[Cleo has made a mistake. Cleo has made many, many mistakes, and she's worried this might be her last. She holds on for dear life at first, thinking surely the monster must be surfacing soon... But then it doesn't. And her lungs start to burn, but she doesn't know what to do, and she can't swim.
She opens her eyes, ignoring the stinging pain in the one eye that works to see the pilings of the pier. And then, she flips around, using Thanatos himself as a springboard, kicking off as hard as she can to flail her way at the wooden pillar, grabbing hold to try to climb it and hoist herself above the water's surface.
It's slippery, and hard, and she doesn't know if she can make it. But she's open now, vulnerable, and running out of air and time.]
