[ At that next part, Gladio pauses a moment. There's a glint in his eyes at the way his mother would have responded, and then... there's a chuckle. It's as he listens to those words, he does manage to relax the tiniest bit, even managing to finish the tea off. Maybe some part of it is because that all sounds so familiar, but the biggest part has to do with the shift in their discussion.

With the focus being taken off of their reasons for being here, it almost feels like a normal conversation that would take place somewhere other than a hospital. It's after the other young man finishes speaking, he nods. ]

Well, hey... that question says "no one" and not "nothing." Some forest creatures can hear even better than humans. [ His expression hopefully proves he's just trying to lighten the mood, here. ] She actually sounds like someone my dad would have gotten along with. He was the kind of guy who put a lot of focus on what books said and what could be proven through numbers, waves, and equations.

[ Even though the last word is said with an air of exasperation, there's a small smile of fondness. For just a moment, he's not paying every bit of attention to what's coming out of his mouth. He lets something slip. ] Guess that's why he worked so well with mom. Where he was the book worm, she was the dreamer of the relationship. He kept her grounded, while she kept him seeing things from a different angle.

[ The soft blink holds a bit of surprise, as though he's just realizing he said even that much. With a clearing of his throat, he lowers the empty cup to his lap. While casting a curious glance to Ryoji, his expression softens ever-so-slightly. ] Are you guys from around here?
