[open] with music played alone;
WHO: Leo Tsukinaga and anyone else!
WHERE: in dreams, around town
WHEN: various parts of October
WHAT: nightmares and fog time Oh Boy (plus a catchall for other starters)
WARNINGS: nothing to be warned for yet o/
ONE- NIGHTMARES
[the month already started off poorly for leo, between suddenly gaining the ability to speak a new language and receiving more reminders of the person he used to be. the music he used to write. the unit he used to be part of-- even if he's not sure whether they liked him or not. it makes the difference between his lives weigh more heavily on his mind.]
A. the melody you desire;
B. until this voice gives out;
[the second nightmare has leo standing alone on a stage in his knights unit uniform, a microphone clutched in his hand; the stage is lit with a single spotlight, but no one is in the booth. no one is in the audience, either.
his own voice echoes, but it's not coming from him.
Really, I have no right to be standing here right now...
To be served by knights, to have their devotion and loyalty... I don’t deserve any of that.
his breath hitches, and his grip on the microphone tightens.]
Is that why they're not here...?
TWO- THE FOG
[anyone who gets too close to leo while out in the fog will find two things: first, that their surroundings keep changing. street signs shift and change names, intersections look different every time you turn to look in a new direction-- sometimes they abruptly shift before your very eyes.
second: there are strange, flickering lights overhead.
there's a flash of light, and leo yelps, grabbing onto whoever's near and tugging desperately at their arm.]
I don't wanna go-! Come on, we gotta run--
[the flash turns out to be a beam of light that extends down from the sky, and within it there's a vaguely humanoid shape that will look like... well, whatever the person looking thinks an alien should be. it calls out in a loud, enthusiastic voice-
It's time to gooo! Be quiet and come with me!
...if whoever he grabbed onto isn't coming, leo is just going to ditch them with the alien. let's get a move on, buddy.]
Go away, I don't wanna be abducted!

[in one nightmare, leo sits in someone's office-- their shape is vague, they seem to have no name, and he squirms uncomfortably in his seat.]
I- look, I don't know what this meeting's for, but I'm gonna miss music theory, so--
[You don't need to worry about class, the vague administrator's voice says, low and calm. You're withdrawn. Not that you'd know, since you don't show up to class anyway... your tuition isn't being paid anymore.]
What...?
the message alert on his phone goes off, and they open on their own when he pulls it out, projected in the air so that any visitors to the dream can see. they're from his parents; if he wants to pursue a useless degree, they won't help. they won't acknowledge him if he doesn't change his mind.
leo drops the phone as if stung, running to the door and yanking at the knob; it's locked, and he yanks more frantically, shoving and pulling and trying to force it open in a panic.]
Let me go-- let me go, I have to go talk to them, they wouldn't-!
[Why wouldn't they? You won't make it anyway. It's better to give up now.
only then does leo notice he's not alone, turning to his visitor with wide eyes.]
Why are you-- [no, that doesn't matter. he shakes his head.] -we gotta go!

Go away, I don't wanna be abducted!

closed to keito; before shit goes south with nightmares etc
it's just enough of a distraction that he finally notices keito's attempts to get leo to listen to him, and he pulls his headphones off as he turns to face him with a yawn. good morning, he was definitely up all night.]
What is it, Keito, I'm busy... I don't have class today, I swear!
[...it's all in japanese, and he doesn't seem to think this is weird at all? he probably didn't even realize.]
no subject
You're fluent.
[this has to be a dream.]
no subject
[he knows what fluent means, of course, but why keito would say it is a mystery to him. of course he's fluent, he only speaks english?]
Keito, you're not making any... sense...
[leo's speech slows there, though, because now that he's actually paying attention (and now that keito's comment has thrown him off), there's definitely something different about it. it doesn't sound right. he frowns, fingertips resting at his lips like there might be something physically wrong with his mouth.
he's been awake for like, 24 hours, give him a minute to catch on here.]
-what's going on?
no subject
[had he always been able to do and just never confessed? No. That couldn't be right. Leo wouldn't do something as underhanded as that. He wasn't secretive enough as a person.]
When...?
1b
I dunno who they are, but I guess I am? Are we gonna sing something?
no subject
leo turns with a start at the sound of dave's voice, eyes wide in surprise before his expression relaxes into a smile that's not quite as wide as usual.]
Ah- I was! You can too, if you want-- what kind of unit are you supposed to be from, huh?
[what is that outfit, dave]
no subject
Knight. [ HE JUST GIVES HIS CLASS. it feels stupid without the other part, so: ] Of Time. What're we gonna sing, dude? I'm pretty fast on the uptake.
no subject
Well, you're not one of the ones I know, but- sure, sure! As the king of Knights, I'll make you an honorary member!
[that's not what he meant at all but whatever leo
he hums to himself as he considers, head tilted as he looks dave over.]
You were pretty good last time, so... you can keep up with one you haven't heard before, right?
no subject
[ as easy as anything, and he doesn't know what's going on but dream logic seems to indicate it will be music and he is always all right with that.
he's also always all right with being the follower rather than the leader. ]
no subject
[the others that he sang those songs with may not be here, but somehow they're what he's most wanted to sing since he heard them, even if it's alone-- or with someone who wouldn't know them. but maybe it'd help to do it with someone who he's sure can put a different spin on things?
he hopes so. despite no one being in the booth, the place seems to respond to what leo wants and the opening for one of knights' songs plays; he's only heard the song and he doesn't exactly know how to dance (or remember the choreography, yet), so it's not much of a performance beyond the vocals, but leo does his best to keep up with a song that was meant for five people.
even though there probably shouldn't be anything else on the stage, it's a dream, so anything that dave needs to play along will likely Mysteriously be there if he thinks to look. dream logic, yo.]
no subject
as long as a keyboard shows up, he can actually actively help out here, okay. or a turntable. there's so many options here and he knows the setup intimately even though it shouldn't be here, in someone else's dreams.
dream logic should allow him to understand the music, also, because otherwise he's like "ah yes, i like the beat,,," ]
1b
loneliness isn't really something she's unfamiliar with—even now, she's fraught with it, despite the friends she has—and it's not a pleasant feeling, so maybe that's why she decides to hum what she'd been practicing when they met as she joins him on stage.
out of the spotlight, about ten feet from him, but on stage with him nonetheless. ]
I suppose that means we'll simple have to make enough noise that whoever it is you're waiting for decides to come and check out the fuss, won't we? At least... That's what I'd do. The people I know are very nosy people.
no subject
It could work! Maybe they just forgot...? Or maybe they don't know I'm here! C'mon, c'mon-
[leo bounces over to her and reaches out to try to take her by the arm, tug her into the light with him. there's no audience anyway, why stay in the dark?]
What songs do you know?
no subject
and she'll let him tug her aong, she just... sort of thought the spotlight was for soloists! and he has such a nice costume on too, and she doesn't, really. she's happy to be here with him though, even if the lack of an audience is still unsettling... well, if she thinks about it like simply practicing before play rehearsal, it isn't so bad. ]
Plenty. I did sing for a while, after all. [ not to mention musicals!!! ] Hum any song at all, and I'm certain I'll be able to match you.
no subject
[he chooses one that's been popular recently, upbeat, bouncy-- something that'll be loud, that'll force him to keep his energy up to follow along and keep him from thinking too hard.
if she doesn't take a harmony part, then leo has no problem adjusting to let her take the melody; if there is no harmony, he'll just make one up on the spot to add to the song and round it out. they have background music, too, despite the lack of anyone in the sound booth.]
no subject
though she's fine dancing on her own too, she just enjoys doing both, especially since she absolutely can. the oddity of the background music being present despite how empty everything is isn't lost on her, but she's willing to let it pass commentary for the moment. they're in the middle of a song, after all. ]
attack of alien mama
Leo-?!
[ he gets pulled along with him, tripping on his feet before catching up with his pace. even turns his head towards the sky and yeah, that. sure is a UFO. and a rather happy alien. what the hell. ]
Wh-What's going on? Leo?
no subject
[leo pulls him along as he flees, abruptly turning corners in an effort to shake his pursuer-- but then the area shifts and the alien behind them disappears.
...only to reappear down the road in front of them.
We can go together, right?, it calls out, and leo quickly changes course again. fuck this shit, he's out.]
I'm not going anywhere with you!
no subject
[ he can't even get a good look at his pursuer... but okay, they're running again and they seem to be going out of the city proper and to the woods?! can the fog even spread that far? ]
Leo, hang on -- Do you even know what that is?
no subject
[there's no time to hang on!! he'll have to physically stop leo to get him to quit running, probably-- he doesn't seem to mind that they don't appear to be staying in the city, because maybe it'll be easier to escape in the woods. maybe they'll both be safe there-
but then it shifts again and abruptly the street curves, there are buildings in their way now, and they appear to be stuck at a dead end. leo's breath catches, his grip on izumi tightening.]
It-- it doesn't want you, you know? You could still run, Sena.
no subject
but - ]
I'm not leaving you.
[ a so-called king who can't do anything by himself... so pathetic. guess it's up to this so-called knight to take arms - whatever that means. he steps in between leo and that chasing figure and yells: ]
Hey! I don't even know what the fuck you are, but could you please get the hell out of here?! You'd get nothing from chasing this idiot.
[ sena is that even helping him here ]
