When the fire appeared from the wolf's back again, Lucy squinted. There seemed to be something there, but she couldn't quite make out what it was. There seemed to be red stripes curling away from whatever it was--and it was gone a blink later. ]

[Lucy took the stick! And now it was much easier to see things; a vector curled its spectral fingers around the new torch so her physical hands were free. She gathered up branches and old bits of plank, adding the sticks the wolf brought to the pile. She didn't know that much about starting fires, but from the fragments she could recall the small sticks went on the bottom. Lucy picked somewhere a bit further back into the cave to build the fire, away from the ice. The heat probably wouldn't melt that much ice from so far away, but Lucy didn't particularly feel like dealing with ice falling on her head too.
After Lucy had put together what looked like a decent pile, she paused. She didn't have a lighter or anything on her, and her powers didn't start fires. That wolf, on the other hand...
