[Lucy didn't look back; she trusted Souji to follow, and was rewarded with the sound of a second pair of footsteps, and the noise of ice freezing where there was none before. Fire--or walls--didn't seem to bother the shadows much, so she didn't have much faith in ice either. But it was enough, for now. There weren't any cold, shadowy claws grabbing at Lucy's heels and Souji was still following her down the hallway.
There, an exit--its doors had long been torn off its hinges, but it opened out into the snow-covered ground outside.
Except Lucy didn't go for it. She darted to the side, a vector dragging Souji with her into what might have once been an office. More vectors lash out, grabbing onto a long-empty filing cabinet. Its shelves and drawers rattled horribly as it was lifted up and thrown out of the door, sailing noisily until it clattered against an ice-covered rock. It bounced, landed in the muffling snow--and teetered precariously at the cliff's edge. Just a little more force, and it would fall--sending the creatures chasing the sound down the cliff too.
But it was far outside Lucy's range now, and she didn't know how far the shadows were behind them.]
