him hangin' 'round, around you
WHO: Clover & Terra
WHERE: The woods and the river and the lake.
WHEN: 3/10ish
WHAT: Two people who are probably not evil go hiking.
WARNINGS: EVIL
[There aren't a lot of hiking options in Recolle, so of course they end up at the edge of the woods, Terra's arms crossed and brows furrowed, trying to mentally plan out some sort of path for them. The weather isn't too bad, so he's wearing a light jacket with the sleeves rolled up––though curiously, there's some sort of...metal pauldron? on the side of his shoulder.]
I know we can just take one of the trails but...is that really hiking? It's way more fun to make our own way, our own experience...We can just go until we find the river, and then follow that to the lake, yeah?
Does my plan get the approval of our lovely administrative council? [and he gestures to Clover. you're the lovely council.]

There's a reason trails are created, and that's for safety. [ The lovely council is a buzzkill. I'm sorry. What's fun? ] Is it necessary to out of our way?
[ She peers in the direction of the lake and ends up nodding anyway. ]
But all right. I doubt it'll be that difficult.
no subject
Besides–– [And a wave of his hand.] I'm more than capable of keeping you safe, so no need to worry.
Can't be worse than the last time I came to the forest. [And he'll leave that to her imagination.]
no subject
There could be sinkholes. You never know. [ A possibility is a possibility, but still, she has not know: ] What happened the last time you came to the forest?
no subject
[He laughs because he's rude but also because it's a really endearing quality of hers.]
It was when retrospec turned everyone really small. A mysterious voice was calling out to me and telling me to go into the forest and if I did it would like...solve all my issues? I didn't snap out of it until I fell down the side of a hill on accident and the pain took me out of it. It was kinda like mind control.
[Another laugh, because what is trauma?]
But! That probably won't happen again. I would guess the odds are...about the same as a sinkhole opening up and swallowing us both.
no subject
But does she remember everyone turning very small? No, she doesn't, but she read Elda's guide. ]
I wouldn't be so sure. When I was in Respatrum, people were put under mind control or hypnotized, too. The chances are... higher than you think.
[ It's not a laughing matter, and Clover's pace, which was easily matching Terra's, slows. ]
no subject
Terra slows as well, folding his arms and looking over curiously.]
...Seriously? Jeez, I'm sorry. I didn't realize things got so...intense. [And his hands quickly finds his pockets because now homeboy feels kinda bad.]
Not you though...right? [
aj writes, knowing the answer to this question]no subject
I... may have been a victim.
[ That's as much as she's willing to freely admit. ]
no subject
Sounds pretty busted, that whole trip. [Let's move on from the possibly dramatic mind control, he figures.]
Were you nervous beforehand? When retrospec just picked you at random to go to who knows where?
I woulda been.
no subject
[ She pulls her water bottle out of her bag and takes a drink. ]
I wanted answers more than anything else, so that overrode most of my anxiety. I was... I wouldn't say ready, but I was prepared to think about unfortunate ends.
[ From dramatic mind control to dramatic morbid thoughts. ]
no subject
[Hm.]
Cool as ever. Willing to risk you life to get more answers about your existence...
[For some reason, it's hard to look at her when they're talking about this big, ocassionally morbid ideas. He's just listening to her footsteps, following along while looking up at the sky. Would he do the same? This Terra never really risked his life, did he? Just sort of...fell into situations where he had to protect himself or protect other people.]
Well then? Anything good come out of it?
no subject
We were allowed to take some useful souvenirs home. [ That's serious, but it was also a very poor attempt at a joke because Clover lost the will to make a joke halfway through that sentence. ]
There are old legends that the new locations we found had. As you would guess, some of them were based on truth. Apparently, Pesgare, Respatrum, Bosuma and Magatus were all one land like Pangea. However, there was a powerful weapon strong enough to break the four lands apart and taint the land with darkness, keeping them separated. Someone wanted to recreate that weapon.
[ Clover stops walking and sighs. ]
So it wasn't so much information about our existence here in correlation with Retrospec, but it was information in regards to what's happening in this world.
[ So not really that much good, depending on what you wanted to know. ]
no subject
So you got mind controlled and you got was this crappy t-shirt? [He taps her lightly on the arm. There's that joke you were looking for, though he's not exactly enthusiastic about it.]
I guess that info is useful in it's own way, but it still might be pretty frustrated. I mean...I'm frustrated and I didn't even get to go, if you can recall my half pathetic "what's your favorite thing about the iron cage of Recollé" post.
[He transitions to sitting on a fallen tree, glancing down at a small woodland creature. A squirrel?]
What about you, buddy? Got any answers for us? No? Yeah, I figured.
[And then back up at Clover.]
...Hey.
You good?
no subject
He offered the punchline for her lame joke, so he gets a smile from her as a reward. She appreciates the gesture. ]
To be fair, what we received is more useful than a t-shirt and I made sure to take as much as I could... [ You never know when you'll need to toss magical gems at an obstacle. ] But...
[ She watches Terra try to converse with a squirrel and shakes her head. ]
I'm as good as can be. Are you? Even if you're stuck in an iron cage?
[ Clover wouldn't mind being in a cage if it meant she wasn't turning into a monster. ]
no subject
If you and everyone you love could go back to being "normal", would you do it? That's something I think about a lot, to be honest.
[Digdig, shuffleshuffle...]
And also, what do squirrels like to eat?
no subject
[ Even if it's a rhetorical question, Clover answers without a moment's hesitation. For herself, she'd go back to the time before she received any of those memories. She doesn't want any of them.
She'd rather live in ignorance than to have echoes of a world where her sister is out to murder her. ]
Squirrels eat nuts and seeds. Sometimes fruits.
no subject
Sometimes I feel like the only one. People talk about "destiny" and "responsibility" but...Before the world became small, it seemed a hell of a lot more real than it does now. Whether or not it wasn't real well...how do you prove that any memory is real, you know?
I think people undersell the kind of nightmare this is. You with your sisters, and me with...[Hm.]
Whatever future we thought we had is long gone, and man, that sucks. I wonder if I didn't waste all of the "normal" time I was given, Clover.
[he digs out some dried raspberry stuff from his bag and pokes it in front of the squirrel, who probably picks it up and starts eating it.]
––Thanks. There you go, little guy. You don't know how good you have it, man. [yeah he's still talking to the squirrel sue him]
no subject
You don't know what you have until you lose it. [ Her words are said quietly with a hint of yearning. ] I don't want to feel chained to what I was given. I want to have the ability to break those chains and grab hold of a future that's bright...
[ A future that's better than her past.
She can't deny that Retrospec has made her life a nightmare, that it's given her more nightmares, but even as negative as she is, she doesn't want to accept it. She can't accept it. ]
We have make a choice about which world we want more.
[ Which memories they want more. ]
