I...wish I didn't have to ask you anything at all.
[With that the shadow extends what looks like an arm from the fog.]

[ mumbled somewhat to himself. from the wound at his wrist, the seed sprouts. vines emerge forth as they immediately move to seek something more solid, such as a tree or the like through the fog. with how he's still mastering his ability, he thinks it would be best to put on an extra barrier between themselves and whatever that thing is. and trees tend to work well as fairly solid barriers.
because, otherwise, it really is making its way toward them, with sureness. ]
Here's the deal. [ spoken as if peter doesn't have a choice in it-- he certainly does. ] I'm gonna tangle it up a bit, stop it or at least slow it. And then we're gonna make a sure as heck run for it, got it?

It might even be fortunate, in the end, that Peter ran into one of the Retrospec users more practiced with their powers. The shadow hasn't moved whatever feet it has since, but its arm definitely seems positioned with the aim of pick up Peter. And who knows what after that.]

[ the vines have reached their goal in meeting with a roadside tree; that's all he needs. the vines at his wrist seem to sever themselves off, their remainders curling about his arm. it's a process, that's for sure, but now john has concrete—if premature—confidence in their plan. ]
[ suddenly, a combination of tens of tree roots and vines spring up about where the shadow's feet should be, punching right through concrete. if able, they're quick to ascend upward the shadow's body, merciless in expending their strength and grasping with enough ferocity to crush metal. but, no— the focus is that arm. with any luck, the vines will spring from the shadow's body to subdue that. ]

KYOUKO
no subject
[Peter growls, before he's picked himself up from the ground. It's almost embarrassing for him if that's true. To be outwitted and maneuvered by a monster...
The shadow doesn't immediately take the time to catch up. It looks down at Peter, gaze dragged away from Kyouko, for longer.]
Is this still going to be the way you handle truth?
no subject
[ she isn't sure, and she glances over towards peter. ]
no subject
[Peter doesn't have an answer to Kyouko. On top of that, he seems to have given up on getting off the ground, because the only thing he's managed to do is crawl, and barely. The monster and its voice makes him cower.
It's not raising its voice for anything it says, but its speech is still loud just from how huge of a speaker it is. Through all those differences, it sounds very familiar.]
Hmm, this is simply how you are now. A bureaucrat, too weak to support any responsibilities. You would collapse like a platform of twigs.

MAY
no subject
[Peter almost blames May or fate that he ran into her in the middle of nowhere, because she had to be doing...something best not on the books.
The shadow, which still looks a distance away, lifts one of its arms again, like readying for a swing.]
Jump!
no subject
Then I'm gonna fight him! -And out came her pipe. So that's what that was for. It was more practical to carry around than her anchor.-
no subject
May soars before the shadow's swing ever happens, the pipe making a CLANG against its arm. Hidden in the fog, it's hard to tell if the pipe even dented the enemy metal, but it seems to recoil.]

But it's no real obstacle. He leans down to hold her hand, for crossing streets and walking through the fog.]
Come with me. We'll find her together.
no subject
[That'd work. Two heads were better than one. Or however they say it. Sakura just isn't sure on what to make of this yet. She....might be wrong? She is expecting to be. Considering who first comes to mind from the glimpse she did get of the figure. It just doesn't seem likely or possible, given the person she thought she saw was dead long ago and that was back in Japan, before she moved here. Still, it if was her mother, she has to find out, right?]
This way!
[She points, following a glimpse of longer hair in front, heading over towards the lake.]

It's when he has doubts on physically where to go that he considers questioning. ]
Uuuh, young lady, do you mean to turn to the right or the left?

2, I hope you don't mind a late tag-in with dogs
He urges the husky to walk as fast as she can, and halts suddenly at the sound of another voice in the midst of the fog.]
I wouldn't say I'm alone, since I have Francisca with me.
Not at all!!
[So he hasn't seen the other things in the fog yet. Peter is fumbling at how to warn these two away without accidentally insult the owner or the dog.]
Then you should know, that I am only concerned for your safety in these late night weather conditions! Follow the streetlights if possible and double check when crossing streets.
no subject
[He hasn't seen them, but it's very likely. Francisca is on high alert, looking around and sniffing the air.]
no subject
[Peter is impressed. He's an encouraging fellow even when he's terrified.
He notices the activity of the dog, and he doesn't think her slight distress is a coincidence.]
Francisca is able to tell that, too.

He looks down the direction of the hallway, but before taking a step he first reaches for her hand.]

[She hesitated again though, before reaching out to wrap her hand around his fingers. So tiny. And then turned and started walking towards the hidey hole, having to scramble to keep up with him.]
There might be angels on the way.
[Said suddenly thoughtfully.]
no subject
[Peter answers, thoughtful and sincere to an extent that might be surprising. But Peter hasn't been flippant with the girl, dream or not. Just walking away from the carnage allows him to take his mind off of that, and taking in the sights of the derelict city is calming in a way.]
