[CLOSED] First Date
WHO: Derek Matthews and Lillain Aust
WHERE: Various Places in Recolle
WHEN: March 16, 2018
WHAT: It's their first date!
WARNINGS: none

Once the clock hits 5:00pm, Derek is out of the lab and in his car heading home to take a shower and get ready for his date with Lillian. He gets home, showers, gels his hair, and changes into presentable date clothing. Once satisfied with his appearence, he grabs his jacket and drives to Sweet Stems and picks up the dozen yellow daffodils he ordered for the day. Bouquet in the front passenger seat Derek pulls out his phone and texts Lillian.
So, I'm on my way. I'll be there in 30 minutes.
Pushing "send" he starts his car and starts driving over in the direction of the university.

She was almost ready when she got the text, texting back a quick 'okay' before she finished sorting out her ridiculous mass of blonde hair...which she was letting hang loose for a change, nearly down to her rear. Honestly she had too much of it to do much with outside of loose or a ponytail, and hey, it was a date, she might as well go wild.
Otherwise she didn't look all that much different from usual. Her outfit (Minus the heels, she was tall enough already) was simple but she thought she looked good, plus a bit of make-up, tadaa. Now she just had to wait.

[It's alright Derek, you got this. Take her ice skating, hot pot, and just have a good time. Yeah...]
[Getting out his his car, he makes his way up to Lillian's apartment and knocks on the door. He holds his breath and holds the bouquet in front of him.]
[Please let this go well!]
no subject
[Lillian was smiling brightly as she tugged the door open maybe thirty seconds later, eyes flicking from him to the flowers and back.]
Oh nice, for me? Thanks. Come on in.
[She stepped back so he could come into the apartment, then moved to find something to put water in for the flowers.]
no subject
Hi! And yes, these are for you.
[Derek enters the apartment and offers them to Lillian.]
You look very nice by the way.
[And she really did. Her outfit looked great and her hair... oh man, Derek has a weakness for girls with long hair and with having her hair down, Lillian looks extra pretty to Derek right now.]
no subject
[She got out a glass and filled it with tap water, then plopped the flowers in before walking back to him.]
You look pretty snazzy yourself, Derek. Lemmie grab a jacket.
[And then she did. And started ushering him out the door.]
So where we goin'?
no subject
Well, I figured we would first head to The Stardust over in Tisse for ice skating. And then, when we've had our fill of falling on our butts, we can head over to a restaurant that serves amazing Chinese hot pot. Have you ever had Chinese hot pot?
no subject
Nope, never had it. What's it like?
[And down the steps and outside they go.]
no subject
Well, you have this pot in the middle of the table with a Sterno stove underneath it fill with broth. You then put in the meet and vegetables and let it cook. Usually the meat first of course.
[By that point of the conversation they have reached his car and Derek quickly excuses him self to open the door for Lillian. He gestures her to get inside.]
Ladies first.
no subject
[Huh. She just looked so amused when he opened the door for her, but managed to not say anything snarky about it, go her. Instead she just climbed in.]
Thanks.
no subject
Yeah, it cooks right in front of you. The owners actually trust their customers to not burn themselves and be responsible chefs.
[Derek closes the door behind Lillian and then walks back round to his side of the car. Once in, he turns on the engine and starts driving in the direction of Tisse.]
Anyway, I found the place not long after I moved to Tisse, and I've just kind of never stopped popping in now and again.
no subject
[She looked at him when she spoke, but otherwise her gaze was out the window, watching the town go by.]
no subject
Are you a klutz?
[Derek chuckles slightly.]
I'll try my best to make sure no harm comes to you, in both ice skating and eating.
[Derek turns onto the on ramp to the freeway and starts giving the car way more gas.]
So, how did you paper turn out? What was it about?
no subject
[She shrugged.]
Oh...fine. It wasn't anythin' exciting, just a paper for international relations.
no subject
'Not grab the'... seriously? Do you not look often then?
[Derek would look over at her, really he would, but he's a responsible driver.]
And international relations can be interesting, just depends on the topic. I think I took one IR class for a GE while I was in school.
no subject
[Lillian did not have the best attention span.]
Sure, I love it. But the paper was borin'. Papers are usually borin'.
no subject
Yes I suppose so papers can be boring. I certainly find my paperwork boring at times.
In response to the cooking and watching T.V. at the same time, sort of? Like, I can have the T.V. going but I only watch when I'm waiting for something to boil, or at a moment when you don't need to be constantly watching it. I can't see the T.V. from my stove, there's a wall in the way. I usually have to take a step or two back from the stove to even see the screen.
[Derek turns on his blinker to signal to merge and carefully get into the correct lane so he can take the exit loop that that he knows is in a mile.]
no subject
Hey, if you can concentrate, you can concentrate! I'm a little jealous, really. [A small smile as she looked over at him.] But I ain't really the type to manage it. I used to get scolded all the time for readin' or drawin' in class back in high school.
[...And college...]
Man, anyway, ice skatin'. This is gonna be great, huh?
[She was getting more excited as they almost arrived.]
no subject
That's the general idea.
[They arrive at the ice rink a few minutes later and enter the rink.]
I'm pretty sure the skate rentals are over here.
[Derek points to the left.]
What's you size?
no subject
Huh? Oh...uh. I'm an eight. Narrow if they got 'em, but it's cool if they don't.
[She turned to look at the ice for a few long seconds before she finally made to follow after him.]
no subject
Here you go, size eight in narrow.
[Derek finds a place on a bench for both of them to sit and start lacing up their skates. He kicks off his shoes and shoves them under the bench, sits, and starts to stick if foot inside the first skate.]
I'm glad I brought you here, you looked excited a moment ago.
no subject
I love skating. I ain't great at it, Angela got all the talent there, but there's a lot to be said for just having fun an' fallin' on my ass a few times.
no subject
Well, let see who is going to fall first.
[Derek makes is way over to the entrance of the rink. With a hand on either side of the opening, Derek uses the walls to push him self off and glide onto the rink. He turns around to Lillian and calls out to her.]
So far so good. [Referring to the fact that he hasn't fallen yet.] You coming?
no subject
Yeah, yeah, hold your horses!
[She said, laughing, as she pushed out onto the rink, sliding towards him...and then clealry not remembering how to stop.]
Uh oh!
[Grabbing at him to keep from falling. Hopefully he was steadier than her.]
no subject
Don't worry I got you.
[Derek digs the sides of his skates into the ice to keep him in place and holds Lillian steady. Derek lets out a chuckle once they are both still.]
Are you really going to fall for me that quickly? The date has barely started.
