is a little unusual, maybe, to see someone so pierced up (three in one ear, two in another) getting down and dirty with flowers. he's got his shirt off cause of the hot weather, showing off the tattoo he's got on his left shoulder blade too, but apparently he doesn't mind doing this kind of work? because he's singing to himself while he does it, dark hair in a tiny ponytail at the back of his head.

when he notices someone's shadow, though, he'll wave a dirtied hand at them.]

[today leo's got any kind of animal, really, following him around; maybe it's a back of smaller wildcats, maybe it's a few monkeys, some birds flying about, but the thing he's doing to make them come so obediently is

he's pied pipering them, essentially, with a more acoustic guitar strapped around him as he strums gentle melodies and walks backwards. please don't let him walk into you? that would be terrible? but also: they're still very much not domesticated animals, so chances are high that they'll get distracted by someone new and want to see what they're about as well.]

[as leo does, he's dragging kuro into something irresponsible, illegal, and idiotic.

of course he's gonna steal from the rich. that's what punk is, taking from authorities and big businesses and then giving to those in need. besides, it's fun, and leo'd threatened to do it on his own otherwise, give his best friend an ulcer thinking about the worst case scenarios he can get wrapped up in.

so they're strolling through... it's not actually the richer side of town, kuro, in fact it's pretty fucking familiar? it's very much leo's old neighborhood, the area where the suzakura stay.]

It'll be just like old times. ♪ I can't wait, with no one around like this it makes it twice as easy to take anything we want. ♪

[ summer is a time for lesson planning for a still newly minted teacher, and for nazuna, that means just a little less work than usual. there's still plenty to be done: his and leo's apartment needs to be unpacked, they need dishes and nazuna needs new bedsheets, and he should probably get a summer job, and. there's that whole thing about being unable to see or contact a single person who wasn't on retrospec in the city.

nazuna's tried his phone probably a hundred times since then. he calls his parents at least twice a week, and the disconnect from his siblings (from his mom, who's about to have a baby) is making him really, really anxious. it's why he's buried himself so deeply in his work, and he's listening to leo play something on the keyboard while he's writing, then lifts his head to look at him from where he's sitting on the floor, surrounded by papers. ]

Leochin... that sounds like, mm. [ he sets his pen down and holds out his hands. ] Here, come here.

[it doesn't bother him so much. there's a couple of friends he can't get in touch with, outside of tsukasa he doesn't... talk to his family, even if he'd like to see baba again -- but it doesn't hit him the way it does nazuna, letting music idly wash over the room as his friend busies himself with work in clear distraction.

he's practically jumping at the chance to get nazuna away from this too, though, and lets the notes fade out, tilting his head a bit as he comes to sit in front of nazuna, brushing papers out of the way before just

taking nazuna's hands, i'm sorry, they are holding hands now.]

Here, here~. ♪ Wanna take a break already? I can get you something to eat if you need it, or a drink?

[ as is typical, nazuna pinkens with the easy physical contact, but he did sort of ask for it. he shakes his head, pushing down the initial feeling of guilt (maybe he wasn't working hard enough?) and keeps a hold of them for a second longer, grip loose as he flashes him a smile. ]

Mm, I'm okay. That just... [ with a tilt of his head. ] You didn't notice? It sounded like Miss Mary Mack.

[ Kuro is dead certain he already has an ulcer, and that it has a wahahaha! laugh, and that he should name it Leo.

The moment that Leo had threatened to do it alone, he'd felt that ulcer increase in size. He doesn't even really need to think of worse case scenarios - he's experienced plenty of them on his own, nevermind with Leo's version of shenanigans. So he immediately signs up to go with him, and, well, here they are, unfortunately.

He squints at the neighborhood suspiciously. Then, he turns that squint down to Leo, more of a stinkeye. ]

And what is it that you're gonna be wantin' here, huh? [ At least they have the skillset for this, he guesses. ]

Just a few things from good ol' Mom and Dad. [though of course, when he says it, there's little love in the tone. nonchalant, easy.] Seems like they've kept this and that stuffed away, you know? I'd like to take what's mine... and a couple of things they can't replace.

[he'd like to smash the place up, but

baba lives there. tsukasa lives there. if it was just the parents he resented so much, maybe, and even then he probably wouldn't feel great about it.]

Oh, yeah?

[... the melody's gone from his mind, but he reaches up with one hand to dance it across the keys again; it does sort of sound like that thing, huh, the little hand game that kids in the park played... mmm.]

I was just playing around a bit, [settling back down to lean on his hands, shrugging.] It's one of those-- those hand things, right? Like when you hold out your palms and try to move before your opponent slaps them with the force of a billion tons.

[ There's some silence for a long moment, though he doesn't break away from where they're walking. Kuro slides his hands into his pockets and sighs heavily on an inhale, rolling his shoulders, his neck, as he regards the neighborhood. He wasn't here a lot, but often enough that he could point out certain houses and remember who lived there, what he and Leo got up to here.

A couple of things they can't replace.

If he knew where his old man was, then he'd probably have the same reaction.

With a gusty exhale to match the inhale, he scuffs the toe of his boot into the ground. ]

Let's go. I'll keep you from doin' anythin' you regret, yeah?

....not like that. What kind of games were you playing...

[ as usual, leo does nazuna some form of a concern, but. he pulls his hands away from leo's and claps his hands together. ] I usually teach my kindergarteners how to play it at the beginning of the year, because it's good for fine motor skills. You've really never played?

Nope. Didn't really have that sort of a childhood, see, but I know how to do cat's cradle and omochio tsukimasho.

[... which is actually p much the same thing as Miss Mary Mack!!!! in terms of what it's used for, anyway. leo reaches for nazuna's hands again, though he's careful to just lift them up and down a little childishly, just that and not hold them like he wants to.]

Teach me, teach me~. I'll play it with your kids when you're busy relaxing. ♪

Thanks~. But I won't regret a single thing I do, you know? That's just not the way I live.

[he regrets plenty. kuro knows that, he knows that, but it's better to just brush it off than let it linger; lingering just leads to staring down bottles and climbing into the first bed that takes him, hands searching for warmth and distracting comfort.

leo leads on, though, chatting happily.]

Tsuka told me things've changed here -- there's a house across the street from his that has two new additions to their family, even if the girl they've got is still a brat... The old couple that used to leave out food for the stray cats moved out, the house next door has a new koi pond -- I wanna feed 'em too, so we can grab something for that too while we're around. But otherwise it's pretty much the same place I recognize.

Weird, huh? How things don't change that much.

[ omochio tsukimasho... sounds like something his grandmother might have used to play, maybe? who knows.

but! miss mary mack, he can definitely teach. so, nazuna shifts so he's sitting cross legged, and you can see something light up in his eyes the very second he starts, like this is his element. ]

So it goes... Miss... ♪ Ma...♪ Ry... ♪ [ it's singsong and sweet, his singing voice coming out without any of the usual stress, and he claps his hands together, then holds one out for leo to hit, then the other, going nice and slow. ] Mack, Mack, Mack ~ ♪

Easy?

[leo follow the instructions without question, without complaint, smile warming slightly at nazuna's singing; it's pretty normally, but especially without the stress and nerves it lights something gentle and warm in his chest, that same yearning to create a song that nazuna can't help but to sing.

maybe he'll try that this month, as a thank you gift.]

Mm~hmm! Got it~. Faster, faster, we'll do it 'til our arms tire~ ♪

[it's easy to learn, after all, he's got it!!!]

[maybe sena's still mad at him, maybe they're cool now, leo doesn't know; regardless, he's still seeking sena out, peeking here and there until he finds him--

until he does, waving his arms widely.]

Mit~zy! Mitzy, Mitzy~! You're not busy anymore, are you~? Let's sing together. ♪

[since he's not busy anymore they can hang out..♪]

[ h-how did leo find him so easily? this is a little freaky?? ]

You don't get to decide whether I'm busy today or not. I have work to do.

[he knows every in and out of the city

also there's like, no people to hide him. ♪]

Like what? Let me help so you can be done quicker and we can play. ♪ There's a task I think's perfect for us -- well, I wanna do it with you, anyway!

[... to be honest, this excitable side of him's probably the closest to his other self, and of course it's over music.]

I meant my job, but I... never mind.

[ no use bluffing his way out of this one. this leo's eagerness towards music really does remind sena of the other leos he'd met, and that made him lower his guard for a moment. ]

Do a performance right now? Did you even bring an instrument?

I can pick one up, it's fine. I'm used to doing covers, so I've got a pre~tty wide knowledge of some good ones that'll fit you... Mmm, do you like singing in English or Japanese more?

[because either is fine with him, though he tends towards mother tongue more himself. he's got his phone out and he's rolling through it to find the one he was thinking of.]

Oh, if it's a performance, we need an audience too..♪ Do you wanna call some friends? Or do you wanna sing for the cats? Tell me, tell me~. ♪

I can do both, but it's been a while since I've sang something in Japanese...

[ so maybe that one? leo suggesting that they'll do covers first surprises sena a little, but he decides not to press the issue for now. ]

Mm, I'm sure the others are still busy with their tasks, so I guess the cats will have to do. I wanted to check up on them anyway.

[ especially his little gray baby!! lead the way. ]

[!!!!!!! he gets to hear sena sing, and he gets to see sena with cats..♪ two good things. three, because sena's attitude is just the usual sort, which helps him relax a little.]

They're doing fine, by the way..♪ A lot of the younger ones got adopted, but a few older ones did too! They're adjusting to being spoiled, or so they tell me when they visit.

[... maybe he can literally talk to the cats, maybe he's just guessing based on their attitudes; either way, he leads sena along, notably not diving down any alleys and the like. just a normal walk to behind the wiffle-waffle, which has probably been painted every shade but its original blue because #fuckretrospec.

look at all of 'em. there's a little dark one that meows as soon as it sees leo, running up excitedly to paw at him until its picked up, and sena's grey baby lifts its head to yawn.]

[ nazuna teaches the second part just as easily, by rote. ] Then it goes thighs, cross, clap.. and you do it again. So, thighs, [ he bops both of his hands gently against leo's upper thighs ] Cross, [ both of his shoulders so their hands cross over ] and [ he takes both of leo's hands so his are on the outsides, and claps them together. ] Clap!

[ this... has a slightly different connotation with leo than it does with a kindergartener, but. hm. nazuna's going to ignore it, as he goes to sit back down across from him and stars from where they left off. ] Allll, dressed in, black ♪, black ♪, black ♪! ~

[ who knows if this actually counts as a "skill"... but it's kind of fun. nazuna's definitely enjoying himself, singing the little rhyme as they complete the first circuit of all the movements. ] With silver buttons ♪ buttons ♪ buttons ♪ all down her back ♪ back ♪ back ♪!

[ not ducking into shady alleyways is a smart move, even if no randos are going to attack them in this city's state. they get to the back of the waffle place, the cats stirring from their nap as they recognize leo's figure and comes to ambush him immediately.

only sena's little grey cat is left, yawning cutely, and sena walks over to gently pick it up and give it a little kiss on the forehead. ♪ shh, there there, he's here now with that gentle look on his face that always pops up whenever he's surrounded by the lot of them. ]

Have they been fed yet?

They've probably fed themselves by now, honestly... but they'd never say no to some more treats.

[so sena's free to do as he pleases, nuzzling the little one he's got in his arms before setting it down with the others.]

I'll pick some food from the ripoff Waffle House here if you wanna exercise your voice a bit, won't take too long. ♪ Tsuka-tan, do you want to come with me?

[meow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which is so commanding and self assured it has him chuckling, taking a last look at the gentle expression on sena's face before going over to the... supposedly locked back entrance, which he's working at with the small cat trailing behind.]

[he follows it easily, letting nazuna do the singing since he doesn't actually know the words himself, and once he finishes the first verse he's cutting in.]

She met a man ♪, man ♪, man ♪, who had a plan ♪, plan ♪, plan ♪, to kill a dragon ♪, dragon ♪, dragon ♪, and rule the land ♪, land ♪, land ♪!

[ ...well, okay. that startles a little giggle out of nazuna, and he hits their hands again to try and add his own. ]

Uh--He climbed so high♪, high♪, high♪, to a tower in♪ the♪ sky♪, to make her his bride♪, bride♪, bride♪!

[ it's a little slapdash, because he's no leo, but it's not nothing! at least it rhymed... ]
