It seems like someone is manually picking and choosing from a list of every Retrospec user who didn't disappear into the void, and several names queue up. > initialize support team CONFIRMED. The screen clears itself, and instead of the familiar retrospec logo, there is simply TEAM COGNAC as a designation. the application will refuse to show anything other than a map, with one point highlighted in red. it is, of course, up to team members to decide whether or not they approach the access point. Team Cognac's access point is in the Recollé Subway System. Team members will find they can travel further in the subway system so long as they approach it in a group of two or more team members. Only Team Cognac team members can see or enter the subway system sublevels at this time. Please see the Objective 1 toplevel for more information on what they can see when they travel further down the tunnels. This is the Team Cognac Event Log. WEED 3: ROOM 11 (Ami and Mohammed)

[There's no joke or poetry lock on the door to Room 11, so in we go! Inside there's just... shelves and shelves of plants. There's a little extra humidity in the air, along with the fresh smell of assorted greenery.

Ami slowly walks the center aisle, peering down each row as she passes it.]

I guess I can think of weirder places to put a greenhouse.

This isn't a subway. It's a bunker.

[Or a hideaway for illegal plants. Some employees have to be blazing it regularly to come up with new torture for Retrospec users.]

There should be some documents as to what this is for. I'll check this side. [There should be drawers or some information beside the wall. He can steal some of these plants later once he knows what they are.]

It's a test. That's what Maurice told me. All new Retrospec employees have to do it, or something like that. [beat] Jim designed it, though, so stay on your toes.

[She'll just take down this clipboard displayed prominently in the aisle and check it out. Most of it's probably jargon she doesn't understand, but...]

Hey, Mohammed, take a look at this. "The plants prefer stories with happy endings." [She looks up at him, curious.] Are we supposed to talk to them?

Does the test include finding the password and fighting monsters, or does it refer to botany quizzes?

[There are are lot of plants. What, do employees have to understand how to manipulate plant life to remove their colors? Is this a laboratory where they remove the greens and blues?

He stops when she sees Ami read from the clipboard, then glances at a nearby fern.]

I suppose. That, or it's a metaphor. [Or this plants are souls and he doesn't want to think about that.] They could be recording us to see if we'll tell any stories...it doesn't have to be original, does it?

[He has a few ideas if so. Mohammed is not a writer; he can't come up with anything decent on the spot.]

The password and monsters thing, not the botany thing. At least, he didn't mention botany. Maybe there's a botanical component.

[SHRUG. She doesn't have the Retrospec employee handbook handy! Although man wouldn't that be a great thing to have...]

It doesn't say. It's worth a try, though, right? Worst case scenario, plants are weak to fire.

So... [Fairy tales? Fairy tales.]

Um, once upon a time there was a girl whose mother died, and her father remarried. Her stepmother had two daughters of her own, and she didn't like this girl. When her father died, her stepmother forced her to work as a servant for herself and the stepsisters.

[He goes on, basically reciting a summary of the Disney retelling of Cinderella minus the talking animals. As he reaches the end, he decides to add more to make the story happier.]

And the girl married the prince, and her stepmother and stepsisters were left behind in their home. Their neighbors learned how they were treating the girl, and he shunned the family for their misdeeds. The stepmother never recovered from the shame while the girl lived happily ever after.

[He hopes the plants are happy.]

[A minute or two into the story, Ami takes a seat on the floor to listen, watching the purple plants to gauge their reaction. They... don't seem to react at all. But right at "happily ever after," the room itself reacts. Before she even has time to shout a warning or get up, the whole setup has vanished into the walls, becoming nothing more than paintings.

In front of her, on the floor, is an odd coin. She gingerly picks it up, turning it over in her hand to inspect it.]

Well, that did something. What's this?

[He killed them. Or talked them out of existence. Whatever happened, these purple plants are no more, if they weren't an illusion in the first place. He walks over to Ami, leaning down to get a better view of the coin.]

Our prize? [Do Retrospec employees receive trinkets upon completing the training?] Maybe Ronnie knows what it is.
