[ We all scream for ice cream! It's one of those neatly aesthetic ice cream parlors that normally has a line out the door in the middle of the shopping district. yet depending on the time of day, the chalk-sign might say in a neatly curling cursive: free ice cream on Zee Carlisle!
... that second part's not true, of course. But who ever said that Baren's honest?
Additionally if anyone had gone on a mission over the month to one of the four regions - they'll get a special text invite to free ice cream. :') good job, y'all.
i ) That said, the first part is! There is definitely free ice cream being offered out to anyone on the Retrospec app. What flavor's caught your eye? Pecan Cherry Pie? Wildberry Mango Chocolate Delight? ... there's normal flavors too, but you really should adventure out a little bit, don't you think? At least don't freak out if you find a surprise gummy worm inside.
... or do. Baren miiiight be recording it.
ii ) The owners are feeling generous - or at least Baren is. Enjoy an extra scoop or - five? Did you get more ice cream that you asked for? Tanuki-san is sitting around, eyeing your mountain there. [ Rose can be an idiot, but she's not dumb. Clover likes to keep in touch with her sisters, sending regular texts to check in on them and ask after them. They've slowly become less regular the longer she's had Retrospec. ]

She has to smile at that, and the irony makes her giggle. That's something she almost always wants to hear from someone. It's the image she works so hard to cultivate, to project. It's gratifying. It's terrible. Baren didn't say anything wrong. In most cases, it would've been the right thing to say, but she's in a weird mood. ]
Yeah, I know. I'm really glad you think that way. Perhaps once I can jump this hurdle about... or with my sisters, that'll become the truth.

[ - even if the rather troubling thing is that yes, Baren will accept it and do well to avoid failure. But he sounds dubious. He gets along better with Clover than Jasmine, sure, but he doesn't think that meant much in placing trust in him when it comes to their family matters.]

Clover smiles at him, but it doesn't reach her eyes. She doesn't care about faking too much of anything right now. ]
No. [ That comes out softly but firmly. ] I couldn't desert my sisters even if I tried, but I want to be realistic. Rose still thinks of me as a 10 year old crybaby who gets bullied. You two may have fun being degenerates together, but I think she trusts you.
[ It's not so much that Clover trusts him that Rose does that she's trusting this with him. Maybe she'll be wrong, and Rose will finally be honest with her. Maybe she'll be right and Rose will do her best to hide all the awful things from her like she's always tried to do.
Who's to say? Whichever way, she wants to make sure there will be someone to help Rose. If everything falls apart, she wants to know someone will still be there for Rose. Rose deserves that after everything she's done, everything she's tried to do, for everything she doesn't want out in the open. ]

[ - it's probably not what she wants to hear, but it's what he thinks. It's the truth, and he'd rather give it to her directly than to hide things the same way that Rose does. Baren's not sure if Clover is overestimating him, or if he's underestimating himself... and ultimately he supposes it doesn't matter.
