his crutches are on the ground, though, and he's actually dressed in something other than his pjs. besides that, from basically running, his broken leg is throbbing like hell. But he's doing his best not to show it, though. ]
Hey.

[It's good that he's in bed, but Shuji has a suspicion that he might not have been in bed for that long.]
How are you feeling?
[In pain from running??]

Fine. Bored. [ and very glad that he got there before shuji did. he's never doing this again...probably. maybe. ] How are...things?
no subject
Better for me than they are for you.
[Shuji sighs and plops down into the nearest chair. He withdraws from his bag a copy of... none other than his latest novel.]
As promised.

it’s shuji’s novel.
he takes the book, trailing his fingers gently across the cover of the book. though sakutarou feels an incredible amount of gratitude for the gesture, in the farthest corner of his heart there’s a hint of a much darker emotion— envy. and the fact that there’s a part of him that feels this way makes sakutarou feel undeserving of this gift. ]
Shuji... this looks incredible. Thanks.

You're welcome. Even if you hadn't been on bedrest, I was planning to give you one anyway.
Not to belittle the cover art, Chiyo did a great job, but it's even better when you open it up.

I can imagine. I can't wait to read this. [ and he sets it on the night table next to his bed-- he's not going to be sleeping tonight ] If I ever have a novel published, you'll be the first to get a copy of it.

[To receive the first copy of Odasaku's book... It makes his heart warm to know Oda values their friendship that much.]
Do you want me to get you something? Water, coffee?
no subject
just a for a moment, though, since he manages to control himself again. ]
Coffee...coffee would be good. Thanks. [ he would try to say that he can do it himself, but he's both growing used to shuji's help and his leg hurts too damn much to even try and stand up. ]
If you don't mind, I'll probably start reading.
I could've sworn I answered this
[Why would he mind? Other than him technically being a guest in Oda's house, but he's here to take care of Oda. If reading helps, then reading's what Oda should do.]
How do you like your coffee?
no subject
[ the fact that shuji is making it for him means a lot for odasaku. he catches himself thinking 'as long as you make it, it's fine' but he quickly vanishes the thought. he's supposed to be getting over his crush, damn it! ]
Thanks...for doing this.
no subject
I don't mind at all.
[And he'll head into the kitchen to make Odasaku his coffee.]

starting a new book is always so exciting, even when a small part of him still feels envious over this turn of events; it leaves a strange aftertaste. but even this is not enough to deter sakutarou from reading the first few lines. almost every book he reads hooks him from the beginning, and this is no different. it separates him from the world around him, to the point that he no longer feels as if he's in his room or as if shuji was off making coffee.
right now, all he knows is the world of the book which is slowly opening up to him.
which means that, no, he won't notice (or care) when shuji gets back with the coffee. leave it there if you want he'll just drink it cold. ]

He sets the coffee next to Odasaku, then reaches to ruffle Odasaku's hair.]
I'll be just outside. Let me know if you want anything else.
no subject
but when he feels a hand on his head, odasaku is snapped out of that trance, just in time to see shuji ruffle his hair with a smile that could light a hundred rooms.
sakutarou suddenly feels his face grow warm, at a loss for words.
in the end, all he can do is nod, and try to bury his nose back into the book. but all he can think about is the kind gesture from the person he's supposed to be getting over. ]
thread wrapup?
Shuji doesn't see anything weird about Sakutarou's reaction. He steps outside his room, and will be reading one of the novels on Oda's shelves (not by him) while still paying enough attention to the real word to hear if Oda calls for him.
It's a difficult task with some books, but he'll manage.]
