Autopsy is typically reserved for when the cause of death is suspicious or unknown. Most often, I collect people after their cause of death has been verified, but I have also been known to verify the more obvious cases such as old age or obvious injuries and accidents.
I prefer the body preparations, such as embalming, and include any beautification that may be requested. Makeup, prosthetics, wigs, etc.
I split the responsibilities with someone much better at grief counseling and selling caskets, but it's not unusual for a mortician to do both either.
Sometimes I help with the legal work if there's a backlog.
