WHO: Nanashi and friends
WHERE: Inside the city, going around places
WHEN: 4/7
WHAT: He's dealing with the loss of his humanity and turning undead.
WARNINGS: Mentions of death and dying all over this post. Usual Megaten warnings apply.
1. In the streets
[If you're the type of person who hangs around the streets of Recolle at night, you may find Nanashi all by himself. He mumbles nonsensical phrases and sometimes shouts loudly. It's almost disruptive, but he really doesn't care about that. Nanashi can sense the presence of spirits more strongly than before. Honestly, it's both pissing him off and tripping him out. ]
Would you stop that already? You've been at it for hours.... [Why were there so many things he couldn't see before? Why is retrospec doing this to him? Nanashi shakes his head in disbelief. ]
What is so fun about dancing without a shirt on? Oh my god. I regret everything, I'm sorry I've sinned in my past life.
Now stop haunting me. Take this as an offering.
[Nanashi passes your character two silver coins for good luck!! Are you going to take it or not?]
[For characters who've known Nanashi from before: you'd notice his eyes are green instead of brown like in his icons. ]

2. In the forest
["This gun is fake". It's an excuse he's used many times before. and he's gotten away with owning a pistol so far. Nanashi feels like trying it out in the open. He's right outside the city borders with a demon and a pistol. Surely, nothing will go wrong. Just leave a 15yold with guns. This is fine.
Tin cans are lined up all in a row and he's using them for target practice. He hasn't missed anything yet. They all have noticeable dents and holes in them. Nanashi's reaction times are a bit slow however. It's taking him such a long time reload every shot. His hands feel numb and it's hard for him to move in general. Eventually he puts everything down and tries to rest. Take a breather.
You can either find him:
a. shooting things and reloading bullets in realtime
b. taking it easy chilling with a demonic bird. or
c. wild card me because these aren't terribly interesting. ]
--------
3. Anywhere inside the city
[Nanashi awkwardly stumbles and can't seem to hold his ground. Being undead is exhausting. At this rate he may never pull himself together again. He decides that he'll give up and stop moving for a while. This is the worst!!!
If you're unlucky he'll crash right into you. Surprise.
Otherwise, he can be found taking a nap on a bench somewhere. Let the kid rest....or wake him up rudely. That works too. He did run away from home without warning. Nanashi looks like a disaster. ]

[Inside Jouhei's place: Closed - Jouhei, Shinn. ]
[Nanashi spent most of his day normally. He's staying at Jouhei's place for various reasons. They had dinner and now he was planning on sitting next to the sofa. The next thing he does is open up a history book. It's not like Nanashi knows what he wants to be when he grows up yet. He just entered highschool and adjusting to the new content is hard. He still tries to put effort into learning it though. Getting a good job is important to him and everything.
After sometime he falls asleep on the sofa. School can be draining. He shifts to the side awkwardly.
A few minutes later he rolls over and drops to the floor. Of course this causes him to wake up in surprise. All the energy in his body suddenly disappeared. That's not the weird part. Suddenly his senses seem off somehow.
His body doesn't feel like his own. The world feels like a colder place too. Nanashi can't get off the floor even if he puts all his effort into it.
So instead he screams very loudly. Jouhei would have heard that. He's banking on his cousin to be around. Help? Jouheiiiii.
Nanashi thinks he's going to die for real.
Did he eat something weird for dinner that day? Nope.
Did some thug sucker punch him on the way home from school? Not at all. He's been staying out of fights for the most part.
The fact that all of this is happening is very surreal. Screaming for help is tiring so he may just go fall asleep again.
Jouhei can slap this kid awake or something. ]

It's fine. You don't seem like a bad person. I think I can tell you.
[He's learned that Akira's friendly and approachable over the past few weeks. It wouldn't be bad to tell him. ]
Everyone becomes what they remember, right? I died several times in my memories. So that's what I became. Dead. I'm some type of zombie now...
[That's the simplest explanation he can offer. Humans can only live one life but that wouldn't apply to someone who was a zombie, right? Nanashi really hates what he's become and that's ultimately part of the reason why he's run away from home. ]
no subject
It's odd. He has dealt with two deaths in Recolle so far, then more from his memories. The ones here have come back, but... None like a zombie. ]
Come sit down.
[ What words can he even say that would make his friend feel better? Constantly dying, living again, and dying again—this is actually horrible. ]
no subject
Things have changed a lot since then. It feels kind of strange. Nanashi offers Akira his palm. He can take note of every zombielike feature there is. This kid isn't human anymore. ]
Take a look...
[It's not pretty. He's freezing cold and there isn't any sign of a pulse. This might be a little disturbing. um. ]
no subject
However, he does reach out to touch only to feel that it's very much like a corpse. Cold, coarse— ]
Hey... You know this. [ Being a zombie. ] It doesn't define you, right? It doesn't make you who are you are.
no subject
[Nanashi's voice tenses up. He's unable to hold his head up because he's ashamed of what he's become. Losing your humanity and becoming a zombie....is absolutely ridiculous. ]
But, I'm the son of an illegal weapon dealer. I could think of a few people who want me dead or in the slammer. Sorry you had to find out this way.
[He usually doesn't tell anyone this! It's like admitting to your crimes! ]
no subject
[ Turning towards him, he looks at him with these eyes of determination; Akira believes that wholeheartedly. So what if Nanashi is a zombie now? It might have unsettled him at first, but he can see that nothing about his friend has really changed at all. Of course they only recently met, but... He always had the feeling that Nanashi was a good guy.
With a bad history. It's familiar. ]
And you're more than just the son of a criminal. His crimes aren't yours. You are still your own person. [ Voice steady, he's also sure of this one thing: ] If they want to get to you, they'll have to go through me.
no subject
[It seems like talking with Akira is working wonders. Nanashi feels a little better already.]
I moved to this city so I could get away from that kind of violence. Seems like I made the right choice. You're so nice to me and I don't even know you that well...
[That's what surprises him the most. Not many people are willing to go that far for another person. ]
no subject
[ Akira laughs nervously. How does he always get into these things? He has some clue why he dabbled with the Yakuza in his other life, but it was never his intention. In both lives, he's softhearted. He listens some more, piecing things together. Nanashi and Iwai are kind of similar—which means that they're similar. ]
It's actually nice to hear something that isn't "you're being stubborn and reckless," so I'll take that as a compliment. [ Instead of a weakness. ] I guess I just see some parts of myself in you...
[ Which is partially the truth. ]
But I don't think anyone should be subjected to that, either. It's not right.
no subject
[That would be hypocritical of him. Nanashi gets told that all the time either by his peers or guardians.]
There's lots of shitty things in this world that aren't right...That's not even counting Retrospec.
[The application is another bundle of problems in itself. Nanashi sighs. ]
no subject
[ And if they don't say it outright, it's heavily implied. It's out of worry, wondering why he has to go out of his way like this, why does he stick his neck out, and that they're going to grow hair so white they'll be a 60 by next year. It's good to know he's in company, one that won't go out to fuss over him while committing the same exact sin.
He plops onto his back, enjoying the plush comforts of the bed as he stares at the ceiling. The world is not fair. ]
That doesn't mean we should let the world wrong us over and over again. We have to fight for what's right... Especially for those who can't. [ ... ] Don't give up on having a future and a life of your own, Nanashi.
no subject
[He's lost count of how many times people misunderstand his intentions because of his background. No one can choose their birthplace. He's gotten a little too used to the stigma that comes with being around yakuza. It's a shitty life style overall. ]
They can assume whatever they want. I'm not going to give up on living that easily. You won't have to worry about that. My soul is still alive...even if my body isn't. You helped me realized that.
[It's weird to say it that way, but that's the truth. What would he even do without Akira's help? Wander around the city trying to find purpose? Do something stupid and dangerous? Nanashi's grateful that he's been set straight sooner than later. ]
no subject
[ Even if Nanashi is a cold corpse, it doesn't change who he is. Akira smiles a bit as his friend slowly comes to terms with it. It takes a lot to accept something like that and to even utter. As best as he can, he tries to reach him from his position, but can only add in a reassuring nudge to his back instead of a punch to the arm. ]
You can still stick around here until you feel ready to go home.
[ He still needs a place of solace, after all. ]
no subject
[Nanashi isn't ready to go home yet. There's cops watching the place and yakuza members who would slug him in the head without a warning. He can't relax in that kind of environment. Akira's doing him a huge favor. Thanks buddy. ]
Can I still grow tall and become an adult? Is my blood still red? Do I still need food? Because I haven't felt like eating for a long time.
[ It's abnormal and he acknowledges that much. People get hungry after several hours. He hasn't felt anything like that in a while. ]
no subject
He chooses the easier question out of the three— ]
Want to have a midnight snack? Think of it as a hobby.
no subject
[He won't give up eating if he can help it! Food is tasty. ]
It's a bit too late for a full course meal. What are you going to have?
[Nanashi eyes Akira with a curious look. Maybe Akira's already got something in mind. Let's hear it.]
no subject
[ Akira also loves eating! Trying new things and recipes has been very fun, even better with friends. That's something he realized over the past year. Rolling himself to sit up, he scratches his cheek to remember what's in the fridge. ]
I have some leftover curry we can heat up?
[ Not extravagant, but hearty. ]
no subject
[He's mentally five when it comes to food. The answer is always yes.]
We ate a lot of food at your birthday party. It seems like a long time ago even though it just happened last week. Do you feel any older?
[Time passes by more slowly when you're stressed out. A week feels like an eternity.]
no subject
No, I still feel twelve.
[ It's time to sneak out, so Akira opens the door again so they can leave the room... Only to find some bright blue eyes in the darkness. Watching. Waiting. You locked me out. ]
no subject
[Akira's pretty mature who feels mentally twelve!! How could you lock your friend out! Nanashi lets out a brief sigh.]
You've got more company, Akira. Did you forget that he was waiting outside?
[Most likely? Yes. ]
no subject
He's usually not this clingy... Only recently.
[ The cat will stare at Nanashi, too, before approaching him. He must sniff you properly. ]
no subject
Maybe he's restless because there's a stranger in the house. Should I introduce myself to him?
[He's standing in place until the cat finishes their business. Hello kitty , meet zombie child. ]
no subject
Yeah, sure. He's pretty smart, so I want to say he'll understand you—only in English or Japanese, though.
[ While you do that, Akira is rummaging through their fridge. ]
no subject
[Nanashi's trying to play with the cat a bit. He checks over his shoulder to see what Akira's up to.]
You're right. He's so smart and well behaved.
no subject
They don't.
But it's the thought that counts. ]
Well behaved. [ He says that in a dry tone as he takes the hot curry out, letting the aroma waft throughout the kitchen. ] Were you around when he stole everyone's underwear and socks?
no subject
[His expression turns into a dead pan one.]
Sometimes...I don't understand cats.
[Nanashi is being honest as usual. Sorry Morrigan. He doesn't get you.]
