people, just in case Souji ever comes over... the plump little leaves fall off pretty easily and are fun to bat around on the floor, and the plant doesn't require much watering or very frequently. ]
no subject
Minato, this is great! [Why he's so excited about a plant he won't say, but he's already hauling it into the kitchen and leading Minato with him.] Thanks a lot. It'll make the house look a lot nicer...a lot of the clowns are thrown out but I stored some in the laundry room for you.
[He definitely took Minato seriously on that one.]

How splendid. You said you could play, but that was better than I imagined, somehow.

Thanks. I've been playing since I was really little so that probably has something to do with it. I've been composing on and off since I was in middle school, too.

Thanks! And yeah, I know, but it is also technically a housewarming party. I can be useful instead of making Dave do everything.

Sorry not sorry Dave.
Anyway, while it was tempting to hang out by the karaoke machine all day, he did have to check out the giant CASTLE out back. Even if he's not very athletic, of course you have to try something just once. So he's taking off his shoes and making sure his ARCUS is still on him (because if anyone broke a bone in a bouncy house, it'd be Elliot) - before crawling in to join John. He'll need a bit to actually acclimate to the bouncy though.]
Haha, yeah! I didn't even know they made them this big!
no subject
But yeah, the bouncy castle is probably his favorite part of the party and so when Elliot winds up out back John bounces over to him and grins widely.]
At this point I am starting to think that just about anything is possible if Dave wants it to come true. But I also haven't been in a bounce house for years so this makes up for a lot of lost time.

the attached birthday card is actually homemade and has a $20 giftcard to john's favorite restaurant so there's that. ]

--well okay, he just starts laughing? Rose what the fuck, somehow this is both a travesty and also 10000% perfect for him especially since he keeps opening the music box and snickering between verses. Nevertheless, it's the card that gets him to stop laughing and he eventually gets himself settled.
And immediately tracks her down if she's not standing right there or he just turns if she is to hug the shit out of her. Thanks Rose.]

HOOOOOOU! GOOD DAY EVERYONE! I'm at a friend's party right now but you guys all have to check this out! Look at this bouncy castle! I'm in the inside but you should see how huge it is. And look at this if you drop yourself to the floor...
[He purposefully lets himself down so he can bounce right back up.]
Haha! This is just as great s a trampoline!
[He turns over to Rose and gives her a wave.]
Hey! You agree with me, right?
ii
There's enough space in here that we could install a climbing shelf, I think. But I am pretty sure she thinks the whole house belongs to her anyway. [Mewpac's only response is to purr and rub against Rose's hand.]

I can sort of see it. Extreme depression is the lack of joy, fear, color... all things a clown represents. Maybe this outward display is supposed to mask what isn't inside.
