[Closed] Welcome to Hell
WHO: Ayano & Malik
WHERE: Detention @ Recolle High
WHEN: 9/18
WHAT: One never does her homework, the other always cuts class! The fated meeting of juvenille disciplinary action finally arrives!
WARNINGS: Malik is here so
My name is Ayano Tateyama and I do not deserve this cruel and unusual punishment!
[Ayano loudly proclaims before falling backwards into her assigned seat, immediately lolling her head back like she’s just been shot. She hasn’t been. Eventually, when she musters up the energy, she swivels her head around the room. It’s a familiar one: Detention. The assigned teacher shuffles in and out of the room--probably working on something way more important than making sure the bad kids aren’t getting any badder. Still, those pesky sign in and sign out sheets mean that she can't just leave, or make a break for it, or go get some cheetos. Which is why she brought her own bag of cheetos. Which she has already eaten. Oops.
After a few minutes of boredly tapping her pencil against her forehead, she starts the audible whining.]
Goddddddd, I didn't even know there was homework, it's only the third week!
[She kicks her feet a bit, continuing to protest despite being completely alone in the detention room.]
I am a prisoner of war...

I am a prisoner of war...

No. Not this. It's was already bad enough being caught and sentenced, but this was going to be slow, mind numbing torture. Even if the same it true in reverse: Ayano doesn't know who Malik is, or what he looks like, but he has a feeling that won't stop her from driving him up the wall.
There's no turning back now: his escort - a truancy officer - swings the door open the rest of the way to shoo Malik inside, leaving him little choice but to trudge forward and report in properly. He takes his seat in the back corner and all but pouts. But hey, at least he was able to get his coffee before getting caught, so skipping wasn't a total wash.
This entire time he makes a point to not look at Ayano or even in her general direction if he can help it. Maybe she'll leave him alone, maybe she'll never find out, maybe he can get through this unscathed...
But he's doubtful. ]
no subject
Oh.
My.
GOD.
no subject
What.
no subject
It's really you...
You have such cool looking eyes, Malik...
no subject
You can thank Retrospec for that. [ He sounds bitter. ] --Do you need something? Sit back down if you have no reason to bother me.
no subject
[Quickly, she takes a seat down next to him, a big shit eating grin on her face because she feels like she's just done the smartest, most impressive strategic maneuver maybe of all time.]
I think they're cool! [Lightly pokes his arm with her pencil.]
It's so crazy to see you in person...[Poke!]
What'cha drinking? Coffee? Hot Cocoa? PSL?
no subject
It's coffee. [ Technically. But like hell anyone is going to find out about his secret love of the most basic of holiday flavors. ]
Is that all? [ He eyes the pencil, just waiting for her to poke him again. ] I have a coffee to drink and homework to not do, and I certainly don't need your... "help" by hanging around.
no subject
[She's going in for another poke, it's going to happen!!!]
I didn't even know you went to this school! I heard about a kid who always skips class, but I had no idea it was you, Malik!
[She leans towards him, trying to get their eyes to meet and probably failing.]
Aren't you curious why I, the sweet, innocent, heroic, do-gooder, Ayano is in detention?
Aren't you?
[Pooooooooke.]
no subject
[ That it's. He twists around to wrench the pencil from her fingers and fling it across the room. NO MORE OF THAT. ]
But if I had to guess, it's because you were being disruptive. Annoying. I know I'd want you out of class... Actually, I want you out of here, too.
[ Hey look he's making eye contact!! ...To glare at her, but. ]
no subject
Wrong! It's because I fell asleep.
Eight times!
[Holds her hand out towards his coffee]
Can I try some? [Yeah, she knows what the answer is going to be, but still....]
no subject
[ Don't tell him he's wrong!!!! Anyway, the question is met with a scowl, and he gets all protective again. ]
No, get your own! I didn't go through the trouble buying it so I could give it to you. I'm not a charity.
[ This is almost more offensive than telling him he's wrong. ]
no subject
I promise I don't have any germs! I'm clean, and also vaccinated!
[The puppy dog eyes are probably ineffectual, but come out nonetheless.]
Although...
I bet you drink your coffee black...
[Raises her fist to her lips as she clears her throat, and then goes on to speak in raspy, Christian Bale-esque tone:]
Like your souuuuuuuul...
no subject
Yes, it's black, so you won't like it because it's bitter... So now you should thank me for saving you the trouble of trying it! Not that I'd let you, anyway. I don't want your spit or hair to get in it.
[ Though if Ayano leans into his personal bubble, maybe she can tell that the coffee smells.. spicy? Certainly not bold and black. ]
Besides, if you're going to insult my soul, that gives me less reason for you to try it.
no subject
I would've thought that being told your soul is as black as the night sky would be something you'd take as a compliment...
[But a soft, devious smirk starts to form on her face.]
Would it be okay for me to tell you a quick secret, though?
no subject
--Ugh. Will you go away after tell me? Or stop trying to drink my coffee? I don't like detention as much as the next person, but you're making me hate it even more.
no subject
I know what a pumpkin spice latte smells like...
[WINK.]
no subject
He has a reputation, okay. ]
...So do I, but that doesn't mean anything. It's unavoidable... it's that time of year where it's everywhere. You're still not special, and I don't see how this qualifies as a secret.
[ HE'S HOLDING ONTO HIS LIE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE DON'T DO THIS ]
no subject
You liiiiiiied!
[Gringrin. She's now advanced to the point in their relationship that she no longer needs a pencil to poke his arm.]
You didn't want me to know that the great and cold hearted Malik loves lil punkins' in his coffee!
That's so cute! [Pokepoke!]
no subject
Shut up! Shut up, you have no proof of that!
[ He's quick to jump up from his seat - PSL in hand - in an attempt to stop any more cutesty gestures. ]
It's just a normal coffee! There's nothing cute about it! I don't know why you're so obsessed with trying to act like I'm something different than what I am... Like I'm your friend, or your stupid rival. I'm not cute, or gentle, or soft, or some loser like you are!
[ where is the teacher, who let these kids be alone ]
no subject
Aaah, Malik! Sit down! If the teacher comes back we're gonna g...Get in...trouble....
[Weakly, her finger trembles as it points towards his waist, while Ayano quickly averts her eyes from Malik.]
Um.
You're unbuttoned...
no subject
He looks down, but does not sit down. ]
Hm? Oh, I know that already. I'm not going to even ask why you're looking there... but I have a belt for a reason, you know. I think they fit better this way.
[ At least he's zipped up, if nothing else. ]
no subject
A-Are you sure you don't want to button it...
I can practically see your underwear...
no subject
Yes, I'm sure. Don't treat me like some child who can't even dress himself! I told you, I think the fit is better this way... I don't like how restrictive it feels when it's completely buttoned, but the belt works just as well.
[ He has absolutely zero shame in this regard and no, he is not sitting down, and honestly? The fact that Ayano seems affected by this only makes him want to be more defiant. ]
You can stop staring if it bothers you so much... Your feelings aren't going to make me change my mind, so really, this is on you for pointing it out. I'm not bothered by it, so why should I have to do anything about it?
no subject
I'm not staring! I don't wanna look there but it's hard when you keep it...keep it at eye level!
no subject
Oh, is that so? That sounds like an excuse to me, Ayano... You could look anywhere else, there's plenty of room.
[ He leans in close, mirroring her earlier actions - only because now he has the advantage, and like hell he's going to exploit it. ]
How does it feel, hm? Are you uncomfortable? Do you want me to stop? Maybe you should have thought about that before trying to torment me earlier.
no subject
I guess it's true though...
[She says, with a slight, pained smirk growing on her face.]
We really are rivals....
[YOU WILL NOT WIN THIS FIGHT, MALIK ISHTAR!!!]
no subject
[ Malik is so incensed by this declaration he accidentally squeezes his coffee cup, sending autumny goodness spilling over the rim and onto his hand. He doesn't seem to notice, or care. ]
Why do you keep insisting?! You're just some girl I keep running into! There's no story here, there's no reason or depth to this. Why do you keep calling me that!!
no subject
[ . . . ]
Also, you squirted some latte onto my face.
[Wipes the drops off her cheek with her ring finger.]
And I think that speaks for itself.
no subject
No, I don't. I've never had a rival and I've done just fine up until I met you. Life is already interesting enough without a dedicated person making it more complicated at every turn. One more thorn in my side among the rest... That's not fun, that's irritating. I'm better off without any such frivolous relations. Your obsession with being my opposite is actually kind of scary.
no subject
I just want to have something with you, you know? I thought maybe it'd be good for both of us...and one day I'll get through to you, and realize that I'm actually helping someone and making people happy, instead of just being an annoying girl that nobody can stand.
[A rare sigh. Malik, you may have won this round, actually.]
Well, at least you're honest about it...
no subject
We will never have something. What, you think you can swoop in and save me? That I'll see the light and be good like you? That we'll be friends if you just try hard enough? I've already told you I'm not good, I've already told you the world doesn't work that way. You'd be less eager if you knew the things I've done. [ A beat. ] The things Retrospec has shown me... You wouldn't like me nearly as much then. But maybe then you'd also give up on your childish attempts to reach me!
[ Oh no okay he's standing up again, looming. ]
You can't make me happy. There are things far beyond your comprehension that I've seen, that you would never be able to get through your dense, naive skull. You can keep bothering me, but you will get nowhere.
no subject
Well...[Cautiously turns toward him, looking him in the eyes.]
Maybe you should just tell me? Rip the bandaid off, get rid of me.
Isn't that what you want? [A small poke into his arm.]
To get me to give up?
no subject
I've killed people.
[ There's no expression on his face. No anger, or remorse, or regret, or anything. He's stone cold blank. ]
no subject
Oh god.
Her wrist trembles a bit in his grip, and suddenly she feels very scared and vulnerable. Teacher, please come back...]
U-Um...
I...For real? Or...in the memories...Um...
no subject
I wonder... Do you think I'm capable? Do you think that maybe I'll get tired of you and kill you too? Maybe I'm lying! Who knows!
[ And then he laughs, as if this sudden tonal change wasn't chilling enough. ]
no subject
I...I don't! [She puffs out her cheeks a bit, trying to reign in her emotions.]
I don't think you are...You're just a boy who has trouble making friends and likes coffee...You're not bad...You're not a killer, even if your memories make you think that you are...
S-so...! So! I don't believe you!
no subject
[ He releases his grip, though remains standing. He's hit an upswing, he's too wired to brood and sulk in the corner anymore, which where his original plans on how to spend his detention. ]
I can't stop your foolishness, but you still don't know what I'm capable of!
[ INSIDE VOICE, MALIK. ]
no subject
So...Okay! Fine!
[And stamps her feet.]
Hit me! Hit me really hard! Prove what you're capable of! Prove you're as bad as you say you are! [Throws her arms behind her, abandoning her inside voice all the same.]
Do it!
no subject
He should have been smarter about this. Ayano could report him; the teacher could walk in right now and bear witness to what he's done; he could lose his temper and all control of himself and really, really hurt her and he'd end up in jail. Not just expelled, not just in juvenile hall, but actual real-life adult jail.
He's gotten into fights before, and has an ugly black mark on his record for assault when he was younger - but that was chalked up to his behavioral issues, he was thirteen, it was going on a juvenile record that could be sealed once he was older. It was an ordeal, but something to put behind him. Something to work on.
Then he got a little drunk and got into a fight at prom, prompting immediate suspension. He claimed it was self defense, he didn't start it. But now? He just clocked an innocent girl in the face. There's no coming back from that.
Too bad he still doesn't feel any sympathy for her, only for himself - knowing that he's going to get caught and rightfully punished for what he's done. ]
There.
no subject
What happened?
What happened?
She can't think, much less speak. Her face hurts so much. It really, really hurts. It stings and bites--she's never been hit before, nobody has ever hurt her like this. So physically and viscerally.
Dragging herself up to her feet, she runs to the front of the class room and finds a seat to quickly sit down in, as far as she can get away from Malik. She buries her throbbing head in her arms and continues to weep quietly. She can't look at him. She messed up, she messed up so badly. Stupid, annoying, worthless girl.]

The power trip from lording power and fear over someone feels a lot better.
So much, in fact, he feels invincible against the rules. Which is why he grabs his bag and just... leaves the room. He doesn't look back, he doesn't sign out, and he certainly doesn't care that he's skipping out on detention. He's incriminated either way, regardless if he stays or not, and he certainly isn't going to sit idly by to wait for the teacher to discover the scene. He definitely doesn't want to sit there and listen to Ayano cry.
So he leaves. ]
