Nobody answers. The only things that come to greet them on the ship are the whistling of the wind and the rumbling of the storm.

Peter is more than strong enough to pull himself over (even without his newfound powers) but he takes Astin's hand out of politeness. It's a mock locking of hands without gripping, managing a decent impersonation to avoid questions and without accidentally breaking their hand. Against Peter's own view of it, he's adapting to his strength in ways without solving the problem.
