[Semi-Closed] Mochi Mingle

WHO: Residents of Mochi House (Akira, Elliot, Ryoji, Tuuri, Yusuke) and visitors!
WHERE: The House of Mochi.
WHEN: Month of October
WHAT: A catch-all mingle log for on-going in the Mochi House
WARNINGS: Will added as needed.

October has finally arrived, meaning this household have been living together a full month! Even better, only one of them has died so far! By now, most things are finally unpacked, boxes have been tossed out or donated to the cats, and anything broken upon move-in has either been repaired or they've found a way around it.

Hopefully September has given everyone a chance to settle in and get accustomed to everyone else's, er...quirks, as there's a lot going on this month!

In other words, it's a free for all mingle!

[ Rather than the crack of splintering wood, it's one of the cats that yowls and streaks across the house that gets Ryoji's attention, and he wanders outside towards where the creature had fled from, looks at the remains of the chair, looks as Elliot with that incriminating magical weapon, and then back at the chair. ]

Was that an IKEA chair...? Maybe this is covered by the warranty.

[personal profile] appraiser 2017-10-03 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ The delayed, jumpy response is paints Elliot with suspicion, even more so than the staff in his hands. Ryoji doesn't want to outright accuse him of blowing up their sparse furniture that they can barely afford to replace, so he goes with a gentler question: ]

What happened?

[personal profile] appraiser 2017-10-03 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Swinging like...?

[ Mafuyu would mime a baseball bat, but Ryoji mimes swinging a golf club, assuming the chair was in the way and had gotten smashed as a result of Elliot golfing too close. ]

I mean, it's nothing to apologize for. We can recycle the remains to use in a bonfire.

a. coming soon to a living room near you
[Strangely enough, Tuuri seems particularly busy that first week of October-- almost as if she was doing something incredibly time-consuming, nonsensical, and pointless. Like, spending the entire day out of the house, then rushing home in a hurry to immediately hide in her bedroom. Roommates may once have been treated to what sounded like an hour long phone conversation in rapid-fire Finnish coming from her bedroom. Still, one morning, Tuuri looks exhausted but inordinately pleased with herself, and is sitting at the kitchen table eating a sad bowl of cereal and milk with her laptop conspicuously positioned to be visible to anyone who comes in. She waves when someone inevitably does, nudging her screen around a little more 'by accident' and saying]

Are you excited for movie night?

[Visible on her screen is an actual, legitimate website for Taikamerirosvoja, complete with dramatic-looking movie poster (that manages to be artistically vague and show none of the cast) and a ton of Finnish text attributing the movie to "Kaino-Vieno Hollola," if you were to navigate the page far enough to figure out the name of the director (or like, google translate it). It's even a .fi website, though anyone who is computer savvy enough to go digging into the history of the URL will find out that it was registered like, yesterday.]

b. here kitty kitty kitty
[Tuuri has never had a pet before in her entire life, so two cats in the house?? Basically heaven. She spends an absurd amount of time lying on her stomach in the living room, a textbook open but completely ignored next to her, as she dangles a scrap of fabric towards one of the cats to convince them to love her like she loves them.]

Look! Look at the fun string! See, isn't it fun? Come on, look!

[She is not actually doing a good job at attracting this cat's attention. A lifetime of loving cats from afar does not make one an expert at cats.]

c. some good old-fashioned roommate conflict
[So look, we've all been there, right? You're making a fake movie, you've been promoted at work, and you're taking extra credits while in school full-time. Everyone is busy. It happens to everyone. A completely understandable issue.

Tuuri left a bowl in the sink. For over 24 hours. And just proceeded to not wash it whenever she came back into the kitchen.]

d. idk wildcard
[Edits this post a billion times ANYWAY Tuuri works fairly late nights at Club Sunshine so comes and goes at weird hours, does her homework in shared spaces and occasionally with music, and is probably the least likely to leave her hair in the drain in this entire house, woohoo.]

[Hmm, okay, Tuuri is a little disappointed that Elliot hasn't acknowledged her website, but he does look pretty tired... she shifts the laptop slightly to make the screen more visible but since Elliot is already in the fridge, it's probably going to have to go on the back burner until he's done.]

You're up kinda late! [she says cheerfully, no offense meant.] Do you want any help?

[Tuuri isn't a terrible cook, but her skills are firmly in "college kid living alone and cooking for the first time" territory.]

[Man, why does Elliot have to be so polite. This is the worst.]

Aww, don't practice too hard! [She assumes he means violin practice, or maybe she knows what he's actually talking about by now. In any case, she was honestly hoping to help him prep the omelette faster so she could show off her very legitimate website, but it's not to be.] I'm good! Busy at work, haha. [And filming a movie, obviously.] I got a promotion.

Mmmostly the same thing-- inventory and things like that-- but I also get to boss people around now.

[Well, she did that anyway, but now she has authority to do so.]

I might be working a little later, though, so I hope it doesn't wake anyone up when I get home!

[personal profile] skald 2017-10-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, thank you! [No, she's going to take that as a compliment, it's okay.

Elliot offering to save her dinner is a Big Deal, though.]
--Oh, no, but you don't have to do that! It's fine, really. I don't want you to go through any trouble. Just let me know if I keep you guys up, and if on the off chance you ever hear from my brother, don't tell him where I work, haha.

[Tuuri, of course, never goes through any trouble for anyone.]

But speaking of my brother! I spoke with him and he's going to get the movie for us soon!

[personal profile] skald 2017-10-05 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, he worries about things a lot. He'd totally freak out if he even knew what the work hours were. [Much less that she's working for a cabaret club, even if she's not a host, shhh.] So it's just easier not to tell him.

[With that cheery little line of thinking out of the way, she spins her laptop around, clearing her throat so he looks up.]

I'm glad! This is the official website. Looks pretty cool, right?
skald: (kaksikymmentäyksi)

[personal profile] skald 2017-10-05 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I think that's just how older brothers are.

[Hm, that response makes her frown just a bit-- it's better than 'really cool,' come on Elliot, what a disappointing thing to hear about her work-- except wait, right, it's not like she can tell Elliot that she made it. Saying "thanks" would also be a bad idea right now.]

Haha, yeah, it does, doesn't it! [She'll just fish for more compliments instead.] You know, Kaino-Veino Hollola is a super newcomer to the industry, but everything I've heard-- on the Finnish bloggosphere obviously-- says that it's a really successful work of art.
skald: (neljäkymmentäyhdeksän)

[personal profile] skald 2017-10-06 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, that's her! [Tuuri’s middle name is Kaino-Vieno, coincidentally. Just a coincidence. Pretend I spelled it right in my last tag.] Like I said, she's super young and this is her first major work, but she's getting really good reviews.

[Then she starts feeling slightly bad about tooting her own horn, so--]

The editing is the real star, though. The cast are all newcomers to the Finnish movie industry, but they're phenomenal too. I'm really excited to share it with you guys.

[This is a top level for stupid roommate movie night; there's like, pillow forts and some sort of Finnish Food (please deliver, Elliot? because Tuuri has an innocent bowl of salmiakki sitting on a coffee table for people to grab), and the masterpiece that is TAIKAMERIROSVOJA.]

[If Tuuri looks a little like she hasn't been sleeping, it's not (just) because of the nightmares. Apparently, movies aren't meant to be produced in the span of two weeks. Who would have thought? It's with a certain exhausted satisfaction that she hits play on the movie, which is described in all its glory in that link. The important part, for interaction purposes, is that Tuuri is translating on the fly. Which, with a movie like this, means she's making it up as she goes along.]

Uh, that line was something like 'avast, me hearties!' [she says, which is obviously a lie but she's too tired to come up with something better.] 'I'll get you, my pretties!'
skald: (viisitoista)

[personal profile] skald 2017-10-17 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
They're-- [fighting because there were a bunch of fake weapons laying around and it just seemed like the sensible thing, is the real answer; making up a plot on the fly is hard] --representing the age-old struggle between tradition and innovation! It's very symbolic.

[On screen, one of the weapons breaks from swinging it too hard.]

--Look, there goes tradition, buckling in the face of the globalization of media!

[personal profile] skald 2017-10-19 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Holy shit. Elliot 100% bought that. Tuuri is a genius.]

Hee, it is, isn't it! A lot of our movies are like this; very symbolic and obscure.

[On screen, one of the two fighters yells a line pulled from the Finnish dub of a Disney movie.]

"Perhaps on the shore, they would understand our troubles, instead of admonishing us!" See, a lot of it is about the end of the... golden age of piracy.
