[closed] i'm too lazy to find a fishing-related song rn
WHO: Aizawa and Zoro
WHERE: ON THE OCEAN PRESUMABLY probably on a rental boat or something
WHEN: 9/16ish
WHAT: Time to learn more about fishing, and maybe also other things?? There's a lot of possibilities here
WARNINGS: A depressingly small number of fish actually caught probably, the real fish are the friendships they're making along the way here ok
[It's been a few weeks since their last conversation, but true to his word Zoro rents a boat, and Aizawa frees up a weekend of his own, and at some point around noon on a sunny Saturday it all culminates in the both of them on the boat, somewhere off the pier of Peach Beach, chairs set up and fishing poles on hand. Honestly...Aizawa would be lying a little to himself, if he claimed he hadn't been looking forward to this once they'd set a date for it earlier in the week. Truth be told he hasn't really...actually relaxed for at least a month and a half now, between the utter disaster that was August and the onset of classes starting to kick off September. There's a lot to organize, a lot to think about. A lot to worry about.
But at least fishing isn't one of those things, as it's turning out, even if Aizawa is still pretty sure he's fairly terrible at it. It was never a hobby he'd even considered until Zoro had come along, really, but Aizawa's glad to have the concept in his life now. It's a slow process, there aren't really any high stakes. He can sleep a lot. It's a nice arrangement.
So overall he's actually in a pretty decent mood today, and remains so as they get on the boat and set off, even if he never outright admits as much. Aizawa is now currently trying to get the bait properly onto the end of his hook, here--he's bound and determined to get it on properly without asking how this time, there's just a certain way you turn the hook right, he can do this surely--but even as deeply as he's concentrating on this, he's recently formed other entirely unrelated questions that need answers immediately.
First and foremost:]
Who even is "Clint Eastwood", anyway? If you're going to insist on calling me that you could at least give me an idea of how offended I should be about it....
[WHY WITH THE COWBOY NICKNAMES ZORO....IT WAS ONE TIME!! WHY WON'T YOU LET IT DIE]

Is it because he doesn't know how to hook bait or because he doesn't know the proper cultural history of America? Probably both.]
How'd you make it over here without knowing about Eastwood? Dirty Harry? Good, the Bad and the Ugly? Fistful of Dollars? [He hooks his bait perfectly by the way.] You can't dress up like a cowboy without knowing about a Fistful of Dollars.

Anyway it's not like Aizawa's much better off for being on the opposite end of the fishing-dress spectrum...which is to say that he arrived for this in a pair of sandals, long black shorts and a thin black sweater with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, because his wardrobe is like 90% boring black sweaters and he also loves skirting dangerously close to heat stroke on warmer days apparently. The fact that he didn't even bring a hat of any kind for this only further supports this theory. At least it's almost fall weather...and he probably put on a bit of suntan lotion beforehand (after learning his lesson the first time around)...
Zoro sure does hook that bait perfectly and Aizawa might be trying not to scowl too obviously at the offensive effortlessness of it. He's still...working on his....partially because he's still not turning the hook quite right, also partially because being suddenly quizzed on cowboy movie trivia is very distracting like this.]
I made it here without knowing any of that by never learning about it. Worked out just fine. [UNTIL NOW APPARENTLY.....] Those--I guess "Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" sounds vaguely familiar, but I thought that was a turn of phrase first? Guess there's a movie by that name too... [Oh my god why won't this bait stay on, also why won't Zoro let him rest!! Aizawa shifts his attention away from the look long enough to frown up at Zoro properly.] Is Fistful of Dollars another movie? Are all of these about cowboy movies? I wasn't even trying to dress up as a cowboy on purpose, you can't try to criticize me like that. [THAT'S RUDE ZORO]

Only a criticism if you take it like that. [SOME PEOPLE WOULD TAKE ALL OF THESE AS COMPLIMENTS.] Good, the Bad and the Ugly is part of a famous trilogy. This film group called spaghetti westerns. Pretty sure it's because a lot of them were made in Italy even though they were about here. Fistful of Dollars is in the same series and, uh...
[fuck. what was the other one?] I forget the third.
The whole thing was a retelling of a Kurosawa movie. Always thought that was cool.
[HOPE YOU'RE READY FOR MOVIE TRIVIA KNOWLEDGE, AIZAWA]

At least he can be mildly offended about cowboys in the meantime, close enough.]
I wasn't aware it could be taken as anything else. [WHERE IN ACCIDENTALLY DRESSING UP AS A COWBOY DESPITE NOT CARING FOR THEM AT ALL DOES A COMPLIMENT COME IN ZORO, SMH] ...But really, most of those weren't actually made in America? That's surprising.
A Kurosawa movie...
[This is more of a thoughtful grumble, half to himself and trailing off for a little bit, as Aizawa wrestles some more with his bait as well as his extremely tenuous knowledge of the film industry in general. He just never has been much for media, even before middle school and especially afterwards...he'd never thought this lack of awareness would ever come back to haunt him either. Until now, apparently.
--Oh. Oh, the bait's on now? It's probably on now. It's hanging a bit awkwardly off the hook at this point, in some sort of bizarre half-knot that is almost definitely not how it ought to be done, but Aizawa will take it at this point. He straightens where he's seated, raising his fishing rod to examine his work properly one more time before actually casting out or anything.]
I'm almost positive I've heard that name before, at least, but you'll have to brush me up on the relevance. ...As you're probably starting to realize now, I've never been much for movies as a whole. [HE WILL NEVER BE READY FOR MORE MOVIE TRIVIA KNOWLEDGE PROBABLY, BUT HERE THEY ARE NOW APPARENTLY....]

You don't know Kurosawa.
[Not even a question. Just skepticism. Who got through life without even hearing that name?! Zoro's not even a huge fan and he's still borderline offended.]
