I don't think most people are particularly comfortable with having guns in their possession, so I can't say I blame them for not being gung-ho about accepting your offer.

This place is deceptively empty as well, though obviously you and I know differently, so they may have felt as if there were no need for such precautions. They'll be more than happy to ask for some if they survive any dangerous encounters, I'm sure.
