[Closed] A little not!date with carrot cake
WHO: Snake/Light Averly and Kouhei
WHERE: Snake and Felicia's apartment
WHEN: 3/6 afternoon
WHAT: Kouhei brings over some carrot cake he promised to make Snake once he returned. Snake is going to share some feelings.
WARNINGS: Hopefully none?
[With his return, Snake decides that he's going to follow through with his plan. He hadn't consulted anyone about this, as he knows this a decision only he can make. He doesn't know how his friend will respond to what he's going to say.
At the very least, if this doesn't go the way he hopes, at least dessert will be lovely. So thoughtful of Kouhei to want to give him carrot cake. He has fussed enough with making sure the apartment is clean that there's nothing else to do but wait.]

Of course, that includes Light, and Kouhei's happy to bake the carrot cake that was requested of him. This particular recipe is his mother's favourite, passed down and well-loved, so he has confidence that it'll be delicious if he didn't mess something up in the baking process. It looks like it turned out well....
Light will be the judge of that soon enough, though, since Kouhei doesn't take long to make his way over and knock on the door. The grin on his face as the door opens may not be something Light can see, but the somewhat uncharacteristic brightness in his voice makes his joy clear.]
Welcome back! It's so good to see you. I brought the cake, just as promised!
no subject
It's so good to hear your voice again as well, Kouhei. Come in!
[His friend certainly sounds to be in a good mood, so this might be the best chance he possibly has to see if this will work.]
I heard you had a bit of an adventure in the city, though? Or that something happened here while lots of us were out?
no subject
[Stepping over the threshold, he politely slips off his shoes and closes the door behind him.]
Thank you for having me. Where should I put the cake? [Light's tales of Pesgare will definitely be more interesting than his own, but Kouhei hums in thought all the same.] Well.... It wasn't too much. I was able to avoid most of it by staying inside, but aside from the heartstones, I heard that people experienced things like sudden rose petal gusts.

[He and Felicia had a little table to eat at for their apartment. Light already had some plates and silverware set out.]

[It figures that Light would be prepared like this, and Kouhei can't help but grin as he walks over to set the cake down on the small table, sure to keep talking the whole way so Light knows what he's doing.]
But enough about me. You must have experienced way more interesting things in the harbor town. What was it like?
no subject
That got resolved, but then a storm rolled in and we all helped there. I worked at the inn and helped make food for everyone waiting out the storm along with a few others.
Do you want any coffee at all?
no subject
[Doesn't everything he just said count as helping?]
Since the travel routes are open now, I might head over sometime and see what it's like. From the photos Nazuna sent, it seems like a nice place. I can see why you liked it.
Ah, only if you already have some brewed. How about I cut the cake? I'm anxious to see what you think of it.
no subject
But yes, go ahead and get the cake ready. I can't wait to try some.
[He tries not to compare himself to others in terms of doable/not doable because he knows that will always exist. There are things he just physically isn't able to accomplish that are easy for others, just as there are things he can do that other people could only dream about.]
no subject
[Kouhei really does like this recipe, and upon taking the cover off of the cake plate, he uses one of the provided knives to cut even slices for each of them.]
I tried it while baking to make sure it turned out alright, but let me know your honest thoughts. I may have some confidence in this recipe, but don't hold anything back.
no subject
He gives Kouhei a broad smile.]
My honest opinion? This is wonderful.
no subject
Thank goodness! I couldn't be happier. [Don't mind him taking a bite of his own, humming as he chews.] Not to brag, since it's all thanks to the recipe, but this actually turned out great. It reminds me of home, so I'm really glad you like it.
no subject
[And here is the moment, when Kouhei sounds at his happiest and everything is warm and wonderful between them.]
Kouhei? I'm really glad you wanted to come over because there's actually been something I've wanted to tell you.
no subject
[The question alone gives him pause, however, and he furrows his brow just slightly. If Light wants to say something, shouldn't he just say it? It's either important or bad news, no way around it.]
Really? Um, okay....
no subject
The thing is, Kouhei, I value our friendship. For that we are very different, we're also alike in some respects. I'm not sure when it happened. Where I can pinpoint it exactly.
But I know that I like you. A lot.
no subject
But it couldn't be. Light wouldn't think of him like that, so it's wrong for his mind to jump to it. People are loose with their words here, saying that they like and love even friends they don't know that well. That's all it is, right?
But with the way Light began, the way he prefaced this....]
That's.... Me too, but.... I don't know if I heard something wrong, but I don't want to misunderstand you.
no subject
He turned to face Kouhei and put a little more volume in his voice.]
I like you a lot, Kouhei. I may not be able to see you, but I don't need to to know that you're an attractive man.
no subject
I.... I still feel like I must have misheard you somehow. I'm not understanding you wrong?
[No, he knows he isn't. The idea of someone-- not just someone, his close friend having a romantic interest in him seems so implausible that it's hard to comprehend. But if Light is being truthful (and Kouhei wouldn't doubt him for a second), then continuing to deny him would be the most hurtful thing he could do.]
....You've never said anything before.
[Which is exactly why he's saying it now, but Kouhei is struggling to react calmly. However, at the very least, he doesn't sound even slightly upset. Embarrassed and bewildered, yes, but it isn't a negative reaction.]
no subject
[He can't see Kouhei's reaction, but he can hear tone. Light has no idea what the tone means...except that it's pretty likely that his affections aren't returned. He sighs a little.]
Well. I didn't know how you'd take it and I thought I'd ruin our friendship if I said nothing. But then I'd been thinking about it a lot and I felt like I was lying if I didn't say anything and be honest with you.
It's...okay. If you just want to be friends.
no subject
[He doesn't want to go quiet for too long, knowing that Light could easily mistake his shyness for a number of more negative things.]
Nobody's ever liked me like that before. Or, well.... I've had girls confess to me before, but I never actually knew any of them well, and....
