★ RECOLLE NINJA WARRIOR: TRAINING LOG ★
WHO: YOU.
WHERE: THE NEWLY-CONSTRUCTED NINJA WARRIOR TRAINING GROUNDS
WHEN: NOVEMBER 11 THROUGH NOVEMBER 24, ANYTIME
WHAT: NINJA WARRIORS ASCENDING TO A HIGHER PLANE OF EXISTENCE (or just training to)
WARNINGS: None for the log itself, please tag your individual threads responsibly as needed!
For the past week or so, construction crews have been hard at work at the site of the Ninja Warrior training grounds, hauling in structural elements, assembling obstacles, and going over the course with a fine-toothed comb to ensure that everything is up to applicable fire codes, safety standards, and technical calibrations. Fliers advertising the event have been seen all over the city, and registrations aplenty have taken place at the Sandiego Foundation in Enprise.
But now, the day has finally arrived, and registered Ninjas are welcome to make their way down to the training grounds to test their might and show their stuff!
★ ★ ★
★ ANGLED STEPS:
A rudimentary initial obstacle consisting of a series of angled platforms over a large pool of water. Contestants must use these platforms as stepping stones, leaping from one to another in order to cross from the starting point to the far side of the obstacle.
★ PROPELLOR BAR:
A wide wooden propellor mounted over a pool of water. To traverse this obstacle, ninjas must take a running start and use the small trampoline provided to launch themselves into the air and grasp onto the side of the propellor, which will cause it to spin from the momentum. On the other side, a rope is waiting, which the ninja must grab hold of and use to swing to the opposite side of the obstacle.
★ SILK SLIDER:
A zipline-style obstacle in which, instead of a trapeze bar or handle to hang on to, the ninja must hold on to two long lengths of cloth while sliding the length of the zipline's track, and eventually land on a landing pad on the far side of a pool of water.
★ JUMPING SPIDER:
Another obstacle reached by a springboard; in this case, the ninja must get a running start, jump, and traverse a narrow tunnel by jumping along through the space between the two walls, keeping themselves aloft without slipping or falling into the water trap below.
★ SONIC CURVE:
Another platform-style obstacle to cross; however, unlike the angled steps, the Sonic Curve involves a series of platforms arranged in a wide, increasingly escalating curve. Upon leaping from the final platform at the top of the curve, the ninja must catch hold of a rope and use the momentum they gained from running the curve to swing to a landing platform that awaits them on the opposite side.
★ SALMON LADDER + FLYING SQUIRREL:
A staple Ninja Warrior obstacle, the Salmon Ladder consists of a series of slightly-angled supports on either side of the obstacle, with a loose crossbar between them. After using a small springboard to jump and grab hold of the crossbar, the ninja must use their upper body strength to pull themselves up to each new rung by swinging the bar out and around the supports like a ratchet, until they have climbed all the way to the top of the ladder. There, they must jump and swing through another two trapezes, and finally jump to, grab hold of, and scale the cargo net waiting for them on the other side.
★ COIN FLIP:
A brief respite from some of the more physically-intensive obstacles before it, the Coin Flip is another balance-based obstacle consisting of three suspended platforms that can rotate freely when weight is placed on them. The ninja must use speed and agility to cross them without losing their balance and falling into the water waiting below.
★ WARPED WALL:
The final and most iconic challenge for any ninja. The Warped Wall is a fourteen-foot tall curved obstacle that ninjas must take a running start and attempt to surmount. As per Ninja Warrior rules, a competitor gets three attempts to scale the Warped Wall and hit the course-completion buzzer at the top; if they cannot reach the top in three attempts, they have failed to surmount the obstacle and their run ends.

But maybe you're not here to be the Next Ninja Warrior. Maybe you're the medic here to ensure that our intrepid Ninjas don't break every bone in their body while in the process of running this course. Maybe you're here to cheer your favorite team on. Maybe you're here to bolster the event's social media presence, or to help unload an unsettling number of boxes of Carmen Sandiego T-shirts, or to hand out water and towels to the people who take an unfortunate dunk in the water traps at the bottom of the course. Or maybe you're just passing through because you're wondering what all the commotion is over here!Tag out, thread around, meet your teams, get sponsors, interact with other Ninjas, and have a great time!

II - THE MEDIC
So during his shifts, he can be found sitting on the sidelines of the obstacle course at the medic station. He's got a first aid kit with him in case anyone wants to avoid magic, but otherwise he's got a fancy looking staff propped up against his chair and a cooler full of food. Sometimes he's watching, especially if someone he knows is training, otherwise he seems...completely bored. Heck, you may even see him working on homework or checking his texts on his phone. This sort of stuff really isn't his kind of thing.
Still, if you need a way to get healed up, he's the guy to see! If you happen to be someone that has proven to be rather accident prone and have seen him a number of times- he may save time by stopping them to cast short-term regeneration on them before they head to attempt a challenging part of the course for them. Sure, this isn't allowed during the real competition- but it's training man. Anything to stop you from visiting the medic station for the 10th time.
OOC: If your character wants to have magical healing, feel free to hit me up! Elliot can heal through by a few means: 1) He can grant short term regeneration powers that last 3-4 minutes. 2) he can use a water healing spell, great for long range. 3) He can sing and grant healing. Or 4) He has enchanted cookies/egg soup that heal a small amount as you eat it. If you have a preference for healing method, let me know!]

At least he actually volunteered for this, cause he wanted to see it. He's been on water and towel duty all day, wearing a some basic clothes he doesn't mind getting drenched, in case he falls in or something.]

Getting through the course while still hiding her super strength. Or at least doing so in a way that was still challenging without relying on it as a crutch. Sure, she wanted that damn prize. She could definitely use it. But she also wanted to see just how far she'd come, too.
The good thing was it didn't matter how strong you were for some of these. Reflexes were key. And so far, well...
She was winding up wet, more often than not. She'd tried to get clever with the Sonic Curve and wound up slipping a 450 into the drink.-
Well... so much for thinkin' I had an advantage. Pleh...

But she's also a fan of competition? And to that end, the 5' forty-one year old is doing her best on trying out every single one of these trials. Her purple hair's up in a ponytail and she has on some sun-blocking googles? Yes, she finally got those in addition to just sunglasses, and this is a time if any she needs to wear those. So run into her while she's doing that or while she's resting or anything between there.
She does, at least, seem to be doing well at a lot of these. Or well, is by the second or third try. She's getting wet or falling a lot on the first go just because these aren't things she's done before. Still, she seems to be in good humor about it all.
... And is trying to hold back on the super strength, at least a little. ]

He'll waste no time trying out the obstacles. While he does alright at some of the balance-oriented ones, he's not doing too great in general. More often than not, you'll find him having fallen into the water. Despite that, he does do remarkably well at the Jumping Spider - he seems to have no problem at all keeping his hold on the walls! Isn't that a bit odd? Or find him by the Salmon Ladder, where he's managed to grab onto the first crossbar! And is just... hanging there for a long time as he struggles to pull himself up.
You can also find him mingling before/in-between/after his practice runs! He'll be toweling himself off and drinking down lots of water. And he'll also be seeking out his teammates to talk things out!]

[prompto wants to believe he's got a bit of an advantage here. he heads to the gym religiously five, six times a week and he's been jogging every morning since he was in middle school. that's almost ten years of strong muscle under his skin. he's confident he won't fall into the pool, at least for the obstacles that don't require much balance from his behalf.]
[he's managed to make it through most of the obstacles, but he's yet to tackle the sonic curve and the warped wall. he's really underestimated how tired he would be after half an hour of training--and that exhaustion, plus his inherent clumsiness, will reveal his true weakness.]
[prompto doesn't know how to swim]
[if you're watching him on the SONIC CURVE, you'll see that he manages to get halfway through before losing his balance and falling spectacularly into the pool. he's immediately surfacing and thrashing about, trying to reach for any of the available platforms. he really should have done a tag team with someone for this. if you're watching him on the WARPED WALL, get ready to see him run with purpose, climb up the wall, but lose momentum despite reaching the top, managing to slide back down--but not before catching his chin onto the ledge... sadly rolling back down as he whines in pain]
[so much for cool prompto]
THE MINGLING
[find him before his little accidents mingling about with others, offering advice and help before someone else starts their training]
Hey, have you warmed up yet? Y'don't wanna get cramps in the middle of an obstacle.
[or, you can find him after his little accidents, nursing a sore jaw or absolutely drenched, trying to dry his hair with a towel, pout maximus on his face, trying to warm up with some tea or whatever.]

[Sorey shows up in track pants and a black tank top, nothing fancy. He is uniquely prepared for this sort of thing, he thinks. He's been taking kendo for upwards of ten years, plus he has memories of diving through ruins and hanging onto ledges. He also has memories of falling off those ledges, but that's not stopping him. It was Mikleo's fault, anyway-- he always falls down holes.
He signs up solo, not because he doesn't believe in teamwork but because he wants to test himself to the limit. And maybe he can get something else out of it, since he knows his reflexes aren't as good as he had in his other life.
Sorey does well with his strength on every practice run except for one obstacle: and that is the sonic curve. It's a little hard to tap his agility when he's midair, and at least three times has him falling into the water. But the final time, he gets it!
Only to smack face first into the warped wall a few seconds later. He backs up and shakes himself off, then takes it again. This time he's all elbows as he grips the very top of the wall and... slides down again.]
Ugh, come on!
[II. THE RESTING]
[Feeling beaten and a little bruised, Sorey nonetheless is in high spirits. He really thinks he can do this thing! Maybe he won't win, but that's okay-- he's happy just competing again. It's been a long time since he went to a tournament. He pops open a water bottle and drains the whole thing in a matter of seconds, then wipes his mouth on the back of his hand.
If there's someone around, he'll strike up a conversation.]
This is pretty fun! Who do you think is gonna win?
I
The brunet getting wet is also a 10/10, both on the attractiveness and amusement scales. Of course, once Sorey clears it, he claps for him.]
Keep it up, Sorey!
[He winces when his fiance then promptly smacks into the warped wall. A short-lived victory, it seems. Mikleo has to hide his smile behind his hand before actually shouting more encouragement.]
C'mon, Sorey, you've got this!
[Hope he enjoys having his own personal cheerleader.]

You might spot her any number of places today, from heading up into the announcer's box to test out the camera-and-microphone setup that's being installed, to heading on down to the supply trucks to join in the more menial labor and help unload boxes.
And of course, at some point in that process someone's bound to stumble across a handheld T-shirt cannon and, well. What's the point of having a T-shirt cannon if you're not going to test it and make sure that it's working properly?]
THE COURSE:
Though most of the obstacles get surmounted reasonably easily, her one hangup does seem to come at the SONIC CURVE — in which she makes it up and around all the steps without hesitation, but when she jumps and grabs hold of the rope, it's almost as though something distracts her, and she forgets that using her momentum coming off the steps is critical to completing her swing.
Instead, she just holds on, swinging idly on the rope while it slowly loses its inertia, in no apparent danger of falling into the water just yet, but potentially stranded in the middle of the obstacle with no obvious way of getting herself over to the landing platform.]

If you're gonna lose the course like that, I don't want you even muttering my name!

[ once warmed up, frederick wastes no time in observing the course, making notes on how to properly tackle each of the individual obstacles. if you're paying attention to this old man run the course, you might notice he does exceptionally well on the obstacles that deal with strength in some sort: the silk slider, the jumping spider, and the salmon ladder.
however, he's also just as obvious that he struggles with anything that deals with more with agility. he does well enough on the angled steps, but when it comes to the sonic curve or coin flip, frederick is having a bit of... trouble.
Feel free to catch him while he's running through some of his better obstacles like he's out for a casual stroll.
Just as well, feel free to catch frederick when he pops his head out of the water after failing at the coin flip for the 15th time in a role ]

[Swinging and jumping around an obstacle course isn't Ryousuke's usual activity of choice. However, he's got a little brother training for the competition and the promise of a few community engagement points to be invested in this. Today he's here as a volunteer slash drill sergeant, poised right at the pinnacle of The Warped Wall with a stopwatch in hand.
Maybe you've successfully surmounted the wall. Or maybe you're hanging off the ledge Mufasa-style, Ryousuke staring down with a benevolent smile. Either way, he'll say something like:]
Your time's slowing. Are you getting tired?

PROPELLOR BAR
[This one should be easy, he thinks. And for the most part it is as he takes the running start, vaulting himself up through the air and latching his hands around the propellor. It spins around about halfway…before he gets stuck. He frowns, finding himself wiggling in the air to turn the propellor and try to reach the rope. His ankles wrap around the end of the rope just as his arms give way and there's a yell as he finds himself dangling upside down, suspended by his feet looped in the rope and his hand stretching to try and sit upright.
You might want to just encourage him to drop. Or stand there and watch him squirm around for a while, whichever.]
SALMON LADDER + FLYING SQUIRREL
[Upper body strength isn't a thing John lacks and there's a burst of energy as he tackles the salmon ladder, the crossbar easily heading up the first ten rungs. It's about that point he starts slowing down, finding himself dangling again even as he slowly inches his way up. He eyes the trapezes nearby though and anyone below can probably hear him say:]
You have got to be kidding.
[WHY THIS.]
MIXING AND MINGLING
[In between running the course and testing obstacles, John can be found seated on the ground out of the way stretching out his arms and his legs. He's not as flexible as some people but he's doing his best ok. At other points, he may get up and just walk around to keep himself active, waving to people he knows or seeking out his teammates. Either way, he's prone to chatting with just about anybody.]
How're you holding up? [Even their stand-by team needs a break, probably.]
Salmon Ladder
[ She says, with some support in her tone? It's. You know, that whole bar thing is actually really hard unless you're in great upper body shape. To see some gangly looking kid doing it is pretty cool.
She doesn't clap though, that might offend him.

II - COACH
[Miles isn't here to be the next Ninja Warrior, he's here to train whoever thinks they can be the next Ninja Warrior. He's all dressed up for the occasion, wearing this shirt and a pair of shorts that shows off his nicely toned leg muscles. Since he's a high school PE teacher when he's not ice skating, it's mostly the kids he's instructing, but he's willing to lend a hand to adults, too.
He watches people attempt to run the course, yelling out encouragement and tips. Keep your knees up when you run, watch your posture, etc. Like so:]
Don't slow down! Keep your momentum!
[His voice is loud and clear enough that he doesn't need a whistle to be heard over the hustle and bustle of the other people milling about.]
B: DO THE MINGLE
[Or you can find him off-duty, mopping his brow with a towel or doing some stretching exercises off to one side, away from everyone else. Sometimes he has to unload boxes of Carmen Sandiego shirts because hey, he's pretty strong.]
C: WILDCARD
[Hit me up with another prompt! Miles is just on coaching duty and is more than willing to give some pointers or exercise routines.]
A
[ Now the bigger question is: which twin is this? Mio actually has her hair tied up for the course for once, not to mention that she's not wearing any distinctive clothes, just wearing something plain - but cute enough to use in a competition like this as she manages to make that running jump towards the trampoline. ]
Haaaah--!!

[ Per her promise to her teammates (as well as the bet she's got going on with her sister), Kotone's here to practice some of the skills she'll be using on the Ninja Warrior course. She's focusing mostly on the speed and balance obstacles - trying to make big enough jumps to make it across the angled steps, and then hanging on and readying herself for the next one; similarly, trying to make it through the sonic curve without falling, and then... seriously struggling with the rope swing; and running through the coin flip as fast as she can to make it through.
There's probably plenty of wiping out as she gets started, especially with that rope swing, but that's the point of training, right?
She'll also be trying her hand at the warped wall, but that's more for fun than anything else, since she doesn't expect to be able to make it to the top. No true Sasuke fan can pass up making the attempt, right? ]

[ Alternately, you can catch her taking a break from her own training to sit back and... watch some other unsuccessful hopefuls wind up in the water. It's a lot more fun to watch when it's not your own wipe-out! ]
ii
In any case, Miles is also taking a break, watching his trainees, and flinching when some of them fall into the water. He facepalms.]

Anyone climbing out of the water or looking overheated is gonna be approached to be given some said.
Of course, sometimes he gets a little close to the water.. if you wanted to be a jerk and shove him in, he probably wouldn't notice you approaching.]
