[Open] Bingo shenanigans + closed prompts

This is a catch-all log for Toshi's Bingo card! Any prompts without a name on them (most of them) are ripe for the picking, and I'm totally okay with doing prompts more than once, so if you have prompts that overlap with Toshi's and want to fill out your own card, let's do it!

[Hang out with a friend of a friend. Okay, that's easy, Shuji knows plenty of people who have friends on here. It's not stalking if it's public information. Can he pick one he won't be too nervous about actually approaching randomly for 'hey can we hang out for bingo'...

After deliberation, he decides on Toshi. He knows he's friends with Chuuya, and he knows he's not as much of an asshole as some people. So he decides sending him a message on Retrospec, at least, would be okay.]

Hey, I was wondering if we could hang out sometime? Partly because of the bingo thing and partly because you just seem pretty cool.

[There, now he doesn't completely sound like a dick for using this as a way to fill out his card.]

[Oh, this is a surprise message, isn't it?]

anytime!! you have to do anything special or is it just "hang out" with someone? we could do something together. knock out more squares!

[Shuji's pretty lucky, Toshi is so easy going about this whole mess and honestly enjoying doing these assorted bingos so much that he wouldn't have been bothered by just about any message out of the blue.]

[Thank goodness it's this easy.]

i've got this one square that's build a sandcastle as tall as myself but with my height i can't pull that off alone

I've got that square too, but I wasn't sure how to do that one. Can you even build a sandcastle that tall? I'm willing to go for it if you are!

i have no idea if we can but it'll sure be fun to try! we can at least get one as tall as you i bet. maybe.

[And that evening Shuji is at the beach. It's a lot more weird in the daytime with a grey ocean and a grey sky, but it's not quite so bad when the sun starts setting.

He hangs around until he spots Toshi arriving, and waves with enthusiasm to get his attention.] Hey!

[Toshi came prepared. Swim trunks, sandals, he left all his other stuff behind, and just came here in what he's got on. He figures building a sand castle is messy business, might as well go swimming after, right?

He waves back at Shuji-- they've only spoken over the network a few times, but Toshi's seen his face around the Inkwell enough to recognize it.]

Hey! I brought us some tools.

[Brightly colored sandcastle building tools he picked up for cheap. Buckets, shovels, those mostly useless buckets shaped like castles themselves.]

I guess I should have mentioned those, woops.

[Shuji has a bucket. And a couple of shovels.

He's also wearing regular, if light, clothes. No swimming for him today.]

What's our battle plan for building a ridiculously tall sand castle?

[Toshi laughs, totally undeterred.]

Good! The more tools the better, right? As for plan...do you think the whole thing has to be out of sand, or can we get away with giving it a center? I think if we built a "foundation" with stones or something, we could make a taller castle....

[That's an excellent question, and Shuji has to think about it for a second.]

I think it would have to be primarily sand, or else it'd be a stone castle with sand on top, but a foundation should be okay. Mainly I'm concerned that the sand won't bond to the stone like it would with other sand, but we could at least give it a try.

Maybe give a small foundation a test run to see how it works out?

[So they don't waste much time if they have to scrap the idea.]

Hmm, good point. I think if we're careful the sand should be okay, though. The important thing is having level ground to work on so it doesn't all fall over!

[Fortunately, this is a beach, and there are all sorts of objects lying around that can be used for a foundation of sorts. Which means the next question is--]

I'm thinking we should build it around here. [About halfway up the beach, that is.] Not too close to the water, so we don't get interrupted by high tide, and not too far, so the sand isn't too dry and won't stick together. Yeah?

Sounds pretty good to me. I haven't made a sandcastle in a while...

[Because he is a grown adult and sandcastles are for kids, obviously.]

But that seems pretty reasonable. Plus it'd be a pain to keep bringing wet sand further up.

Let's get started!

[They're gonna build a sandcastle taller than they are, and probably a lot of failed sandcastles before that.]

Yeah!!

[With a shout of encouragement, Toshi deposits his buckets and shovels and grabs an assortment of driftwood and little rocks and...he probably stole those flat stones from a barbeque up the beach, please don't ask if he did, he's a bad liar.

Step one: attempt to create a flat foundation. Now that they've chosen a spot, Toshi digs out a reasonably flat area.]

Hm. I think if we wanna go tall, we need to have a wide base first....

[Shuji will just not mention the stones at all. He's very discreet.]

It'll be more stable that way. With a big enough base, we could manage five feet, probably.

[There's absolutely no way such non-architects as themselves will make the Sand Leaning Tower of Pisa.]

[Yes, absolutely. They are masters of the sand. Sand masters. With their (utter lack of) skill, they will surely make the greatest, tallest, and most impressive sandcastle the world has ever seen--]

Oops.

[Provided Toshi stops knocking pieces of the foundation off first.]

[Sand guardians, guardians of the sand.]

As long as you don't knock parts off while we have stuff on top of them, I think it's okay...

[This is going to collapse multiple times, isn't it.]

[It's definitely going to collapse multiple times. Toshi's got his little castle shaped bucket packed tightly with damp sand, and he turns it out confidently onto their semi-stable foundation.]

I think we'll be okay. Ready for the first one?

[A few gentle taps here and there, and he very carefully lifts off the bucket to reveal....

Wow, that worked out better than expected.]

Hey, it's kinda cute.

It is pretty cute.

Too bad we're going to ruin that shape trying to get it to be ridiculously tall.

[Retrospec destroys yet another good thing.]

You can't make an omlette without cracking a few eggs!

[Curse Retrospec! Well, that's fine. Toshi mushes the poor little castle into a respectable, if ugly, little wall. Not nearly as pretty, but definitely more practical for their purposes. He sets up another two little castles all ready to be smashed into ugly little walls. They won't be winning any points for style, but so far it's not a bad start.]

That's fair!

[Shuji's getting more into it, too as hes smooshes the little castles into boring walls.]

They don't make castle-shaped buckets big enough for what we're doing.

Hm. Maybe I should have bought one of those big storage tubs... Could fit loads of sand in that.

[but....]

Wouldn't be as cute though.

It didn't say it had to be cute... but if we're doing this anyway, we might as well go for cute.

[Who wants a boring five-foot sandcastle...]

Even if we can't get this thing as tall as it's supposed to be, we can still make it pretty!

[Kashuu would be dubiously proud of him for that statement. Probably. Maybe.]

We can make little flags out of seaweed and stuff like that!

[Oh, oh, he wants to stick on decorative shells!]

We can get some shells, and maybe if we're really good we can carve stuff into the sides without the whole thing falling apart.

[It's going to fall apart.]
