Holiday Mural

[glaciers]

[There's nothing too surprising about working with somebody he doesn't know. At least he's doing it in his original reality... this is better, he thinks.

Unfortunately, though, he's staring at the buckets of paint before him with no idea how to make it into a proper mural. So he turns to Kara.]

... How are your art skills?

[maidofmistakes]

Pretty decent? I want to say so, anyway. What do you think we should put on here? Trees and snowmen probably work, but maybe we should try and put all the holidays in. I mean, the major ones, not Bacon Day or something.

[glaciers]

I thought trees were part of the holidays.

There's Hannakah too though. Do you think a Star of David would work there?

[maidofmistakes]

Sure, or at least a bunch of lights. That's what Hanukkah's all about, right? Lights because they only had enough light for, like, a couple hours and it lasted a week and some. We were going over it in Ethics the other day.

[glaciers]

Isn't that supposed to be a specific amount of lights? How many days of Hannakah are there?

... I didn't know Ethics covered holidays?

[maidofmistakes]

I don't know, talking about religious history and where people's ideals came from. And I think it's eight? I know the display at the mall had eight.

[glaciers]

If we're going to paint a menorah it should be accurate. Otherwise, it's rude.

[maidofmistakes]

Yeah, you're right... I'll go check the window display. While I'm out, what else do you think we need?

[glaciers]

Are there any other holidays that happen around now? I can only think of those too.

Uh... maybe a dreidle?

[maidofmistakes]

Sure. Uh, my phone doesn't have data, so just let me run out and check!

[Kara sets down her brush, runs around the corner, and can be heard calling out in surprise as she slips on ice and crashes. Soon enough, she's staggering back with a nervous laugh.]

Yeah, it's eight. And I guess you only light them one at a time.

[glaciers]

[Shouto winces as he hears the crash.]

Are you okay?

... We can probably paint the menorah and snowmen. [More accurately: ] I can paint snowmen, but I don't know about the rest.

[maidofmistakes]

It can't be too hard! I mean, we know how many candles there are.

[glaciers]

Okay.

Then let's start?

[He'll take the bucket of white paint for now and start his first circle.]

Bell Ringing

[maidofmistakes]

[Kara rings her handbell and indicates the children's hospital's logo on the bucket with her other hand.]

Hopefully, people will give us something, right?

[glaciers]

[Shouto's only half heartedly ringing the bell. But he is here, and he is ringing.]

You'd think that. But people are busy during these holiday seasons. Sometimes they won't stop.

[maidofmistakes]

I guess, but I think people at least get guilted into it more this time of year. Kind of makes up for it, or something?

[glaciers]

If they could be guilted then they'd donate without this much trouble.

[maidofmistakes]

Maybe it's more convenient than calling or going door to door?

[glaciers]

I think donating online is the most convenient.

[maidofmistakes]

Maybe, but at least some people are giving right now, right?

[glaciers]

... Maybe?

[Shouto's been spacing out for most of this. Bell ringing is very boring and uninvolved.]

If nothing else I'll drop in a twenty at the end.

Yeah... you're right, not everyone's giving. Hope it's enough, though. Thanks for doing this with me.
