[ maybe you have a favorite host or always ask for or maybe you're just here to sit at the bar and eat light appetizers, no one is judging either way. majima himself is always busy, walking between tables to bring whatever things the hosts need (ran out of ice? need another glass?) and making sure everyone is satisfied. if not, he's got that super fun job of settling disputes but for a guy who seems more likely to punch someone in the face than talk, he's always very patient even with the most belligerent of guests.

repeat guests and particularly good hosts might even get a gift from majima at the end of the night - a nice bottle of champagne, some money, or maybe some chocolate. something to commemorate the evening or someone's hard work.

those of you who know majima will note he's like 500 times more polite while he's on the job - but if you really want to talk to him straight he'll take you back to the office and chat you up accent and swearing and all. he's got to look presentable for customers, you know? ]

Okay, don't worry! Don't think of me as your boss, jus' think of me as some rando off the street.

[ majimas not about to let even his bests hosts let their skills get rusty. at the beginning of their career, he holds trainings more often, but for people who have been around for awhile it's just once every month or so, just to check in. before opening time he has them come in, and they take a seat at one of the tables together. ]

We're jus' gonna chat, yeah? It'll be fun.

b. it's a "date"

[ sometimes, though, training is more than just talking. after all, lots of hosts go on dates after their shift so he wants to make sure they're good for that too. fun date options around town include: karaoke, darts and pool! look, these are important skills. also, he will totally teach them how to be a pool hustler.

[ getting the club ready is a busy process! and honestly, majima seems to be working all the time. whether he's around town buying things and making sure they've got everything for the evening with one of his great support staff by his side, or back at the club running numbers, or just making sure that all the tables are set and the glasses are clean.

you're welcome to pop your head in during this busy time or find him around town doing errands - there's a lot of possibilities here if you really want to run into majima or one of his other staff members as they're getting ready for the evening. ]

[ before they open, all that's left is putting on the finishing touches - getting make up and clothes ready so all the hosts look their best. Majima's happy to help with that stuff too - he's got a great eye (just the one!) for making sure clothes and accessories match. it's also a great time for last minute concerns or questions. majima tries to check in with everyone and see how they're doing before they open, anyways. ]

[Shuji works here part-time, but he isn't a host. That said, patrons can see him in the back, taking inventory or getting Majima's attention for something. He dresses well when he's at the club, naturally.

...he's not going to talk to customers during work hours - they should be talking to the hosts, and also buying drinks - but it's possible to meet him on his way to work, or to just see him after spotting him at work and interrogate him about his job.]

[Shuji's actual job is helping deal with the money parts of the business. Parts of this are easy - Shuji can draw up a budget based on what they've spent on which aspects of the business in previous months, and tell you when they've overspent or whether they can afford to invest more in this and this and how much savings they should keep in case they get a hole in the roof or something.

Parts of this are not easy.

That thumping sound you just heard was Shuji's head hitting the table he'd been working at. It was followed by a loud groan of:] Tax law.

[Shuji's official role may be to deal with financial stuff, and he would die rather than be a host and have his job be making conversation with people he doesn't even know. But he does know fashion and styling, and right before they open is a busy time when all hands and eyes are needed.

To hosts:] Your tie's too close to the red in your suit without matching, it looks weird, switch it for a different red or a neutral.

[ Kiryu's a regular, so he definitely recognizes Shuji by now. He hasn't actually gone to say hi yet though, so it's probably time he fixed that. Plus, it's early. Kiryu probably wouldn't be let in if he wasn't dating the boss. ]

[Terra frowns at Shuji after being scolded about his cufflinks. Do cufflinks even matter that much? Is anyone going to notice? Isn't he the cool, tall, strong, rugged guy anyways? He groans softly as he materializes his cufflinks from wherever.]

Sorry, sorry, Shuji...[He'll go on putting them in...]

I miss being tucked away at the bar, when no one really noticed this stuff...

[And as he's putting in his right cufflinks, his fingers lock up for a moment, causing it to drop down to the floor, tinging and tanging as it rolls up to Shuji's feet.]

[It's not that she wants to partake in the club so much as she simply wants to see it, and so she declines to take a seat when the attendant asks her. Instead she sits at the bar, ordering something nonalcoholic and taking in the scene.

It's interesting, she has to admit. She's never seen its like before, but there's something a little charming about the set-up. Hosts both male and female chat cheerfully with their customers (what about, Rosalind wonders, but she supposes they have a list of topics with which they might engage their client), and though there's clearly a few drinks here and there, there's nothing unpleasant or aggressively alcoholic about the atmosphere. It's friendly, low-key and yet with a touch of class that lifts things nicely.

Well done, Majima, she thinks to herself, and watches the man in question as he goes from table to table. She won't bother him while he's busy, but once there's a lull, she'll look to catch his eye.

But hey, if anyone wants to talk to her while she's waiting, feel free.]

[ Kiryu is a regular at Sunshine, and it isn't just because his boyfriend owns the place. He enjoys chatting and drinking with the girls and guys who work here, and is more often than not hanging out as a customer than visiting Majima in his office. It's totally fine, he and Majima have an understanding. He's not gonna tell Kiryu to just stop talking to people he likes.

Plus, Kiryu has deep pockets. No joke, he drops so much money at Majima's club that he probably should be getting some kind of discount. Ah, well, he doesn't mind, really. He just really loves it here. Lucky you, it looks like he's your customer tonight. ]

[ So maybe Kiryu does come to the club outside of just his usual routine as a customer. This time he's looking for Majima, but it's not anything urgent and he's happy to help around in the meantime. That said, he did have a rather formal day at work, so you it's somewhat understandable if you saw him and thought he was part of the staff. Or maybe this is where you pin Kiryu down and ask him about his personal life? Idk, just go for it. At the very least, he's good for bossing around if you need to carry something heavy. ]

[Terra is still getting used to being away from the bar--it's been about a month and a half and he still has trouble being a more typical host. Occasionally, he looks back at the bar longingly with a sigh. Hopefully he can get his spot back once his hands have recovered enough...

But! Relief! It's Majima's boyfriend who, while Terra hasn't interacted with a whole heck of a lot, can only be an agreeable person if he's able to handle Majima. Sometimes he needs to be careful depending on the person, but Kiyru should be a safe bet to stay more relaxed. Terra grins at him happily.]

Ah, Kiryu! Nice to have you back once again. We've been counting the minutes~ [Is that too flirty of a greeting for your boss' boyfriend? Oops.]

[ majima smiles when he spots kiryu. he's busy, of course, right now he's looking through some dresses and making sure they're okay, but kiryu's worth the break ]

[It's not like she even hates Kiryu, but it's definitely weird to have her ex as a guest. When she's working as a hostess. When they had that brief date back when she was doing sex work, there's just so much that's weird about this to her okay. But because of that, she can't even pretend to keep up her hostess attitude, oops.]

[ mistake him for part of the staff is exactly what john does. or, actually, he isn't sure. he's definitely seen kiryu around, but when he's mostly sticking to the back and running in and out on some errand or another, it can be difficult to keep track of who's who and where.

so, spying an opportune moment, he'll quietly approach. he's not quite— shy (few people would call him "shy"), but it is with a notable bit of hesitance. ]

[Fai is a regular at Club Sunshine... but not for the hosts. In fact, he's never actually been a real customer of the club--unless you count the bar, which he does like to stop at on occasion.

Rather, he adores Majima and Kiryu, and at least once a week you can find him strolling through the entrance of the club as if he's been here forever, and then making a beeline for Majima's office. Usually he's got some kind of tupperware in his arms that he'll end up exchanging for the empty container he left for Majima the last time he was here.

September's a little different. August was hard on everyone, and between his injury and the therapy appointments he's been running, he hasn't had much chance to make it to the club. As a consequence, toward the end of September he feels like he hasn't seen Majima in forever and he desperately needs to change that. It's been way, way too long!!

So some random day, here's Fai in the entryway just as the club is getting warmed up for the night. The staff that recognize him get a big smile and a wave, and the staff that don't just get a shrug and a shake of his head--no, he's not here to see one of the girls, or one of the guys. He's just here to see the boss. Feel free to catch him now, or maybe a little later at the bar :) ]

[ that's majima for: it's been way too long. there's a moment where he almost looks like he might hug him, but that's a big much even for majima for now (even if, in his memories, he can feel every gesture that's bigger, more energetic. "what happened to the time where every day was full of life?"). ]

[like most of the other hosts, Nikkari on the job is far more polite than Nikkari off of the job. charming, friendly, able to make someone feel special. gender doesn't matter - he'll be the same to girls or guys, and he always has a smile for them.

and the guests who want the whole experience don't have to wait long after sitting down before someone comes over to them - mind if I join you? ritual, routine, but somehow Nikkari makes it not just a line. and he looks for cues in the person to deduce what they want - talking, just some fun, or if they want to be flirted with and be convinced that this is more of a date than anything else. he may not be the longest standing host there, but if there's one thing that he excels in, it's sincerity.]

[behind the scenes, there's things to do. for Nikkari, he's sitting on a chair, legs stretched over another, phone in hand and a furrowed brow as he types out an email. still, he's not ignorant, and if someone comes near he'll look up, pulling his legs back.]

[Since she kind of has to, seeing as how she's being paid to be friendly and welcoming. Anyone who knows Rose outside of work—or even just anyone who knows her, her hair trigger temper has already come out once or twice during a shift—would know that this charming smile and friendly attitude are about as far from how she really is as possible. Having not worked here for too long yet, she also can't help but feel awkward as hell about it. Sure, she knows all about faking an attitude thanks to past work experiences, but keeping it up for this long is pretty tiring.

Still, she's trying here, attentive with guests' needs whoever they are and probably a little too good at convincing them to spend more money than they ought to. She's far from the most popular hostess, and the lengthy pauses as she tries to get comfortable with small talk and chitchat are probably a good indicator of why, but there's no doubt that she's putting in real effort for this. Care to talk to Rose when this is probably the nicest you'll ever get her??]

[She expected to find the door still locked seeing as how it was before the club officially opened, but she doesn't wait around for permission to come in once she has the door open. She just steps inside and begins her hunt for Mista. Well. She tries to begin the hunt. She's not 100% certain he's even here to begin with -- it seems like it could be 50/50 as far as whether Mista's the first or last staff member to show up for work -- but she definitely doesn't know where he'd be if he is.]

[She wanders around where there are a few staff milling about, setting up tables. There's one guy that they answer to and Nico assumes that's Mista's boss. She pushes her way between two staff, wedging space for herself to pass with her hands and completely interrupting whatever conversation was happening or instructions were being given.]

[ for a limited time offer, club sunshine will be graced with the presence of that one model boy that's been steadily gaining popularity nowadays. but despite being known as that rudeass grumpy kid on retrospec (and irl), sena is a rather cordial host, a polite smile on his face as he he asks his customer the right questions and pretty much charming them off their feet. it's a pretty jarring sight to see him so nice, really.

but there's just one thing that he's not okay with at all - drinking. he's totally forgot to brief majima about this during their impromptu interview but welp, too late, he's stuck with a customer (that may be you!), who's really insistent on making him take a shot. ]

Ah, I apologize... I'm no good with too much alcohol at all, actually. But that shouldn't let you ruin your time here - please, I insist that you should enjoy yourself above all else here. I don't mind at all. ♪

[With a new apartment under his belt, Goro's really feeling a second job... so to distract himself from his thoughts and memories. Modelling does a great job at the money thing, but not so much that. So he's picking different places to check out, and Club Sunshine's certainly going to be one of them.

First he'll seek out the owner (Hi Majima), but once things are settled and he's allowed to shadow a host, Goro is all too pleased to want to try it himself too. As long as no one he knows comes in here... it'll be fine. Even if he knows he looks good (thanks Majima).

She's touched more top shelf alcohol than most broke college kids have ever seen in their lives, except she's literally too short to reach the top shelf so right now she's just ineffectually reaching above her head, laughs.]

[ Yes, hello, Kiryu is here early again, helping out because he loves Club Sunshine so much. And also because, well, fall is here. He's totally about the Halloween season. ]

iv. forcing matt to have fun

Sometimes, an ambush is the only way to go. It's Friday night and Matt has no excuse for taking a couple hours off for some drinks with his best friend. Especially when the next day is said best friend's birthday. Tatsuo is not afraid of using his birthday as leverage. And the great thing about Uber is he doesn't even have to verbally tell the driver where they're going and can include instructions to not to say what the location is. Because why should he have to tell Matt they're going to the cabaret club? Why?

"Curb at six inches," Tatsuo says as he gets out of the SUV. Already, they can faintly hear the music from inside the club, softly escaping the front door. But it's classy stuff, much more smooth and relaxing than the skull thumping noise playing at the nightclub a few blocks down the street. The great thing about Sunshine is it's meant for conversation, which means the music never gets too loud.
