NOTES: This is just a prompt for some SOL goodness, meeting new people, hanging out with your fellow cat lovers and volunteers, I won't be doing too much organizing, it's here for you to do whatever you want with. Pitou Blythe, your friendly neighborhood volunteer organizer, is the tiny one with the cat ears and tail. They're waiting in the parking lot of the shelter with boxes of supplies, boxes of coffee, and all the documentation you could ask for. Instructions on assembly, as well as maps for the proposed locations of the new winter shelters.

Shelter Locations:

• Around the local parks - easy locations within the city.


• Into the woods - medium locations, a bit more rugged but not too much travel.


• Out into the boonies - further location, outskirts of the city, county roads, farmland, etc.

Pitou and other volunteers with vehicles will drop you off at your locations, and come back for you later!

Upon return to the shelter there will be pizza and drinks.

I don't have anything I'm good at like that. I guess it's a matter of sticking with something.

[ Minato tilts his head to the side, considers saying something, and in the end just shrugs the opposite shoulder. ]

Cats don't care if the boxes look pretty. They'll just be grateful there's someplace safe and warm they can stay.

I guess... Do you think the doorway's big enough? It's hard to tell if I made it too big or too small.

Hmm... I'd imagine strays are smaller than well fed house cats. Other small animals might use the shelter if a cat can't get in, so too small might be better than too big?

[maidofmistakes]

Yeah, probably. Cats can fit into weird spaces all the time, too, right?

Oh, yeah. "Cats are liquid," right...

[ Fitting into weird spaces = too much time wasted playing "WHERE IS THE CAT??!?!?!" with his roommate's cat tbh ]

That would be useful to be able to do. Just bend around and fit anywhere, like you're rubber or something.

[ Minato smiles a little at the thought, absurd as it is. ]

No bench would be too small to sit on. Where would you want to fit into?

Hm... If I could get in and out of my house by going through a little open window, then I wouldn't have to bother anybody.

[compendiem]

...Does your front door squeak?

[ Because that could be very easily solved by some oil. ]

It is a little old. I just don't want to be a problem for anyone.

[compendiem]

I think fixing the door might be easier than turning into rubber. Your family and neighbors and everyone would probably be grateful too.

[maidofmistakes]

[Kara turns her head away. She breathes in and out and then turns back to him.]

Yeah. Yeah, you're right. I mean, it's not even like it's a big thing?

[compendiem]

[ It's sort of not... Again, Minato feels like he said something wrong, but he can't tell what, or what he should have said instead. The whole rubber thing he can't help, but the door? ]

Maybe... I can help you fix the door? My grandparents lived in an old house. Everything squeaked. I helped my grandfather fix up what we could.

Uh... Well, I don't really want to put you out and make you have to come over to where I live. Maybe you could tell me how to do it?

[compendiem]

[ Minato frowns a little, rubbing at the back of his neck. On one hand, he's intruding, sticking his nose where it doesn't need to be, but on the other hand...? ]

Google can probably help if you want to do it yourself. So long as you can see what's wrong, and know what to search for.

Oh. Uh, yeah. Of course.

[Kara deflates. She reaches for her paintbrush again and knocks down the bottle of pine green.]

Whoa, whoa!

[compendiem]

[ Why is Kara so hard to read... It's going to be this constant spiral of self-doubt and a reminder of his own lack of understanding, but that thought is put on hold for a moment while he stands to leap out of the way, stumbles over his feet in his haste, and falls right back down on his backside with a little grunt of pain.

The paint puddles on the ground and soaks into his shoes and socks, why......... ]

[maidofmistakes]

I'm really sorry!

[She pulls the bottle back up and leaves the spilled paint to check on him.]

I didn't mean to, really...

[compendiem]

[ Accidents are just that, but Minato doesn't do anything to assure Kara that everything's all right, don't worry about it, etc. etc. He stands up, and walks right past Kara without even looking at her, paint sloshing uncomfortably in his shoes.

Goes to his cat box shelter.

Sits right back down. Takes off his shoes and socks and holds one of his socks over the side of the box, letting it drip green paint down over the grey branches. ]

...Here, you can help add leaves to the other side. Before the paint dries.

[Kara looks terrified as he walks away, but when he starts... adding to his shelter? She starts to breathe a little easier. She grabs her paintbrush and starts to make leaf shapes, taking more spilled paint from the table and ground.]

[compendiem]

[ Minato is quiet for a moment, letting the paint drip slowly so that the drops hit the wood at an angle and taper like leaves. ]

...It's fine, right? Accidents happen, make the best of it.

[maidofmistakes]

Make the best of it?

[Kara's quiet for a while, painting with the dripping mess.]

I, uh, I'll do my best. You're okay, right?

[compendiem]

[ His back hurts and his bare feet are kind of cold, toes curling as he rubs them together so they don't freeze. "Okay" isn't really the word he'd use, but he neither confirms nor denies it, shrugging one of his shoulders instead and maintaining his focus on painting. ]

No lasting harm. [ So like, there was harm. But it'll go away. ] Paint washes out. I get help finishing up this shelter. It's fine.
