EVENT

RISE AND SHINE
Spring is upon the city of Recollé now. The rainy season is starting to pass and the last of the winter chill has officially shaken off. The weather is perfectly spring-like with flowers blooming all over the city and the local wildlife rousing from their hiding places. People everywhere find themselves awakening to the sound of birds tweeting and the sun shining peacefully on them as they're drawn from the world of dreaming.

Too bad that's about where the peace ends today.

I.
It’s a leisurely morning when you first wake up. The sun’s rising and peeking in through the curtains of your room, birds are chirping happily, and you find yourself drowning in your sheets with the floor much, much further down than you recall.

Wait, what?

You don’t think that you’ve shrunken at all. After all, your clothing still fits perfectly fine. The trouble with it all is that all of your furniture has enlarged several times its usual size and the walls tower over you more than before. Getting ready for your day is going to be a challenge, but the outside world can’t be that bad, can it?

Think again. Buildings skyrocket dozens of stories higher than they originally were. The button for the crosswalk dangles over your head tauntingly. The tires for your school bus are coming dangerously close as you try to cross the street. Be careful out there!

Is there a safe path to avoid further incidents? As the days go on, citizens will find that if they look down a series of lit-up circles appear under their feet. Stepping on one will cause the Retrospec app to open, and a song will begin to play. How long will this go on? Unfortunately, Retrospec seems to be working just fine and will autoloop until your path of lights meets someone new. After all, isn't social media about bringing people together? Best get to exploring and seeing what’s out there…or, maybe, who’s out there.

II.
Speaking of exploring, it's much easier to see the wear and tear of the city at this size. With everything much larger you may notice that everything about your nice city isn't quite so nice. Cracks in the sidewalk present a hazard when walking everywhere and there are fractures in the buildings themselves. You may wish to avoid them entirely for your own safety.

But for the more curious residents (or anyone accidentally finding themselves falling into these cracks) a venture into these spaces will reveal something a little mysterious. Swirls of black float through space, occasionally punctuated by flashes of images and words. Presented almost like a movie, you may not be able to pinpoint what exactly you’re seeing but it seems to be calling your name to draw you further in. At first, the interior space in these cracks seems to expand and the images become clear. It’s…space? No. It’s stars, lots of stars and there’s a rumbling sound that seems to echo through the cracks along with voices becoming more persistent as they cry out for help. The swirls and mist become thicker with each step. Will you turn back? Or will you press on and risk getting lost in the echoes of voices you don't recognize and images you can't identify?

Those who turn back will find themselves on another path of light, resetting their device and urging them onwards to find someone new. Those who continue forward though and wish to seek the truth will find themselves assaulted either with a whirlwind of memories they’ve already obtained since they’ve received the Retrospec app or blacked out by the darkness as the mist becomes impenetrable.

How will you find your way back? It may be wise to work together on this one to retrace your steps.

III.
Despite the fact the city's experiencing some sizing issues, responsibilities are still important and these problems won't stop your boss from demanding you show up to work on time. Did you get lost on your way to school? What a bummer that this is the day your professors spring a pop quiz on you. The challenges of every day life are even more challenging and as per usual, many people don't even realize there's something wrong. Though your pencil may be taller than you are, you won't be allotted extra time to write things down. Even worse, navigating past shopping carts and down grocery aisles is nearly impossible, especially in larger, more crowded places like Freshens.

Outside isn't much better. Beginning on the fifth of May, clouds begin to loom overhead as the rainy season reminds citizens it's not over yet. All around you critters begin to jump into action to prepare for the inevitable storm. From this level of the ground it's easier to see ants hard at work hauling items 30 times their body weight. That caterpillar might be good for hitching a ride back home. Watch out for the furry four-legged beast running your way!

Speaking of beasts...well. Just because you're no longer your original size doesn't mean your furry and feathered friends won't be. Maybe you're lucky enough to have a companion you can hitch a ride with. Or maybe you aren't so lucky after all. Your pets may like you just fine, but other people's pets and even the insects will give in to their animal instincts, prone to chasing and sometimes outright attacking citizens (Retrospec users and non-Retrospec users alike.) Can you fight? Guess you'll have to find out.

Oh, and you better hurry...the rain that begins later in the afternoon is most unforgiving. At this size? It's quite easy to be swept away in a flood.

IV.
Do you hear that? Everything seems to be amplified now and with the rain pounding down around you for the next five days the echoes are even louder. This time, however, the words are much more distinguishable. Above the din of a hauntingly beautiful song, you may find yourself being coaxed to come out into the Apprassage Woods, whispered promises of your most sacred desire filling your ears. Perhaps it's irrational, like scoring well on college entrance exams. Perhaps it's something much bigger like seeing a loved one again long after their passing. Whatever it may be, the song is almost overpowering and tempting.

Along the way, bright, towering flowers serve as a guiding light deeper and deeper into the woods. The further you travel, the louder they echo those desires back at you, even louder than the song itself. Strangely, for those who have been gifted with a supernatural sense or the ability to see ghosts, you may find that there are figments flickering through the trees encouraging you onward. You want their help, don't you?

There are ways to break out of the song's trance, but it will take teamwork and effort to ground each other back to reality. It seems as though the rain itself may very well be the culprit. Will you seek to find shelter? Maybe you're lucky and happen to have a pair of ear plugs in your pocket. Do your best to guide each other home. The woods aren't very friendly after dark even with the fluorescent glow of the flowers.

BONUS.
The nice thing about being pint-sized is that it's much easier to go where you probably shouldn't. Should you find yourself back in Tisse and in front of the Retrospec building, you may notice it's much easier to slip under the cracks of the front door. Several of you may have been in this lobby before. Like usual, the lights are on. At this size, however, it's easier to hear the echoes of footsteps somewhere above you.

But don't worry about them. Being this size means that it's more possible now to enter some the previously locked rooms. Some rooms don't have enough space to crawl under, of course, but the two rooms that do will reveal something quite interesting. There isn't much in the way of furniture in these two rooms, but every inch of the walls and ceiling remains covered in maps. Not all of these maps are blank. Some of them appear to have small splashes of color varying in size and shape, like an incomplete picture. Some of them also appear to have images on them, such as a Chocobo, or an apple with a smileyface, or a strange die. Furthermore, after the fifth of May, citizens may notice one of the maps now has a picture of those strange glowing flowers from the woods.

Should anyone be ambitious enough to count in these two rooms (though really, that will certainly take time), they will come to find that there are roughly 110 maps in all. And with a little digging, they can explore and attempt to open drawers and closets in these rooms. Together, they will discover there are an additional 30 maps, including one with a picture of a strange-looking doll.

So you want to learn more about these maps, huh? For anyone who tries to draw or write on the maps, they will find that whatever they deface the maps with stays there! However, the moment you exit the room anything you drew on the map will appear on any surface of your skin that's available. Tearing the maps doesn't seem to work either. The maps can only be removed from the wall in one whole piece.

If one were to take a map from the rooms, they would only be able to get to the doorway before it dissolves into ash and creates a miniature dust storm for everyone nearby. Strangely, the map will reappear on the wall and the cycle will repeat itself for days on end.

The maps really, really don't like being touched.

Starting on 5/5, the Echo Flower from Undertale will act as your newest world change! Once the event wraps 5/10, the echoing of desires will stop and they will return to providing white noise and echoing the last thing they heard. These flowers will only remain in the woods.

[ And his savior is...! A 40 year old 5' generously 120 lb woman. She's thin and small and ... grinning a little in spite of herself seeing the man hanging there. Honestly, it's pretty impressive that he did get the grip. ]

Golly, you didn't watch yourself, did you?

[ that said, she is stopping and crouching down to offer both hands to try and help him. That said, this might also go bad. ]

[In his honesty, it's not very easy for him to walk with these seemingly small cracks are now big enough for him to fall in. On the bright side, at least this stranger managed to respond to his pleas for help before a worst-case scenario will come true.]

Sorry. I'm still not able to get used to this large city.

[He then grabs one of her hands before using his other hand to grab the other. And to make sure he doesn't slip, he used the large pebbles located on the edge of the cracks to climb up while hoping for her to pull him up.]

[ Yeah funny we should mention the worst. She is in shape and strong for her size, but she is still small and not like this body can put out that much upper body strength. So while gripping him with both hands and giving him a leg up for sure, there is still a risk that if he loses his footing they'll both go tumbling down.

So hopefully that doesn't happen!

But either way, ]

It is like something out of a painting, it's true!

[Well, that is a strange way to describe their strange situation. However, he needs to think about that later because just as takes another step in an attempted climb back up, he quickly loses his footing, which almost pulling the stranger until he grabs the edge to stop him from falling once more.

Unfortunately, whether the lady in front of him didn't fall over, his footing isn't on the edge anymore, much to his dismay.]

Terrific...

[Seeing this, he wishes that he can release Modeste so she can give the stranger some aid to get him back up. However, with his hands full and his Poke Ball currently in his pocket right now.]

I have a feeling I wouldn't able to hold on much longer.

Worry not, I've got you!

[ Or so she declares!! Because she- can do this! Using all of her strength with boy hands, at the precipice of this little "cliff" they find themselves on she gives him a powerful tug-

... And in the process loses her own footing. Gravity and weight do their work -

Because both of them are falling now. ]

[Well, this is a very unlucky day for Augustine as not only he's falling down into the crack, but that the lady is going along for the ride.

However, he doesn't want to scream in horror for any longer as he takes out his Poke Ball and tosses it in the air.]

Modeste!

[With a bright flash of light, the first thing his dragon does after being released is to catch them with her arms. For some reason, Modeste is also shrunk like them. Regardless, she jumps from wall to wall before landing in a tunnel beneath them.]

[ One moment, she was tugging. The next moment, she lost her footing and she was falling. Elda doesn't scream, but she makes some strange yelping sound as she makes her fall and... oh that's-

Because that sure was some sort of thing appearing in a flash of light and catching her, and that thing, with her in its arms(?) collects the both of them down to -

the bottom?

Um??? ]

What?!

[Again, he still doesn't know about Modeste's species, yet he relieved that her strength and speed were able to catch both of them on time. However, he didn't expect that there is a tunnel underneath the cracks they just fell in.

After that, he strokes his dragon's snout as reward for her actions.]

Nice job, Modeste. We wouldn't have survived if it wasn't for you.

[Well, they wouldn't survive if he hasn't taken out his Poke Ball in time. Still, he knows that Modeste earns it as she growls in delight at the sight that her friend is okay.

Although once he hears the lady's voice, he realizes that calling Modeste out might have made a small precaution...]

Um... I can explain...

[ What the hell even is that thing. A lizard? It looks a little like a shark but for the fact that it's... standing. It did catch her (save her?) and so she... well, once she stands and dusts herself off, she walks over to break the distance between herself and the creature. She doesn't dare touch it, but she does sort of nod a little and put a hand on hr chest by way of a sort of half bow ]

Yeah, I bet. Not every day you see some giant shark-lizard appear out of nowhere! At least, I don't think it is.

[Considering that she came from one of his visions, he can understand her reaction about this. But at least she hasn't shown any hostility to the stranger right now.]

I agree. But long story short, she kind of arrived here in a small capsule ball from a Retrospec package I got one month ago.

[But back to their situation at hand, Augustine looks around the tunnel for a way out. And by the looks of this, it seems to be straight path with the other path behind them leading to a dead end.]

Well, this is a very troubling. I even doubt we can climb back up to the streets.

How does this-- how does she [ How can he tell? ] even fit into a ball? That's just silly.

[ And it does confirm what she had heard, Retrospec sends packages with weird power things in them. And this guy got a monster of some sort? Wow. Elda exhales, shaking her head and deciding, yes, she needs to move past it.

... There's a tunnel over there, but. ]

We'll have to press on ahead, then?

I should explain about that right after we get out of here.

[Besides, explaining to her that it can transform Modeste into energy to store her into the Poke Ball is more awkward already.]

Looks like the best option for us right now. Let's go.

[With that, he returns his dragon back into his Poke Ball before he walks into the tunnel with his hopes that she is following him. After an hour of walking, however, they may see swirls of black vortex-like smoke coming right in front of them.]

Well, this is getting stranger by every minute.

You do realize you didn't even give your name and now you assert to obscure your creature? That is most unbecoming.

[ She says this irritably, but she's also content to walk with him because, well, it really does seem like their only option. But after ten minutes she's astounded by how long this is going. After thirty, she's looking at her phone, wondering if she should call someone. After the hour? She's stressed and certain that this really is odd. ]

I should say so.

[In his defense, he is so focused on getting out of the tunnel now that he forgot to introduce himself. However, by the time they found the smoke, he decides to give out his name.]

By the way, I'm sorry about that earlier. I'm Augustine Sauveterre, a professor from Recolle University.

As for the smoke, I doubt there is any way to get across without avoiding it at the same time. Any ideas?

And I am Elda Marker, charmed.

[ A professor at the Recollé University. Huh. She said that with a somewhat blasé tone, and she looks back at the smoke. She looks around for some likely looking rock or something - but it seems the further they got down this path the more it seems like...

Huh. ]

I suppose there's nothing doing but to go through it. We could send your lizard first.

That "lizard" is a dragon and I don't think that's a good idea until we know what it really is.

[But does he have any other choice for that matter? Besides, if he did call Modeste out and use her to dig themselves an another tunnel, it will have a high chance for it to collapse.

Yet he doesn't want to use her to bust their way around the smoke.]

... How is it a dragon! It didn't even have wings?

[ Hufff Hufff.

Okay, she'll take a step towards the swirling black, reaching out to brush her fingers over it... ]

[Wings or no wings, Augustine knew that Modeste does look like a dragon that looks like a cross between a dinosaur and a shark.

But before he can correct her, he is shocked to see what she is doing to the vortex right now.]

Wait, what are you doing? It might be dangerous to touch!

We'll have no choice but to move through it anyway.

[ The blackness moves away from her hand, swirling off in different directions. She frowns, looking further into it, and there's little lights ahead in various directions. ]

It doesn't seem acidic or anything.

[Once he sees her touch the smoke, he realizes that she is right somehow. Yet, he is still cautious regarding moving into it.]

You're right. But in case something happens in there, we'll retreat, okay?

[With that, he enters through the smoke first, still keeping his guard up.]

[ How chivalrous. She smirks a little to herself, following behind the man easily as the darkness swirls around them, ]

Oh, of course. I wouldn't want to be trapped here.

[As she followed the college professor, he continues walking down the path in an attempt to not only pass through the darkness around them but to find their way out.

But instead, his mind is quickly attacked by many visions in his head, many of which are his "hallucinomemories" as he clutches his head in pain.]

[ Elda's new to retrospec, she's actually had comparatively few memories. She doesn't get assaulted immediately, instead looking around at the blackness, seeing how it's given way to pricks of light. To stars, it seems like. She hums at the sight of it, and actually, as he slows a little, reaches a hand out to tug him along-

Until she sees what he's doing.

Is he- ]

Profes--

[ -sor.

Her mind is suddenly assailed. The darkness around her -bats? ]

[While he doesn't have that many memories so far, it doesn't mean it can hurt him a lot. Because as memories of Modeste, the young girl, the three small creatures, and the people he saw in his visions replayed in his mind, Augustine struggles to endure the pain in his head while trying to stand up from the smoke.

However, because of the many visions that were repeating in his mind, he is unable to bear it until he sees Elda somehow in the same situation.]

M-Ms... Elda...

[It was the only thing he said as the pain makes him unable to speak any further, which he is minutes away until he loses consciousness.]

[ Bats? Why bats? And then she leapt down to grab a man - Henry? Who's Henry? she had named a cat that once? But then - it cuts off. Watch them burn? Why- What? For her part, it's a sharp but single recollection. She runs a hand down her face, and she pinches one of her cheeks, looks around and- ]

There aren't bats here...

[ She observes. They'd be huge. they'd see them. She exhales, and then reaching that same hand out, she grabs onto his sleeve ]

Come, let's keep going.

[ And she'll make to try and drag him, her own mind flaring some more. ]
