WHAT: Enough talk about murders and guilt and whatnot. Let's actually murder each other with Mario Kart (and other fun things!)
WARNINGS: Someone's probably going to get strangled with a controller wire

[ naegi's place isn't the... most luxurious looking place. in the dining room, there a really nice oak dining table (it's the most valuable thing that daisuke and naegi own - they'll die for it) and some chairs (there's a random beanbag chair???) and in the living room, there are easels and... yeah, that's about it. the living room is the destinated section of the apartment whenever naegi have to work on some art projects that can't be done in his room and while it's normally messy this time of the year (holy shit final projects and portfolios and personal projects in which he wants to die), he tidied up for the occasion, piling up his canvases and sketchbooks in the corner where no one can trip on them. ]

[ in addition, he's tried to at least make the place look presentable or more welcoming than a nearly empty place! he has gotten snacks! he has moved his crummy but still somewhat decent tv to the living room! he has his insanely old M64 console out to use on the tv! he begged daisuke to please take the crane out somewhere else so it doesn't try to kill everyone while they're over! it's not that bad! ]

[ just don't expect a nice sofa or something to lay down on. naegi and daisuke aren't rich enough for that ]

[ despite that the windows are closed and that the air is still inside the apartment, naegi suddenly feels very cold and a chill runs down his spine. his hands are sweaty and his mouth is dry. he feels the unholy presence of the grim reaper nearby and he suddenly wonders if this is his last day on earth... ]

[ he hesitantly moves the cursor over the track with rainbow road and selects it ]

O... Okay. U-Um, here... here we go!

[ in his nervousness, naegi will fall off the road a bunch of times, losing precious seconds as he quickly goes from first place to second to fifth to last. ishida just might actually win this time! at least... until that terrible sound of a blue shell being used is heard ]

[we've gone far too long without a murder happening in the dangan ronpa cast.

Oh, it's a rainbow road! How colorful! Ishida thinks it's a little too vibrant, but still nice-- WHY ARE THERE NO RAILINGS???]

The hell is this track?! IT'S NO RAINBOW!!

[It's Hell. This road is leading them to hell-- except with a couple of lucky item boxes, he manages to lead in first place! For the first time since playing this game, he's in first and he can see the finish line! He's almost there--

Until he explodes in a blue aura.

And now he's no longer in first. In fact, his rank drops from first to 4th in just a few seconds and Ishida is too busy yelling with flames sparking from his eyes to complete the race.]

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?! I WAS ABOUT TO WIN AND SOMETHING HIT ME!! A BLUE SHELL!! WHO DID THAT?!

[He turns his joyous expression to Makoto and points at the screen.] DID YOU DO THAT, MAKOTO?!

[ this is absolutely hell and naegi immediately regrets everything. he falls into a state where he starts to overanalyze everything, thinking back to his choices and doubting each little thing. maybe he shouldn't have found his m64 or marco kart. perhaps he should have had daisuke stay rather than leave so he could tell daisuke his final words before he dies. if only he didn't use that blue shell and then immediately got a star, causing him to zip up from sixth place to third. ]

[ with the race finished and the game starts to replay back scenes from it, showing the racers go through the finish line and all the devastating shells and banana slips. naegi would normally be happy with watching this replay but he can't even look at the screen. he has his eyes downcasted and sweat drips down the side of his face ]

A... Ahaha... I-- um-- it...

[ he can barely talk and everything comes out in stutters. it's easy to tell that he is indeed the culprit of ishida's loss ]

It... might have been... me? A-Ahaha...

[Due to the state Ishida is in, he finishes dead last. But the rank doesn't even faze him, no, because all he can focus on is the betrayal.

Professor Makoto Naegi, his trusted advisor and friend, blueshelled him. All that hard work and effort, gone in a second. His hopes and dreams shot and blown up, just like his character's cart.

Contrary to his earlier cussing, his voice is now deadly quiet. But somehow, each word sounds threatening.]

"Might." Are you that uncertain, Makoto? [He gives him a bright smile.] We can always watch these replays until we figure out the culprit. It'd just be like solving a mystery, hahaha.

[optimistical]

[ without falling out of his chair, naegi slides in his seat as inconspicuous as possible to put some distance between him and ishida. it's not that he thinks that ishida would punch him or try to choke him with the controller wire. no, of course not! friends don't do that but... you know... he should probably give ishida some space.................... ]

N-No, we don't have to rewatch it! It-- it-- um, it... was me.

[ his voice wavers and fades off near the end to the point that the "me" is nothing more than just a whisper. he has never felt more terrified than now. the nightmare event back in october? nothing compared to this. absolutely nothing ]

I... I'm sorry, Kiyotaka. For costing you the win...

[ he bows his head during the apology, though part of it is an excuse so he doesn't have to look at ishida. looking straight at him will surely... seal his doom ]

[Ishida continues to smile at Naegi.]

Don't you feel better for telling the truth, Makoto? It's only a game, right? Even though you fucked me over with one item, causing all my effort to become meaningless in a matter of seconds, it's only just a video game.

[BRIGHT SMILE.]

[Although he's not telling Makoto how he's planning to murder him later.]

[ naegi truly doesn't know which one is worse... a smile or a blank face... it's truly hard for him to say whether or not he prefers if ishida to yell at him earlier over this fake happy attitude... ]

[ oh my god where does he go from here?? he still can't make proper eye contact with ishida and he looks downwards ]

Ah, um, do... do you want to try another race? We can give it another try or uh, I got others games like, um...

[ he takes this opportunity to dig through the little box of m64 carts and distance himself further from ishida. what other multiplayer games does he have in here? what other games!! he pulls one cart out and shows it to ishida, finally looking at him before looking back downwards ]

Like Marco Party? This one is like a board game and your goal is to get as many stars as possible, even if that means stealing them from others...

[ will ishida like something like that? someone to get REVENGE?? ]

[Naegi will feel the intense stare of Ishida at his back as he digs through his box to find a new game. BETTER FIND ONE SOON... it's probably a matter of life or death.

The stare only lightens up a little when Naegi shows him the new game he's holding. Ah, Marco Party. Looks innocent enough... BUT HE THOUGHT THE SAME OF MARCO KART.]

A game that encourages stealing? Well, it's only a game... so let's try it out!

[Surely nothing bad is going to happen now. Although, Ishida is going to make sure that he targets Naegi at every opportunity. Some revenge is in order.]
