Shooting Challenge [OPEN]
WHO: Fynn Izunia, Hitori Togusa, and anyone who feels like testing their shooting skills against the Department champ, Fynn.
WHERE: The Deadeye Shooting Range
WHEN: 6/21
WHAT: Fynn takes on all comers (and teaches Togusa some lessons in the meantime.)
WARNINGS: Being nerds about guns again.
Now that Togusa was back on his feet, he had finally taken Fynn up on his offer for some off-hours shooting lessons. Their evaluation is coming up, is has to be soon, but the Department has kept absolutely silent about when it might be, so Togusa is nervous. He has been practicing here on his own, to try to hide the fact that he needs so much practice to try to keep up with everyone else. But he has hit a bit of a plateau of how much he can improve on his own. So, he'll accept instruction from anyone that's willing to offer it.
Little did Togusa know that this day at the range also turned into an open invitation, for people both within and outside of the Department. When he notices that there are far more people here than he had expected, he realizes this might be a much better opportunity than originally planned.
(OOC: All are welcome! Open log, please feel free to make your own threads, take this any direction, especially if you want this to turn into a competition, I love it.)

Not that it was just going hunting in England. Sure, it was the highlight of the trip but it usually was a week of hanging around and eating and gossiping and making business connections as well. The American ones were a little bit more about bragging rights and drinking as far as he could tell.
"I think that I may have been part of that group working in the village. It doesn't make sense otherwise."

"The physical changes. Some people have been getting different eye or hair color. It can include injuries. Stuff you don't remember ever getting. But it's there." Togusa's hand meaningfully drifts up to his chest, settles against the front of his ribs for a second.

A normal child in any situation was probably not forced to hit at a plank of wood until their hands were bleeding like in that hallucinomemory. It wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't feel real; he could smell the jungle, the rich greenery, the sharp sweat of the man standing near him, the rain as it starts to fall. He could feel the bleeding cuts in his hands, smell the blood's tang in the back of his throat and feel the heavy hand as it hit. For a dream, it was far too real.
He took a deep breath and nodded slowly, looking down at the gun. It felt too heavy, too odd, but he needed to push past whatever just so he could at least master this. If he was to get any other memories of fighting, he needed to be comfortable around other weapons.
"Okay."

But he solemnly nods, and takes a half-step back to give Yoon-sung space. "It's just like any other physical skill," words he's said before. "Train the body, train the mind, and it'll come along." The rest of what follows is actual tips, telling Yoon-sung how to grip the gun. Hold it this way, and it won't fly up when you fire. Don't use too much of your finger on the trigger. Close your off-eye to line up the sights. Yes, it's okay to do that, the movies are stupid. Cycle your breath in, and half-out, hold right during the instant while you're squeezing the trigger. And it's a squeeze, like you're curling in to form a fist. See, some of this is familiar, right?

But wasn't that something that his other had dealt with all the time?
Got to give him some credit. Yoon-sung was trying to follow the directions, easing into firing the gun, but at the first crack and jerk, he jumped back from the standing point and glared down at the weapon.

The reaction isn't totally unexpected, and Togusa reaches out to gently touch the back of his shoulder, remind him of where he is on the line. He's seen that first shot knock people square on their butts before. "You all right?" Probably just shaken up, but Togusa looks at him carefully. "Not the worst first take I've ever seen."
"Give it another shot," he encourages as he steps back again.

"I guess so. I just not sure if I am going to get use to this at all."
But he was going to at least attempt this until his paid time ran out. He was sure that he was going to learn about guns sooner or later from the hallucinomemories. He just wanted to at least get a head start on them. Going through the steps in his head, this time Yoon-sung didn't jump at the sound of his second shot, even if he wasn't at all steady when he fired.

Between clips, he finally speaks up again. "If getting used to guns means you lose the healthy respect for the damage they can cause, then I'd rather err on the side of caution. But it takes a lot of practice to use them effectively, and to keep the people around you safe while you're using them. The accidents happen with the people who think they can just pick one of these up and solve all their problems with them."
He looks away from the gun back to Yoon-sung. "And I can already tell you're not that sort of man."
no subject
"No, I don't think I ever was one of those kind of people."
no subject
"Come on. Focus on me. You're going to be okay."
no subject
He felt the hand on his back and could hear Togusa talking to him and then the world focused again and he was back at the shooting range, looking down at a practice gun. He had the urge to throw it, but even in this world he knew that was not wise.
"Yeah," he said at least, feeling the tremors subside. "I think that practicing like this is a good thing."
no subject
This keeps up, Togusa is seriously making a new Range Safety Rule.
Togusa is watching Yoon-sung carefully, breathing, pupils, they're fine. No, he's back. But these memories are seriously disturbing to watch, and that's only from the outside. "You don't have to tell me what you saw." Because, given the context, it's likely bad. "But are you all right?"
no subject
"Okay."
He was sure that there were worse under these ones. There had to be, especially given the kind of place that he had seen with the elephant and the village. A drug farm couldn't always be safe, even if he was given the kind of 'hands-off' treatment from the guys carrying weapons. He did have that hallucinomemory of being trained until he was bleeding and still getting told to continue training. It might explain why there was a coldness to the thoughts that sometimes flickered behind the hallucinomemories around the Blue House.
"it wasn't what I saw more then what I felt. That Yoon-sung is a calculating man that used what others think of him to hide what he actually is."
