[CLOSED] MOVIE NIGHT!
WHO:Derek Matthews and Alex Cumore
WHERE: Alex's Mansion
WHEN: March 24-25, 2018
WHAT: Derek introduces Alex to Firefly
WARNINGS: none? Lots of drinking?

Derek had been looking forward to this all week. He definately felt that this needed to become a tradition, just hang out with pretty much his best friend, drinking, and watching Sci fi movies or tv shows. What could possibly be better than that? Nothing. Nothing is better than that. And in preparation for this, in the morning he prepared some movie snacks to pig out on with Alex. Why was Derek making such a big deal about this? Because today was the day that Derek introduced Alex to Firefly. Not only was he sure that Alex would like Mal, but would like the premis too: smuglers that occassionally do the right thing while also on the run from the government. Who wouldn't like that?
When Derek drives up to Alex's house he grabs his small duffle bag, a plastic bag filled with his home made movie snacks, and the pack of beer. Yes he knew Alex had an open bar, but Derek felt like he should contribute some of the alcohol.
Derek rings Alex's doorbell and waits.

Well, come in, then, don't just stand there - and don't mind the weaponry, I haven't quite decided what I'm doing with it yet.
[...What he means by "the weaponry" is likely evident by a glance at the dining room as it's passed, the table has just. so many swords on it. It's a lot of swords? Like, why does any one person need this many damn swords.
Anyway.]
I just got in from seeing some of those places outside the city, it was a good departure from the usual... I imagine your week has at least been acceptable.
[He's kind of talking a lot, but that's probably an indication that things are pretty well with him, all things considered.]

[Derek's eyebrows raise in surprise at first and then his eyes widen when he sees all the swords on the dining room table?]
Bloody hell, where did all those come from? Retrospec?
[Derek continue to follow Alex and listen to him talk. He is indeed talking more than usual, but that's OK. He seems to be in a good mood and Derek can roll with that. He's in a good mood himself.
What area did you visit? And it's been fine, really busy. The case involving Mastuoka's son's murder has been pretty time consuming, processing the evidence and all.

[Like, really, they can't do shit until they're appointed to do shit.]
That said, though, I spent time around Pesgare and Respatrum - the latter would be where all the weapons came from, they make some rather lovely ones out there. One of them is going to be for my personal use, while the others...well, as I said, I haven't decided yet. The one I've singled out for myself is far lighter than the one Retrospec sent to me, though, it's something more suited to me - I have no idea how I made it look so easy in my memories.

[Derek follows Cumore into the room where the bar and TV is.]
By the way, I had some extra time today, so I made snacks.
[Derek sets the bag of food on the bar and starts pulling out various containers filled with the snacks he made.]
no subject
...That said, good lord.]
You certainly didn't go halfway tonight, did you.

Of course not! This is an auspicious day! You, my friend, are being introduce to Firefly, Joss Whedon's masterpiece that the network decided to ax only after one season. Such a day as this calls for movie snacks. I have seasoned garbanzo beans, salted edamame, chocolate dipped potato chips, and chocolate stuffed raspberries. A plethora of salty and sweat with a bit of spice.
[Derek picks up the container that holds the raspberries and holds it out to Alex.]
Try one.
no subject
Dare I ask why such a masterpiece was axed after one season...?
[He will take one of those raspberries, though, they look good? So. Yes.]
no subject
[Derek reaches into his bag and pulls out the DVD case.]
Shall we?
no subject
Yes, of course.
[He'll take that and get it set up, then, if you'd like.]
no subject
Beer?
no subject
[Like, sure, he's got an open bar right there, but this is nice in some odd sort of way.]</small.
no subject
[And don't worry Alex, you guys will get to that open bar eventually. The night is young.
Derek sets two bears on the coffee table and then opens the other three containers of food.]
Now, I know baked garbanzo beans sounds a bit strange, but I promise, they taste amazing.
no subject
[He can think of worse things? But still. Kinda weird.]
no subject
They throw you right in without much explanation, so you need to pay attention.
[Derek reaches for his drink and pops it open.
no subject
[He'll come sit down, though, and he's okay with the sudden start; he can follow easily enough, he's not terribly concerned about that much.]
no subject
The best way to explain the beginning is to ask yourself what would happen if the Empire in Star Wars actually wins? And then you pretty much have the beginning.
[Derek then leans back and continues to watch. He'll let Alex take some time to start digesting that.]
