[Semi-Closed] Mochi Mingle
WHO: Residents of Mochi House (Akira, Elliot, Ryoji, Tuuri, Yusuke) and visitors!
WHERE: The House of Mochi.
WHEN: Month of October
WHAT: A catch-all mingle log for on-going in the Mochi House
WARNINGS: Will added as needed.
October has finally arrived, meaning this household have been living together a full month! Even better, only one of them has died so far! By now, most things are finally unpacked, boxes have been tossed out or donated to the cats, and anything broken upon move-in has either been repaired or they've found a way around it.
Hopefully September has given everyone a chance to settle in and get accustomed to everyone else's, er...quirks, as there's a lot going on this month!
In other words, it's a free for all mingle!

[It's no secret that besides Elliot's brother, Elliot's family lives out of town. Besides that? There's really not much he says about his family. In fact through most of the first month, he did his best to evade questions about his family. It was just...easier that way.
But early in October, if you come into the living room at the right time, you might overhear Elliot talking on his phone to someone. He doesn't look happy to be doing it. Instead as the conversation goes on, he seems to wilt. His stuttering and mumbling increases, as does his apologies. Which doesn't seem to really please whoever he's talking to on the other end, as if you're close enough, you can hear a female voice sound annoyed every time he does that.]
I-I met someone who said they c-could get me a gig a-at their club. And I've been playing at my roommate's ca- [.....] N-no, I-I know. I-it's not a real job. [.....] Y-Yeah, I got your emails about the Police program's spring courses. I...I just don't think I-
[...........]
Y-You're right, it's important, I'm sorr- [...] I-i mean, I'll take a closer look, okay? [...] Love you, Auntie. S-Send my regards to everyone?
[When he hangs up the phone, he'll drop it next to him and let out a big sigh, shutting his eyes as he leans forward. He's not sure he'll ever look forward to these calls home, jeez. He didn't even get a chance to talk about Eren.]
[B. Wtf Is this Stuff ]
[Early in the month, Elliot got a number of packages from Retrospec in the mail. You might fight him at the kitchen table, looking over each one with a look of complete confusion. There's a weird looking flip-phone that's about the size of an iphone, some blue glowing marble, and a staff (though the green is now gray, of course). All of this seems...really random.]
What kind of military school was this...?
[I mean, it's disturbing to think he HAD to go to military school, but what the heck kind of school gives you a STAFF?]
[C. YER A WIZARD
HARRY][Speaking of the staff? Sometime later, he's in the backyard, trying to get a handle of the staff. It's...kinda pretty, he thinks. He didn't know a single thing about staffs, but he know it looked nice. And it was probably better than any weapon with blades or bullets, even if he had severe doubts of himself being able to use this well.]
W-Well, might as well try. Maybe something will come to me...
[He'll try to give it a testing swing at nothing in particular. But the moment he's half through through the swing? He feels a surge of energy and three glowing energy bubbles (that honestly look like water) about the size of a volleyball come out of the staff- flying straight into the wooden lawn chair nearby. The chair breaks apart and the pieces go flying a short distance away]
W-WHAT?! Oh Shoot!
[D. Wildcard! ]
[Got another prompt? Go for it! Elliot can regularly be found practicing his violin in his room, listening to music, studying, or cooking for all his roommates. ]
c
Was that an IKEA chair...? Maybe this is covered by the warranty.

So he doesn't hear Ryoji approach until he speaks up, and he nearly jumps out of his skin]
- Gah! R-Ryoji!
no subject
What happened?
no subject
[His hands wring the metal of the staff nervously]
I-I'm sorry! It was an accident! I was practicing swinging this staff, and-
Well, I'm still not sure what happened really.
no subject
[ Mafuyu would mime a baseball bat, but Ryoji mimes swinging a golf club, assuming the chair was in the way and had gotten smashed as a result of Elliot golfing too close. ]
I mean, it's nothing to apologize for. We can recycle the remains to use in a bonfire.
no subject
[He sighs and takes a step away. Well, he might as well demonstrate because he has no clue about sport terms to really describe. But he'll swing the staff almost like you would a lacrosse stick, with starting high and swinging down.
And just like before, halfway through the swing he feels a surge of energy as the staff releases three glowing gray bubbles that go flying out. They travel for about four or five feet, fortunately not hitting anything this time, before disappearing]
....That.

[Strangely enough, Tuuri seems particularly busy that first week of October-- almost as if she was doing something incredibly time-consuming, nonsensical, and pointless. Like, spending the entire day out of the house, then rushing home in a hurry to immediately hide in her bedroom. Roommates may once have been treated to what sounded like an hour long phone conversation in rapid-fire Finnish coming from her bedroom. Still, one morning, Tuuri looks exhausted but inordinately pleased with herself, and is sitting at the kitchen table eating a sad bowl of cereal and milk with her laptop conspicuously positioned to be visible to anyone who comes in. She waves when someone inevitably does, nudging her screen around a little more 'by accident' and saying]
Are you excited for movie night?
[Visible on her screen is an actual, legitimate website for Taikamerirosvoja, complete with dramatic-looking movie poster (that manages to be artistically vague and show none of the cast) and a ton of Finnish text attributing the movie to "Kaino-Vieno Hollola," if you were to navigate the page far enough to figure out the name of the director (or like, google translate it). It's even a .fi website, though anyone who is computer savvy enough to go digging into the history of the URL will find out that it was registered like, yesterday.]
b. here kitty kitty kitty
[Tuuri has never had a pet before in her entire life, so two cats in the house?? Basically heaven. She spends an absurd amount of time lying on her stomach in the living room, a textbook open but completely ignored next to her, as she dangles a scrap of fabric towards one of the cats to convince them to love her like she loves them.]
Look! Look at the fun string! See, isn't it fun? Come on, look!
[She is not actually doing a good job at attracting this cat's attention. A lifetime of loving cats from afar does not make one an expert at cats.]
c. some good old-fashioned roommate conflict
[So look, we've all been there, right? You're making a fake movie, you've been promoted at work, and you're taking extra credits while in school full-time. Everyone is busy. It happens to everyone. A completely understandable issue.
Tuuri left a bowl in the sink. For over 24 hours. And just proceeded to not wash it whenever she came back into the kitchen.]
d. idk wildcard
[Edits this post a billion times ANYWAY Tuuri works fairly late nights at Club Sunshine so comes and goes at weird hours, does her homework in shared spaces and occasionally with music, and is probably the least likely to leave her hair in the drain in this entire house, woohoo.]
A
Haha, you bet I am!
[But he doesn't seem to take much notice of the website, instead making a bee line for the fridge to pull out ingredients to make breakfast]
no subject
You're up kinda late! [she says cheerfully, no offense meant.] Do you want any help?
[Tuuri isn't a terrible cook, but her skills are firmly in "college kid living alone and cooking for the first time" territory.]
no subject
Ahaha, yeah, sorry. [Cause it's clearly something to apologize for.] Think I wore myself out practicing.
[He shakes his head.] That's okay, I'm just making a simple omelet, but thank you!
How're you Tuuri?
no subject
Aww, don't practice too hard! [She assumes he means violin practice, or maybe she knows what he's actually talking about by now. In any case, she was honestly hoping to help him prep the omelette faster so she could show off her very legitimate website, but it's not to be.] I'm good! Busy at work, haha. [And filming a movie, obviously.] I got a promotion.
no subject
He's not going to clarify what kind of practice it was. With his ingredients out, he'll grab a bowl, whisk, and frying pan. He turns on the stove to heat the pan. ]
Wow, really? Congratulations! [He'll turn to smile at her. Good for you!] What'll you be doing now?
no subject
[Well, she did that anyway, but now she has authority to do so.]
I might be working a little later, though, so I hope it doesn't wake anyone up when I get home!
no subject
[I mean you sure love to micromanage here- I MEAN YOU SEEM LIKE THE LEADER TYPE. Elliot will just start cracking eggs into a bowl with an expert style]
Don't worry, I'm a pretty sound sleeper. I can make sure to save you some dinner too when you work late, okay? Just let me know when.
no subject
Elliot offering to save her dinner is a Big Deal, though.] --Oh, no, but you don't have to do that! It's fine, really. I don't want you to go through any trouble. Just let me know if I keep you guys up, and if on the off chance you ever hear from my brother, don't tell him where I work, haha.
[Tuuri, of course, never goes through any trouble for anyone.]
But speaking of my brother! I spoke with him and he's going to get the movie for us soon!
no subject
[That's kinda weird Tuuri- but oh hey movie]
Oh, that's great! I've really been looking forward to it!
no subject
[With that cheery little line of thinking out of the way, she spins her laptop around, clearing her throat so he looks up.]
I'm glad! This is the official website. Looks pretty cool, right?
no subject
[But now that she brings it up, he'll look over at the laptop]
Oh yeah! It looks really cool!
no subject
[Hm, that response makes her frown just a bit-- it's better than 'really cool,' come on Elliot, what a disappointing thing to hear about her work-- except wait, right, it's not like she can tell Elliot that she made it. Saying "thanks" would also be a bad idea right now.]
Haha, yeah, it does, doesn't it! [She'll just fish for more compliments instead.] You know, Kaino-Veino Hollola is a super newcomer to the industry, but everything I've heard-- on the Finnish bloggosphere obviously-- says that it's a really successful work of art.
no subject
[He keeps beating the eggs. It's true that he doesn't know she made the website, so he's nowhere near as awed about it as he would be if he knew. To him? It was just another movie website. Those had professionals to make it look as cool as possible right?]
Kaino-Veino Hollola? Oh, is that the director?
no subject
[Then she starts feeling slightly bad about tooting her own horn, so--]
The editing is the real star, though. The cast are all newcomers to the Finnish movie industry, but they're phenomenal too. I'm really excited to share it with you guys.
no subject
[He'll smile at her]
But really? I'm just looking forward to getting to spend time with you guys. I've only been here a couple months, and it's really busy so...I haven't really gotten to just hang out with friends, you know?
MAGIC PIRATES ITT
no subject
Uh, that line was something like 'avast, me hearties!' [she says, which is obviously a lie but she's too tired to come up with something better.] 'I'll get you, my pretties!'
no subject
But while the movie is going on, he'll play along.]
Haha, really? So why are they fighting now?
no subject
[On screen, one of the weapons breaks from swinging it too hard.]
--Look, there goes tradition, buckling in the face of the globalization of media!
no subject
[Sounds fake, but he'll just go along with it]
That's very deep!
no subject
Hee, it is, isn't it! A lot of our movies are like this; very symbolic and obscure.
[On screen, one of the two fighters yells a line pulled from the Finnish dub of a Disney movie.]
"Perhaps on the shore, they would understand our troubles, instead of admonishing us!" See, a lot of it is about the end of the... golden age of piracy.
no subject
Oh, was there a golden age of Finnish piracy?
[Elliot that's the vikings]
no subject
Because everything is better than Salmiakki.
With the food all served up, Elliot happily watches the movie. It...doesn't take long for him to catch on that something's strange here. He recognizes the filming locations, not to mention the actors. But he'll watch it all the way through, seeming completely entranced by it.
When the movie finally finishes, he remains sitting on the couch. His hand is over his heart, and his eyes are closed. He also seems to be tearing up a little. Wow. What's with that? At least he looks happy from the small smile on his face...? ]
