WARNINGS:

After getting that murder weapon from Retrospec, Naegi thought he wouldn't get anything as bad as that. He means, that's the worst of the worst, right? Nothing can really top that. But this? This... this is definitely bad. Not murder weapon bad but still pretty awful.
It's a giant red-crown crane. It's a giant red-crown crane and it's stuck in the mailbox. It's stuck in the mailbox and Naegi, being the good kid that he is, is left with the terrible duty of getting a wild animal out of it. He honestly doesn't even know where to start and when he tries to move closer to try and help, he just gets pecked twice on the forehead instead.
Pecked really hard.
He stumbles back and just holds his forehead in his hands while the bird still trashes in the mailbox.
He's... he's already done.

Well, after a minute of dealing with the searing pain of an angry bird pecking you despite you wanting to help, Naegi still tries to figure out a way to get this poor crane out of the mailbox. He takes a deep breath and gets right in there, willing to withstand the Pecks of the North Star to try and shimmy the bird out. However, it would be a lot easier if the bird didn't act like he was trying to take it out so he could eat it or something and trash around like a headless chicken.
"H-Hey, i-it's all right! I'm just trying to help you!"
He says as if the crane can understand and can suddenly realize that this human is, in fact, helping and not trying to kill it. It's going to be a long and difficult fight, resulting in someone losing an eye if this keeps up.
Please help.

Probably an hour after Naegi gets the bird free, he now doesn't really know what to do with it. There's no way he can take it home because he's pretty sure you can't keep cranes as pets (and he doesn't really want to) but the thing is...
It won't stop following him now.
For a bird that put up such a fight when it was in the mailbox, it now seems to have no problems with Naegi. The thought process is probably like this: "yes, this is a good human. This human saved its life. Gotta follow this human to be safe. Maybe it will be fed. Good human." Something like that. Anyway, Naegi is exasperated by this turn of events and he keeps looking back at it as he walks.
"I'm telling you... You really can't follow me home..."
He sounds so defeated though and that's probably because he knows that he's not going to win this fight. The crane is determined and that's that.

Wanna know how determined this crane is to following him, though?
Well, Naegi is at Recolle University, trying to attend class, pick up some supplies from the mentoring office, actually be in the mentoring office to help his mentees, and do some studying at school and this goddamn crane is following him. Throughout the entire school... Naegi is just pretty much trying to ignore it and going through his day like it's completely normal.
Feel free to meet him anywhere on campus grounds because this crane isn't going to leave him alone...

Oh, you're a real handsome one, aren't you...?

[ ... and then comes swinging down to peck her hard on the top of her head ]
no subject
She smiles a little, grinning as she brings up her other hand, the right, as if gently going over to brush at the thing's back. If it seems like she'll be allowed. ]
Sorry, that's a little strange, right?
no subject
Wow, you're... really good with it.
[ is she the crane whisperer ]
no subject
[ To be allowing her to do this, that is. She keeps up her respect for the bird, gently petting it a few more times while very much being aware of the potential for it to peck her more violently. But now that it's been confirmed that it'll cooperate, she looks up at Naegi, making (red) eye contact with him, grinning. ]
Thank you, though! I thought about owning a cockatiel at one point...
no subject
Cockatiels and cranes are pretty different birds, but I guess approaching them is similar?
[ naegi knows nothing about birds ]
How do you get it not to peck you? It's only been attacking me whenever I try to approach it.
no subject
[ Allow them to be curious, basically. ]
Or that's my experience! I'm glad it worked, this time.
no subject
So how should I approach it? Or should I just wait for it to approach me instead?
no subject
[ Or so the internet says. ]
no subject
[ a dog is pretty much the only other animal that he's interacted with, asides from daisuke's magical pet rabbit, so he has no idea how to handle birds at all ]
I think Retrospec would have been better off giving you the bird and not me.
no subject
[ It's something to consider. That said, with one more soft pet of the crane, she smiles and tilts her head, as if offering Naegi to offer to come in and... well, try to go for it? ]
no subject
[ he's assuming she's talking about a pet rather than the car but ahh, okay, let him... try to interact with the crane. he gets off his chair, standing up from it before he crouches down like she did. it's better for the bird to approach him so he tries clicking his tongue a few times to catch its attention. ]
no subject
[ She giggles a little, watching this whole interaction with Naegi! In fact, to help it along, she does pull her hands back so as to alow the crane to naturally notice him. ... she hopes this works and it's not just something like his past life was a jerk to the crane or something. He did say it came out of a mailbox. ]
no subject
[ so retrospec gave him a bird instead to take care of. this was a mistake but anyway, the crane does take notice of naegi after she moves away her hands, looking towards the source of the clicking. once the crane looks at him, he mimics what she did, not directly looking at it and opening his arms. it's going to be a very slow process because the crane only thinks "man fuck that guy" ]
no subject
[ You go, Naegi. ]
no subject
[ naegi loves dogs so he wants to see! but also the crane will start moving over to him real slowly. he can probably check his phone if she texts him pictures of dogs because who longs how long this'll take ]
no subject
[ But yes, she's going to pull out her own phone and hold the picture up over the side of the crane. She could text it or pass the phone over, but this is her first thought. But incoming picture of Porsche ]
She's a pug-terrier mix, though obviously I don't know all the details.
no subject
Wow, she's really cute!
[ the crane stops halfway when he kind of yells (also he's in a library whoops) so he then just speaks in a softer and quieter voice ]
She's really tiny looking as well.
no subject
[ Comes with the territory of being pug-terrier, honestly. ] She's reeeeallly cute though, yeah!
no subject
Hey, I think it's working. It's not attacking me so far.
no subject
[ Just to like... check or something... ]
no subject
[ "an average kid" who took part of two murder games ]
I do remember handling one when I was in middle school, though? It came on school grounds so I had to remove it.
no subject
[ That said, wow, rude to the bird... wait though, to have this bird on his school grounds...? ]
Where was your school?
no subject
[ he hopes it's a mistake but he knows it's not. will smith pose to the murder weapons he's getting ]
It was somewhere in Japan. I don't really remember where exactly, though.
