[ It's a strange dissonance. Daisuke has been so used to his dreams making him feel so meta by being self-aware in them. He's seen other people being self-aware in their own dreams/nightmares, so it confuses him to see that Akira... isn't. Maybe this is his own dream? He thinks that he's better off not being so self-aware so that the dream can play out nicely, but that isn't what's happening here.
