july catch-all/bingo [open]
WHO: Izuku and YOU!
WHERE: Around the city.
WHEN: Throughout July.
WHAT: Bingo and catch-call shenanigans.
WARNINGS: None.
a; get your lemonade
[The warm summer days only seem to be getting warmer and Izuku is willing to use the weather to his advantage. In what feels like the hottest day yet, Izuku sets up an impromptu lemonade stand, outside of his apartment building, consisting of a collapsible table he borrows from his mom, a pitcher of lemonade, a stack of plastic cups, and a hastily written sign advertising: Lemonade $.50/cup. Fanning himself with a paper fan, he diligently calls out to passersby hoping to drawn their attention.]
It sure is a hot day! Wouldn't you like a cup of lemonade?
[His advertising spiel could use some work. He's far better at preparing the lemonade than he is as an attention getter.]
b; wrong number
[Izuku is not much one for making prank calls. In fact, he's not one to make many calls in general, much preferring text to disguise his nerves and the space to think over his response before giving one, two things that verbal communication lack. But the upside to the situation is that he doesn't need to pull any kind of prank, and that he needs to talk to a stranger, someone who he'll likely never have to speak to ever again (or so he thinks).
With that in mind, he picks up his cell phone and punches in a random number. He swallows as it rings, willing himself to not hang up before someone can answer. And then...a voice.]
H-hello! You don't know me...but I need just a few minutes of your time.
c; and for his next act
[Izuku is standing near the display of watermelons in the grocery store; his face clouded with an expression of uncertainty. Should he really do this? Most certainly he's going to have to pay for them afterwards. And he needs at least three to make this work. Three is the best number. Two borders on possibly not being enough, although there hadn't been any guidelines on the bingo card.
...It's possible he's overthinking this.
Glancing around, he checks to make sure no one is watching before grabbing the first water melon. Now...should he throw this one up and try to pick up another while the first is still in the air?
It's worth a try. So up it goes. Up and...to the side.
This is not good.]
Watch out!
d; choose your own adventure
[Here is his bingo card. Go wild. Otherwise you can find him around the Birch Hill Apartments, the library, and the beach.]

[Here is his bingo card. Go wild. Otherwise you can find him around the Birch Hill Apartments, the library, and the beach.]

d (hula hoop contest party)
Not that he plans on actually doing anything here. Maybe brooding in the shade of some umbrella while he watches his sister go swimming.
SURELY NO ONE WILL INTERRUPT HIM LIKE THIS. ]
no subject
It doesn't take long for his scouring of the beach to lead him to James. They've only spoken a few times over the network, but Izuku recognizes him instantly. He feels more comfortable approaching someone he knows a little about rather than a complete stranger.]
E-excuse me. Do you know how to hula hoop? [A strange question for sure, but Izuku isn't going to challenge someone who is a complete novice. That wouldn't be fair.]
a;
...It's about lemonade, as it turns out. He doesn't know what he was expecting. Aizawa draws to a halt in front of it, peering wryly from the cups and pitcher to Izuku himself.]
This is very classic, isn't it? Didn't think selling lemonade was still a thing kids did these days.
no subject
Yeah? Why?
[ Be thankful that hula hooping is one of the many activities the football coach likes to use to work on the team's core strength. Partially for legitimate strength training, and partially because the school only has so much equipment for the students to use--including hula hoops. ]
c
Juggling... watermelons...
Is that coming at him?
Shouto's reflexes are not quite good enough.
It hits him in the leg.]
no subject
Um...it's for my bingo. I have to challenge someone to a hula hoop competition. Will you help me out?
[Maybe he should have led with that.]
no subject
So far there hasn't been much demand.]
I'm sure some kids still do? [None that he's seen.] But this is for my bingo. And I've never done a lemonade stand before. It seemed like fun.
[Setting it up so far was the funnest part.]
Would you like a cup, Mr. Aizawa?
no subject
[He scrambles over to pick up the scattered watermelons. Thankfully none of them exploded on impact, but it's a close thing.
He's in such a panic he doesn't realize who the watermelon hit until he looks up from his crouch on the ground.]
Shouto! A-are you okay?
no subject
... It'll probably bruise at worst. What are you doing?
no subject
He sighs. ]
Alright fine.
[ He gets up and steps off from his towel, beckoning for Izuku to hand him a hula hoop. ]
What're the terms of this competition, exactly?
no subject
I was thinking we could compete to see who can keep their hula hoop spinning the longest without dropping it. Waist, neck, and knees, if you can manage it, are all okay spots to spin from and it's okay to move back and forth. But if it leaves the body or hits the ground then that person is out.
no subject
[And he's going to drop the watermelons back into their display and urge Shouto towards the first aid aisle.]
I-I was doing it for my bingo. [Which sounds like a lame excuse as he says it.]
no subject
... Are you okay? Watermelons are very heavy. You could've hurt yourself.
d
that's why he's knocking on izuku's apartment door. he's not sure exactly how to do this particular square, the wish granting one, but he's hoping izuku will have some sort of idea. ]
no subject
Guess there's no reason to change an old business model if it still works. ...Sure, since you're asking so politely. Got any change for a dollar?
[He settles his weight back on his heels, reaching for one of his pockets and the wallet there.]
...Your "bingo", you said?
no subject
[ THIS IS IMPORTANT. ]
no subject
But who's going to keep track of points for us?
no subject
Ah-yes! [So far Aizawa is his only customer so Izuku digs into his pocket, pulling out a thin wallet, and from it extracting two quarters that he slides across the table. With that done, he pushes down on the spout and fills up a cup with lemonade, which he also slides over.]
Yeah. The bingo that Retrospect assigned me. A lot of people got one. Didn't you, Mr. Aizawa?
no subject
Karkat! I didn't know you were coming over. Did we make plans today?
[He's almost sure they didn't.]
no subject
[He surveys a rack of packaged ice packs, each one a different size, and shape.]
And my bingo said watermelons specifically so it's not like I could try with something else.
[He points at the ice packs.]
Which one do you think would work best for you?
no subject
[ he's so rude. he glances around izuku, as if checking to see if anyone else is home. ]
I'm granting you a wish today.
no subject
But at least a lemonade stand's pretty innocuous, in the grand scheme. Mostly. The quarters are traded in for a dollar from his own wallet, and Aizawa accepts the lemonade glass accordingly. ...Yeah, this sure does taste like normal lemonade. Pretty good. The next time he gets juice pouches he should keep an eye out for lemonade flavor, clearly.
--Not important right now, though. Izuku answers, and Aizawa tilts his head slightly as the implications are confirmed.]
No, I didn't. Seems like I'm one of the lucky few, though. There's been a lot of bingo all over the place. ...I wasn't aware you were part of this Retrospec business too.
no subject
A wish? But it's not my birthday.
[He does notice Karkat glance around inside though.]
Do you want to come in? My mom is at the grocery store right now so it's just me at home right now.
no subject
[He'll look at the ice packs for a moment. It's nice that Izuku's offering but...]
I can get some ice at home. It's not that far from here.
no subject
[ he will accept the offer and go inside, mostly since this is a weird conversation to have when people can overhear it. or, at least karkat thinks it's weird. it'll mostly be weird depending on how izuku answers. ]
It's for bingo. I have to grant a friend's wish.

People's expressions give away bad lemonade pretty quickly.]
Yeah, I've been using the app since it launched. [Which is not recommending as it sounds since everyone has been forced to use it.]
But you didn't get a bingo? I thought it went out to all app users.
no subject
Are you sure? It's not too painful?
no subject
Oh. For the bingo? Alright...so I just have to ask you do do something?
no subject
I promise I'm fine, Izuku. Don't worry about it.
no subject
Okay. If you're sure.
no subject
[ karkat says, as if he wouldn't deny a bunch of options if he doesn't like them. ]
no subject
Ah! [He suddenly smiles.]
I wish that you would stay and watch a movie marathon with me.
[He remembers when he met Karkat at the theater that one time. And his preference of genre.]
no subject
Seriously? Yeah, sure.
[ that's actually enjoyable for them both. ]
no subject
[He points to the room to the left with an open archway.]
You can go pick something out if you want while I get us drinks.
Do you like tea?
no subject
[ he's already wandering over to where izuku pointed at because he has zero tact. once there, karkat will thumb through the selections. ]
no subject
Have you chosen anything yet?
no subject
Let's do this one, it's been a while since I've seen it.
no subject
[He takes the disc out of the case and places it into the player before settling again on the couch besides Karkat.]
I-I'm glad we're doing this. It's been awhile since we've hung out.
no subject
[ and then there's the other general weirdness that takes up their time too. ]
no subject
[He's met some new people through it anyways. Retrospect lives up to being good at bringing people together at least.]
no subject
[ he doesn't want to give the company a compliment. ]
