WHO: mary saotome, yumeko jabami & lelouch lamperouge
WHERE: the recolle U dorms
WHEN: 9/24
WHAT: mary challenges yumeko to a game. it does not end well for mary.
WARNINGS: gambling lesbians
[ mary saotome likes to gamble. this is a fact of life for her; she's smart and an excellent gambler, so when she plays card games, she never loses. it feels like a fail safe--less of a gamble and more of an assured victory. lately, there's been something shaking that up, just a little bit, and it's the memories of this girl, the one in her gened biology class.
mary saw her once in a coffee shop and immediately had a memory. this girl might be mary's only connection to that weird place with the red uniforms, because when she saw her in her memories, she was wearing one too.
(she was betting, with mary. gambling. she's not really sure how she feels about having a partner.)
either way, mary has to test her out. she needs to try and trigger another one of those memories. so, she's seated at a small table in one of the common rooms of the dorm, waiting for her dealer and her test subject to appear and playing on her phone until they arrive.there's a pretty, gold inlaid card and chip box set next to her, and even a couple of drinks.
time to test out this yumeko jabami. mary's gonna find out what makes her tick. ]

so here he is, making sure to show up slightly earlier just so that he has some time to settle in to. he's mostly here to facilitate, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have to keep his wits about him as well.
so, when he slides into the seat opposite mary at that small table, it's with a small wave, just enough to distract her from playing with her phone. ]
So. [ he begins, almost deceptively casual. ] A private game, huh?

[Seeing Mary, Yumeko breaks into a big smile, entering the room completely and giving the two of them a small wave. She's blushing modestly in embarrassment as she sits down across from Mary.]
I'm so sorry for being late! It took me a little longer than I expected to find my way here. I guess I'm still getting used to the campus.
[Yumeko chuckles a little in self-deprecation. She then turns to Lelouch, giving him a polite smile and a hand to shake.]
Hello! I don't believe we've met yet. I'm Yumeko Jabami. What's your name?
no subject
she looks for all the world like a mafia boss, her left leg crossed over her right, a small smile on her face. it's perfectly deceptive, sweet. ] Yumeko, this is Lelouch. He's a friend of mine from high school, and he's going to be dealing for us today.
[ mary will let him introduce himself otherwise. ]
no subject
first impressions wise, she doesn't seem entirely too remarkable. a little... underwhelming, to be honest. but he knows better than anyone that first impressions do lie.
he extends a hand towards yumeko, and the smile on his face is charming, the kind that he's able to turn on in the right kind of social situations. ] A pleasure. I don't actually stay in the dorms - I'm really here just to facilitate this game.
[ no cheating for now, maybe. ]
Speaking of which-- [ he's going to reach over for the card and chip box and take it from mary, retrieving the cards from the box and laying them out on the table. his smile is slightly sharper than previously, mostly because well. this is going to be interesting. ] --shall we begin?
[ he'll wait for one of them to cut the deck before actually shuffling the cards and dealing. ]
no subject
It's very nice to meet you, Lelouch-san.
[She then blinks at him in confusion, turning to Mary and still looking perplexed as the girl confirms what Lelouch just said.]
So is it just the two of us playing then? No one else is coming?
[She turns back to Lelouch.]
Are you sure you don't want to join in? I'd feel awful if you were just sitting there getting bored dealing.
no subject
she smiles and pats the deck of cards on the table once she finishes cutting them, with all the expertise of an expert. ] Don't worry about him, he's here to keep us in line. We can't have anyone cheating, right? It's only fair~
[ says mary, a giant cheater. ] Yumeko said she knew how to play poker, so we can start.
no subject
Can't have a game without a dealer, right? [ it's at this time where he's splitting the chips three ways, keeping one pile for himself to act as the bank, and then smoothly sliding the other two stacks, one to mary and the other to yumeko. ] Watching is also half the fun.
[ and here mary's probably done with cutting the deck, so he's going to pick up the deck of cards and shuffle them expertly. ] Red chips are 5, blue chips are 10, and yellow chips 20.
[ he deals five cards each to them. ]
Place your bets, ladies.
no subject
Well, if you're sure...
[She then turns back to Mary, her expression still quizzical as she watches the blonde cut the deck expertly.]
A read on my skills? Well, it is true that I've played poker before... [She looks down at the five cards dealt to her still face down on the table.] But in the version I played, we only were given two cards, and there were three, four, and then five cards in the middle that everyone could use to make a hand from.
[She turns back to Lelouch as the chips are tallied out to each of them. 20 red chips, 10 blue, 5 yellow -- a total of 250 points for each of them.]
I'm guessing this version is similar? But we each have five cards to ourselves?
[She picks up her hand and looks it over.]
Um, are we allowed to trade cards in for new ones?
breaks tag order for a bit /o/
Five-card draw does allow you to change out as many cards in your hand each time, but for every time you want to change out your hand, you have to up your bet.
And of course, since your opponent can't see any of your cards... [ he lets that trail off into a grin. ]
Would you like to swap out your hand, Yumeko?
no subject
Okay, I think I get it. [She picks up two red chips and delicately places them in the middle. She then slides him two cards face-up, a two and five off-suited.] Did I do that right? Place an initial bet and then trade-in?
no subject
she sets down four red chips and smiles, sweetly, in yumeko's direction. she's almost waiting for something to trigger--her heart's beating so fast in her ears she can almost feel it. ] I'll raise. Let's start easy, okay?
no subject
[Yumeko accepts her two new cards and looks her hand over. Again, her brow crinkles a little as she ponders over the cards.]
Okay then, I'll call!
[Yumeko takes two more red chips and puts them into the middle. She then looks up at Mary and Lelouch expectantly.]
Do we show our hands now?
no subject
Winner gets the whole pool, and we repeat until someone runs out of chips.
[ and when he's satisfied, he'll nod. it's nonchalant, but if the both of them are observing carefully enough, lelouch's posture has shifted slightly to be a tad more alert, like he's watching for something to happen. ] Show your hands, then.
