WHEN: Forward dated to New Year's Eve to the start of the New Year!
WHAT: ~~Someone needs a babysitter.~~ Mio's coming over for New Year's Eve to help out since Xiaolang's going to be hanging out with ~~his girlfriend~~ Sakura on that day. And also because why wouldn't she bother him on such an important day?
WARNINGS: Most likely a lot of UST and a lot of not... UST? I'll edit if anything else comes up, though.

[ There was a lot of preparation that needed to be done for today. New Year's is a big thing - at least, bigger than Japan, at least - back home, so there was a lot of cooking that needed to be done. Of course, she helped out a lot with preparing the osechi ryori, but when her mother noticed that she was making a little too much for just their family, she couldn't help but get teased about it a little bit...

And while Mio was concerned about not immediately celebrating the coming of the year with her family, her family thought it was cute that she was doing it for a boy, and in fact encouraged her to go. Just as long as she came back and celebrated with them properly later.

Which was honestly fair, but she's glad that she got permission. Hence why she ends up calling to tell Leon she's coming over on the 31st at around eight in the evening. And don't worry, she won't be late but she's definitely coming over rather well dressed. Ever since Christmas eve, she's had her hair changed to that bright shade of green - what was this? a gift? - and she honestly hopes that she doesn't look too strange or weird.

Nevertheless, when she shows up, she comes with a huge smile on her lips before buzzing the doorbell with her free hand, since she's carrying quite a bit. A small purse on her shoulder along with the two jubako that holds the osechi. ]

[ As soon as the sound of the doorbell was heard, it's Jasmine cue to immediately start barking and sprint over to the door, scratching it with her paws. Someone was visiting them!! She couldn't be any more excited by a visitor!!!!! Especially since she was missing her other favorite boy, Xiaolang. It felt a little weird to not spend New Years with his younger cousin, but Leon didn't mind in the slightest. After all, he was spending his time at ~~his girlfriend~~ Sakura's place, and he was happy to hear they were growing closer to be able to have a sleepover.

He had just finished setting up the table with the sweets he ordered when Mio arrived. Once they made plans for her to come over, he placed an order at a sweet shop for mochi cakes and strawberry daifuku to be made for them and he just came back from the shop with them a few short hours ago. Once he heard the doorbell, he immediately walks over to open the door, while holding onto Jasmine so that way she doesn't accidentally tackle Mio. ]

Hello― [ Once he gets a good look at her, he stops in the mid-sentence of his greeting. A pink blush starts to color his cheeks and he finds himself just staring at her. The haregi she had on was pretty, but she looked especially beautiful in it. ]

C-Come on in...! [ Suddenly, he felt embarrassed by his staring and his voice sounds a little nervous as he opens the door wider for her to step in the apartment. Even though he was totally starstruck by her appearance, he was curious about something. What was up with the green hair? ]

Ahaha...

[ She can't help but laugh a little awkwardly, her cheeks a little pink as she finds herself smiling, although a little bit awkwardly. She can feel his stare and she can't help but awkwardly lift her heels up and down as she uses her free hand to twirl a strand of her green hair around her finger idly before walking in and taking off her tatami sandals, being polite. ]

I brought in some osechi ryori that we can eat after the new year hits. I made it myself, so don't worry too much about it. [ Be glad she's wearing the bracelet he gave her, okay!! ] But it's so cute that you're stammering...

[ She laughs at him and even pokes his cheek, laughing a little bit. ]

But I'm glad to see you again, Leon. And Jasmine, too. [ She beams a little bit at the cute dog. ] Hello! ☆

[ Now he feels like such a moron for staring at her like a fool. Granted, she was probably used to his dumb antics at this point BUT REGARDLESS!!! He's still holding onto Jasmine, especially since Mio had something in her hands and he didn't want the poor girl to be tackled by his dog and drop the food. ]

You certainly went through a lot of trouble. [ But none the less, he was really happy and excited to try her cooking. ] Thanks, Mio. It's been a while since I've had Japanese food, I'm looking forward to it. I ordered mochi cake and strawberry daifuku for us. It's sitting on the dining room table if you wanted to leave your osechi ryori nearby. [ Seeing her wearing the bracelet does cause him to smile a little. After learning what her favorite colors were, he had a feeling she would like it, but there's an extra amount of pride when you see someone wearing the present that you got for them. ] O-Oi! I-I was simply surprised by your outfit.

[ More like stunned by how pretty she is... ]

Y-You too... [ At Mio's greeting, Jasmine happily barks at her while wagging her tail in excitement. As much as she liked Leon, she wanted to be free so she could shower Mio with doggy kisses. She liked her a lot!!! So she was thrilled to see her at their home. She's a good hooman. ] Jasmine really liked the dog pillow you gave her, she carries it around with her everywhere.

It's not that much of a hassle... I help my parents make this every year, so I just brought the extras.

[ "Extras", as if. She definitely made this amount on purpose!! ]

Oh, mochi cake and daifuku! You got two of my favorite things, I'm really happy.

[ But she can't help but laugh a little more at him, seeing him stammer. And seeing Jasmine barking happily makes her smile, too. She's a good dog. A good dog!! ]

But alright, let me put this down, first... [ And she goes ahead to walk in and goes right on ahead to put it on the table. ] Oof! There we go. But I'm glad she liked it. So, what should we do first? Watch a movie? I kind of want to save the food for after New Year's hits.

[ "Extras", pfft. Just one look at the two jubako was enough to clue Leon in that it wasn't simply just extras the Sonozaki family had. Of course he's a tsundere so he would know. But since she made it, he decided to be good and not call her out on it... for now. ]

Really...? [ At her response, he looks happy before quickly changing his tone to something more arrogant. ] Of course! I selected those with absolute certainty that you would like it. Feel free to eat as much as you like when we get around to it.

[ Seeing that Mio now had her hands clear, he carefully sets Jasmine down and as expected, the friendly poodle takes off running to where the good hooman was standing at. She lets out a few more happy barks as she starts spinning around her. It filled his heart with warmth to watch, it was a cute sight.

As she was setting the food on the table, Leon makes his way to the living room and starts digging through their DVD cabinet. He's still contemplating how to ask about her hair. ]

Saving the food after the New Year starts sounds good to me. We only have a few hours anyhow. I have a few Cantonese movies if you're interested. I also have some video games too if you're into that sorta thing.

[ That... slipped out without him meaning to, oops. ]

[ If he ever did call her out on it, her face would probably light up with quite a bit of embarrassment. Although the arrogance that follows his question of 'really' makes her doubt that he actually was entirely confident in his selection.

And unlike him, she's not so kind, hence why she'll poke fun at him.

Oh, you were certain? For a second, I actually doubted that... But I guess I should be paying a little more respect to Old Man Zhong.

[ Rest in fucking pieces. Nevertheless, she smiles when Jasmine happily approaches her, squatting down so she can give her some headpats. ]

I actually got a dog for Christmas and I was planning on introducing him to Jasmine, but I didn't want to lug around too much stuff since it's a pain, so he's back at home. But I'll definitely introduce him next time! Promise. ✩

[ She's a little excited about that... and honestly, she wonders if Jasmine will like her dog. Standing back up, Mio grins at him hearing those suggestions as she rests her hands on her hips, looking rather confident herself. ]

Let's start with video games! Do you have any multiplayer? I want to beat you at that, too. [ Although she honestly isn't much of a video gamer herself, given that she's the heir. ]

[ Wow Mio!! Just for that, he's absolutely calling you out later whenever they eat. He's no longer holding back. Naturally, he begins to stammer at that. ]

W-Well, of course you should be paying your respects to me. [ He's your sifu. ] O-Old man?! Hey! Don't call me an old man!!

[ RIP LEON, he continues to die by burns. At the headpats, Jasmine is overjoyed and snuggles her head into the palm of Mio's hand. ]

Oh you did? What kind of dog is he? I wouldn't mind at all if you brought him here. Jasmine could use some more dog friends and I'm sure she'll like him. Maybe we can take them on walks together one day too.

[ He smiles at that, feeling a little excited himself. It was a little unexpected to hear that Mio has a dog too, but being the dog lover that he is, he couldn't wait to see her new companion. They say dogs take after their owners with Mio and Leon getting along so well it would only make sense. ]

Excuse me?! What makes you think you can beat me at video games? I do have multiplayer and I will be more than happy to make you regret those words.

[ At first he was a little embarrassed that he let his love for video games show, but right now he totally didn't care!! Now he was feeling determined to beat Mio. ]

Ufufu... it's too late, I can't take it back now, you're now officially Old Man Zhong.

[ No take backs! Of course, she's just joking around, something that's evident in her playful cheery tone. As for his question, however, she might as well answer truthfully. No point in lying, after all. ]

He's a German Shepherd named Satoshi. I asked my parents for him and talked to Kotone a bit about it and it seems that my wish came true.

[ Which is something she's glad about. Now she just needs her other wish to come true... but she doesn't have too much confidence in that. If she ever dared to admit it. ]

But oh? If you're going to make me eat my words and regret it, I guess we'll have to start now. In fact, I'll even give you a handicap and let you choose the game.

[ He looks at her with a frown. Although deep down, he totally knew she was just joking. Maybe subconciously, he was getting used to messing around with her like this. ]

Satoshi? That's an interesting name. [ He wondered what the meaning behind that was. ] German Shepherds are a good breed. I hadn't realize that you wanted a dog all this time, but I'm glad your Christmas wish came true.

[ He wasn't sure how skilled she was at games, so he had to be careful. There was no telling with Mio since she was skilled in a vast number of things, but he was feeling determined to beat her. ]

Now you're seriously going to regret it by letting me pick the game. My victory is already assured! [ With that, he quickly starts to set up one of his gaming systems to the TV. Once he set the game him and turned on the system, he hands her a controller and pats a spot on the couch next to him. ] We'll be playing ~~Mario Kart~~ Marino Cart. It's a racing game and I'll have you know, I'm pretty damn good at this.

[ She's feigning disbelief as she finds herself waving a hand rather dismissively. ]

It was the first name that came to mind. Well, it's more that I wanted a pet. It could have been anything, really.

[ But she's glad, earnestly, that it was a dog. Satoshi is a cute dog, anyway, so she doesn't mind. Plus she treats him rather well! Mio is a good pet owner. But her lips curve into a smirk as she takes a seat right next to him, taking the controller. ]

If you're that confident, then you don't mind making it a bet, do you? Because apparently you're "pretty damn good at this".

[ Come to think of it, she did say she was an impartial judge during that silly network post she made. Still, he couldn't deny that she was happy that she got a dog and not a cat. It actually made him really happy that they both had dogs.

Jasmine eagerly runs over to the couch and snuggles on the floor next to Mio and Leon. She was curious as to what these two were doing now! It looked fun since they seemed so heated up. ]

Not at all. In fact, you read my mind. I was getting ready to suggest we make this more fun by betting. [ He looks at her with a smirk. Okay, he might actually be a little nervous now, but he's totally got this!! ] What would you like to wager, my dear student? Shall we do the typical loser does what the winner wants for a week? Or do you have something else in mind?

[ When he hears that, his typical douche smirk begins to curve on his lips. He was feeling more confident in his own victory and having Mio do what he says for an entire week would be a great prize to make up for wearing those dumb cat ears. ]

That's fine. Since I'm such a considerate person, you can check out the controls as long as you like. It's not going to be fun going against someone who doesn't know how to play. Besides, there's something I've been meaning to ask you.

[ In an instant, Leon's smug grin disappears and he looks at her with a much more serious expression. His eyes were filled with concern as he glances at her green hair. It was evident to him that the application had something to do with this, but he was still worried. He couldn't imagine how he would react if he suddenly woke up one morning with a crazy hair color. ]

What happened to your hair?

Ahaha, is that so? If I were you, I wouldn't have done it.

[ But let's just go ahead and grab the small guide that says the controls and read that real quick while he asks her that question... ]

Oh, this? I guess you can say it was Retrospec's Christmas present. Does it look... weird?

Ha! Aren't you savage. I'm a lot nicer than what you think.

[ Says the guy who talks bad about people right in front of them in a different language...

Her question causes him to fall silent for a few short moments, wondering what Mio must be thinking. Naturally, anyone would feel worried or insecure about themselves should their natural hair color they had all their lives suddenly changed into something completely different. It would certainly hit him hard. After setting his game controler down next to him, Leon leans in closer and gently brushes a loose strand of hair away from her face while looking at her with a reassuring smile. ]

Mm, not at all. It's going to take some time for me to get used to the change but green looks good on you. [ Black to green is an extreme change that he never saw coming. Strangely enough, Mio isn't the first girl he's met who had their hair turn green recently. He's just going to blame it on Christmas time. ] Truthfully, I think any hair color would look nice on you and... it goes well with your eyes.

[ She doesn't believe him in the slightest bit. But when he's suddenly so close she can't help but feel her cheeks tinged pink, and she can't help but look down so that he doesn't notice. ]

That... [ It makes her happy that he's said that? What the hell. ] Well, of course! Although it just honestly makes me feel a little weird. Since I look different from sis, now.

[ At that, he frowns a little. Rude Mio!! Even if she's completely and totally right... But it's okay, he doesn't stay mad for long. Seeing her cheeks turn pink causes him to quickly move his hand away and his own face flushes into a bright red tint. ]

Yeah, I don't blame you. Having your hair color suddenly change would make anyone feel weird. I don't have a twin [ or a sibling period. ] so I'm not the best person to be saying this, but I don't think looking different from your sister is necessarily a bad thing?

You might be twins but you're still completely different people. If anything, you won't have people confusing you for the other or comparing the both of you.

Sometimes, I don't want to be Mio. Being mistaken as my sister means I don't have to be prim and polite in front of people who might know my family. I don't have to act in a certain way because I'm not seen as the heir of the Sonozaki family for once. Nobody will have any expectations from me.

[ At first, he was a little surprised to hear that from her but after giving it some thought, he honestly didn't blame her. Having to constantly act like a prim and proper heir did get irritating at times. (Not that it ever actually stopped Leon from acting like his rude self on a daily basis BUT he was at least able to act more like himself ever since coming to Recollé.)

Most people don't really think about it since we come from rich families and what not, but being a heir has it's downsides too. There's not much freedom when you have your life already decided for you.

[ There's a genuine smile when he hears that. Even though he'll be teased endlessly by her, as long as she felt happy and free then that's what mattered the most. ]

[ Her pose is pretty cute, though and seeing that causes him to grin. With a determined look in his eyes, he picks up his controller and selects his character, Luigino. ]

[ And now she'll just focus really hard with her controller as she chooses Princess ~~Daisy~~ Margaret as her own character. ]

[ Normally, he would scoff at that but since this is Mio he fully believed that once she got used to the game, she was going to be a monster at it. Her character choice does amuse him. He was going to have to tell her their character connections once they finished up. ]

Oh? Rainbow road, huh? I'm impressed you chose that one. It's the hardest cup in the game.

[ Even the great Leon himself has had trouble with this stage. No matter, this was going to make the challenge even more fun! Now that the stage has been set, the countdown starts signaling the characters in game to start racing. He grips onto the controller and immediately sends his character racing, albeit he did fall a little behind to a few of the computer controlled characters. Oh well, it was only the beginning. ]

Well, naturally!

[ She puffs her chest before the stage opens up. Thankfully they're using standard controllers, which makes this a lot easier. She can't lose to him, and more importantly, she can't lose to a few computers!!

Which is why she steadies her breathing, making sure that she hits the proper button to accelerate. Of course, she's making sure to not crash into any of the other cars and isn't doing too bad, surprisingly enough.

Mio isn't really drifting which puts her at a slight disadvantage - a common mistake made by newer players - but she's not doing too badly. ]

[ Even though this game was one of his favorites, Leon still had some trouble when navigating through rainbow road. It's so easy to accidentally accelerate and fall off this stage. He narrows his eyes as he makes a careful, but sharp turn.

Okay phew, he just narrowly escaped falling off. That would have been embarrassing, especially since he boasted to Mio just a few short moments ago.

He does glance over to see her progress and honestly, he's both impressed and not surprised. For a new player, she's not bad at all. Drifting is something she'll learn eventually, but out of everyone he's played with, she seems to be picking this up the quickest.]

You're not doing too bad, Mio. For a newbie, that is.
