... It makes more sense now, why we'd been able to practice all day, and then suddenly that changed.
[a pause-- he'd already internally resolved not to practice with another person, not like he had with Souji. But it was good to know.]

I'll make sure to let Souji know.
[ ...
for the first time he feels creeping, crawling guilt spreading out slow tendrils that make him feel a little chill. this ... truly wasn't mako's fault. something he'd of course known, but had been unable to make his heart believe. how could you hurt my brother, how could you hurt my twin--
but for the first time, he can put himself in mako's shoes. he remembers a long time ago, when he and souji first got mada, and yu had needed to comfort him, say--
you won't hurt me.
the knowledge that he and souji could have done this to each other if they'd been just a little less careful finally and for good extinguishes the bitter feelings he'd been carrying all this time. ]
... we still haven't remembered everything about our powers. [ ... ] There was no way you could have known, [ he adds more softly. ]

Yeah... I'm sorry I bailed. Maybe we could have found this out earlier. [he's apologizing for it, but he knows there was no way he would have been coherent if he hadn't left when he did.
Getting home had been a nightmare.]
Or... something.
