[ Their debate is cut short when their guide, who clearly gave this more thought than any of the civilians helping, fires a flare that arcs up and over the boat, briefly illuminating their position on the water and giving the sailors an idea where they are. A moment later, first one, then a second, a third, and a fourth small red light appear on the water around the ship. Their guide informs them that those are the lights on the life jackets.

That's a lot easier than Mao was expecting, that's for sure. ]


We can probably go closer one at a time so they don't have to swim, but we can't take too long.

[ Even though the boat isn't remotely near the size, Mao can't help thinking of the end of Titanic and the way the water churned around the ship as it sank. (He'll thank Miyamura for that later.) It's not a situation he wants to try to ride out on a jet ski. ]
