Right when Baren looks away is when the Spider Slicer reveals its other attack: a red-hot hook arcs through the air aiming right at Baren. Togusa puts up a shield just in time, a hissing clang impacts about a foot away from Baren.

"Yeah, no. I think I'm staying right here."

The other one lobs a hook, too, and instead, Togusa catches it, and spins it around, shooting the projectile right back at the Slicer that threw it. Angry or not, at least he's alert.
