a. DOG WALKING (ota)
[ since korra and olivia have left for their mission, dia has been more stressed than usual. from worrying about her friends who've been picked for the cause, to stressing over school and retrospec, she's finding that things are A Lot right now, and there's a pit in her stomach that won't go away. she's overworked to the bone and hasn't been getting much sleep, and it shows in how dark the circles under her eyes are and how pale her face looks.

but...nevertheless, she's out on the streets during late afternoon hours after classes are over, heart stone in her pocket, walking a very happy doggo while holding a disgruntled kitty in her hands. she is struggling. nimbus, the dog, is constantly trying to run ahead of her, dragging dia and behemoth--the cat--around in circles. ]

Nimbus! Calm down, will you?!

[ it's very clear that dia does not know how to work with animals... some help would be appreciated. ]

b. FAINT OF HEART (for maki), feb 16th
[ it's 4pm, and dia's in the school library carrying a stack of books. she's tired, exhausted, and clearly isn't paying attention to where she's going.

it's almost fate, that she would run into maki head-on and stumble backwards while her books go falling down onto the floor. dia yelps in surprise and a little bit of pain; she rubs her back, having fallen onto her butt, and groans a bit before getting up and gathering her books. ]

I'm so sorry, I didn't see you--

[ dia finally glances up at the stranger she'd run into, and her eyes go wide. out of all people... ]

c. RECOVERY (ota), feb 17th
( ooc: this prompt takes places after maki's prompt, in which dia will pass out from exhaustion and maki will take her to the hospital. it'll be a short stay, so there's no need for visitors!)

[ at around 9am the next day, dia can be seen exiting the local hospital. she looks better, and the color's been restored to her face. but she's not entirely okay. she looks upset, disturbed by something as she stops in front of the entrance. she stands there for a moment and just...

inhales.

she takes in the winter air and exhales, deeply. she turns to her left and...starts walking.

though...she's got the hospital band around her wrist, still. huh. how'd that get there...? she can be spotted in the tribunal terrace, and anyone who passes by her will be affected by her heartstone and feel stress, exhaustion, and overall moodiness. ]

[Shiori knows people will take their cats on walks. That is not how you take a cat on a walk. That poor, poor cat looks miserable, and maybe so does that girl carrying it.

It might be dumb to do, but he'll get right in the dogs way, raising his hands. Will startling the pupper work get it to halt?]

Stop!

[ Well that sure hurts, Maki stumbles back as well, a bit too frazzled to be outwardly upset. ]

No it's fine, I wasn't paying attention and--

[ It's not until she's on the floor, scrambling to pick up the contents of her bag (which had spilled out during the collision) that she realizes just who she's bumped into.

Her demeanor changes quite a bit. ]

Do you not have eyes? Watch where you're going.

[ that is not how you do anything, really--

but the dog does, indeed, halt. and then...nimbus starts barking at the newcomer before he pounces onto shiori, tail wagging behind her. ]

Nimbus, stop it!

[ THIS IS SO STRESSFUL....but as dia tries to tug her away, she looks up at the boy and her eyes widen, just a little. ]

Ah, you're--you're from that one time--!

[ of course she'd react like that. dia huffs, turns her head away, clearly embarrassed but also too stubborn to offer an appropriate apology. ]

I already said I was sorry, didn't I?

[ but her voice lacks the same vigor she had during laser tag. dia doesn't have the time or energy to put up a proper fight against maki. not today.

today, she just walks past her and drops her books onto the nearest table, pulls out a seat, and promptly sits down. ]

[Okay. Dog is stopped. Not how it was supposed to happen, but a happy dog is better than mad. Shiori can't contain a laugh as he's pounced, ruffling the fluffy white fur and smiling at the dog.]

Hey, I'm happy to meet you too.

[See, Dia? You don't need to tug. He's okay with puppy love. He stops when he notices who the "owner" was.]

Vine girl!

[ Wow that's kind of spooky.

Dia? Not antagonizing her? The whole thing gives her chills frankly.

[ Maki shuffles awkwardly like a child waiting to get a good scolding. She approaches Dia hesitantly, fidgeting with a strand of her hair (it's a nervous tic) ]

Are you feeling okay..? It's a serious question.

[ around an hour or so since dia's release from the hospital, she decides that she's had enough of wandering around and trying to come to terms with what's been going on. she wants to go home.

or somewhere close, anyway.

she pulls out her phone and sends a text natalia's way: ]

Natalia, it's Dia.
Are you free right now?
I need a ride from somewhere, if you don't mind. You can drop me off at my house.

[ . . . Huh? ]

No, I can be free.
What's going on, where am I going?

[ dog is stopped, and loving shiori like crazy. dia just sighs, practically gives up...at least nimbus isn't running around anymore? behemoth keeps meowing, too. what a chaotic scene.

it's made even worse when shiori calls her vine girl. ]

It's Dia. Dia Kurosawa.

[ she's trying to hide her irritation, but it comes out in her tone, unfortunately. ]

[ maki...asking her if she's okay?

what is happening. what are these girls doing

but dia doesn't question it. instead, she tiredly looks up at her and...scratches her mole. also a nervous tic, and one that makes dia a horrible, horrible liar. ]

Of course I am. What makes you say that...?

[Shiori is soaking up all the love because who could say no to a sweet baby like this???? Till he hears the meowing and has to go rescue the cat.]

Dia? Okay. Well, Dia, you're not holding that cat right. It doesn't feel secure when you're carrying it like a teddy bear!

[Just going to come over and take the beast and show how to carry it properly.] If you're gonna carry a cat while walking, support the legs in a way where it can comfortably sit and move around. Or get a harness and let it walk, too.

[Will the kitty appreciate being loved on after proper handling?]

[ And she will! She just got out of a class honestly, so she's a little frazzled and hasn't had a meal in a while, but she does go to her car and drive on over to pick Dia up, diligently. ]

[ behemoth gives a few mews but he doesn't look as disgruntled. good job, shiori! ]

So... [ she'll hold out her hands and try to take him back and hold him properly, then! ]

[Cats are his passion other than writing, so of course a cats comfort is first and foremost. He nods and hands Behemoth back.]

A trick I learned from my brother about dogs is that when they start pulling, you stop walking. That'll teach them that you're in charge, and they'll stop pulling.

[ dia waits right outside of the building, sitting down on a bench at the front, head hanging low as if she were dozing off. though when natalia pulls up, dia lifts her head and walks over to the car, getting into the passenger's seat.

[ Yeah that's... I mean, Natalia was in the hospital the other day too she has stitches on her left shoulder. It's not visible given her coat and all, but she looks surprised at Dia's overall appearance for a moment. ]

[Usopp still preferred walking to places than taking public transit. He was never in a great hurry, being unemployed and not in school so he didn't have a strict schedule to stick to so he could afford to wander the city, look for new, interesting things, or just to stretch his legs after spending a day sitting and drawing or playing video games.

He was heading out early to go to Sanji's place to feed and play with his cat for a bit, and the route that day was having him pass in front of the hospital.

And that's when he saw a familiar face.]

Ah! Dia, hey!

[He waves a little.]

Well, first of all, you look awful.

[ Maki leans over just a bit, so she can get eye level with her ]

Second of all, it's not like you to not put up a fight. Obviously somethings wrong with you today.

[ this is useful! dia nods enthusiastically and does her best to commit this information to memory. ]

I see. These aren't my pets, so as you can see, I'm a bit inexperienced... But any advice is appreciated!

[ Dia isn't the only one out walking animals. Kiyoshi is on a walk with his own doggo and his cats. The cats are pretty used to the dog's energy and happiness.

But now Hestia is dragging Kiyoshi along toward this other dog to say hello. Particularly Radish is not interested in that. ]

[ she'd been zoning out. thinking about how this should be taken as a lesson to not overwork herself to the brink of death (well. not quite but close enough) again. instead, she's being hard on herself, beating herself up for letting things get to this point. the lesson will come later. for now...

[ as far as dia can tell, behemoth just lazes around all day indoors. ]

[ she laughs, pointing at Dia's arm tag from the hospital... ]

[ those are very adorable animals.... when hestia says hello to nimbus, nimbus goes wild, barking and wagging his tail; meanwhile, dia is holding onto a very unhappy behemoth and needs a moment to catch her breath before she replies. ]

Ah--yes, I'm alright! I'm so sorry for him--Nimbus, stop it!

Whoa, whoa, hey there!

[ Laughing and incredulous at once, Megumi will lean over and hold her hands out for Nimbus(?) to come to her. She'll try to calm the dog down instead of just getting out of the way of a situation that looks like it could become a disaster soon...!

Megumi will give Dia a crooked smile, one that's faintly concerned. ]

Are you alright?

Oh they're just saying hi. [ As is obvious by the butt sniffing. ] It'll give you a chance to catch your breath and for your other friend to calm down a bit too. [ Kiyoshi completely ignores that there is a tail in his face. ]

Just open a window next time... that's an indoor cat.

[That's what cats are supposed to do, Dia.]

[He stops in front of her and cocks his head aside, glancing at her lackluster then quickly at the hospital. Granted, he only really met her once but she had been a bit more energetic.

Crap, does she have the flu, if he takes a step back would she notice?? Would that be insulting??]
