[openish mingle] we’re too cool to be alone

Who: Any and all between the ages of 16 and 23
What: Sweet party in a warehouse.
When: Late night, March 24th
Where: An abandoned warehouse complex just outside of Enprise, backing up against Recolle Woods
Warnings: Questionable decisions including underage drinking; the hosts’ shitlord attitudes.

I.
It’s Friday night and the stars are out. You’ve been invited to a somewhat-secret network party on the outskirts of town, led to your destination by a map and directions that are as helpful as they are vague (“turn onto Woodstead Rd., in 0.4 miles there’ll be a grove on the right hand side for parking. Park out of sight of the street if you can, then follow the lights through the trees to the gate…”). But the grove is there, and there are lights twinkling in the trees that suggest a path to an old abandoned warehouse complex. Maybe you’ve driven past it before. You probably didn’t think there was anything worth seeing in here… but the chain link fence has been cut open at one corner, rolled back and tied open with zipties to create an entrance to the back of the complex.

Still, for as thorough as the directions are, written by someone who knows that their readers have never been out here before, there’s always room for error! Are you looking for this hidden grove? Failing to follow the path (Mother said don’t delay, follow the path and never stray)? Or maybe you’re just loitering around this makeshift gate, not sure whether or not you’re really ready to go in. After all, in spite of the stars and the moon and your flashlight (hopefully you thought to bring one when you saw where it was), this is a lot different than a simple house party...

II.
It’s not too hard to find the warehouse where the party’s taking place beyond the makeshift gate; there’s a faint glow of light and the sounds of voices and music, enough to lead you to what must be the Retrospec U. party. Plenty of people are mingling both inside and outside the warehouse, and as you go inside you’ll find a clean, two-level warehouse softly lit by faerie lights that have been strung along the rafters, the railings, anywhere more light might have been needed. On one side of the warehouse seems to be an impromptu bar built from wooden pallets and scrap lumber. There’s plenty of alcohol to go around (as well as bottles of soda and water donated by some kind soul!), sleeves of red solo cups, paper towels, and a hodge-podge of bagged snack foods left for the taking as well. One paper bag jiggles and bounces suspiciously on the “counter”, awaiting the hour when somebody’s drunk enough to consider making drinks with its happy citrus contents.

The party seems to be in full swing, with a number of people dancing on a makeshift dance floor as Arlene’s carefully-selected playlist of dance and pop music blares from a setup of battery-powered speakers and iPod. Near the dance floor a table is set up for beer pong or flip cup, and beyond that are a number of people just mingling, enjoying the atmosphere and getting to know one another.

Maybe it’s time to get some food or drink! Are you out on the dance floor or testing your luck with beer pong? Perhaps neither appeal to you and you’re just mingling, or trying to sub out the current music selections for your own (careful! Arlene might zap you if she catches you!)?

III.
Upstairs, things are a little bit calmer, relatively speaking. The music isn’t quite as loud up here, and there are a couple more makeshift tables and chairs made from old, emptied cable reels and milk crates, oil drums--all the trash you’d expect to find in a warehouse complex, hoarded away to create a reasonably accommodating choice of seating. Up here is where you’ll find people having more serious conversations, looking down at the students down below as the night wears on and people’s inhibitions are lowered. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to watch but not participate, or who might not feel as comfortable being in the middle of a crowd.

Of course, there are also a few groups upstairs playing games, too. Never Have I Ever is a popular one, while another group seems to be starting up games of euchre or poker, and that group sitting in a circle by the railings--oh, no. Are they playing Truth or Dare? They are. Would you like to join in? Or are you waiting for someone else to talk with?

WATCH DUTY / ROOFTOP
There are a few problems with running parties like these, parties where you can’t personally vouch for everybody involved and which involve a little bit of rule-breaking, such as trespassing on what’s technically (probably) private property, even if it has been abandoned for years. Not to mention the drinking. Neither Dante nor Arlene care if people underage choose to partake, for obvious reasons, but they both know that the police department will if for some reason they get called out to the warehouse.

So there’s been a watch duty set up, two people every hour to hang out on the roof and keep a lookout for anything out of the ordinary which might lead to a quick evacuation of the party (after all, there’s no way to know if anybody squealed, right?). Of course, getting up to the roof isn’t too tough as long as you aren’t afraid of ladders, so there are more than just the lookouts up top. After all, up here you get the cool night air and the view of the night sky and the city in the distance.

What’s brought you out here tonight? Are you one of the lucky souls on lookout duty, pulled aside and quietly talked to by either Arlene or Dante, or are you up here looking for a more private place to talk with somebody…?

[*note: as of now, there are no plans for anything to happen during the party. Lookout duty will be nice and slow, just the way you want it to be in a case like this!]

[[ooc: Here we go, the big R.U. college party! Treat this as a mingle log and tag in and out wherever you’d like. There will be top-levels below for Never Have I Ever and Truth or Dare, but otherwise RUN WILD AND HAVE FUN :)

And please note that your OOC hosts do not necessarily condone underaged drinking. Be safe, friends!]]

[She does pick this guy first, specifically because he's the one she doesn't recognize.]

Hmm.... how about you? Floaties. Truth or dare?

Hey, nobody forced you to play. Give someone your phone for a minute, and, hmm... [She pretends to think this one over, like she hadn't had a few ideas stored up already.] Ooh, and they can send one text to anyone in your contacts.

[better be someone you trust, Rin]

[Rin digs his phone out of his pocket and -- extends it to Arlene. he ain't afraid'a no dare]

Do your worst.

[a slight smirk, those pointy teeth of his making an appearance]

[all of retrospec is fair game, given that he uses the app to text]
twelfthspark: ([:o] so what's it gonna take?)

[wow what the hell is with his teeth. Arlene looks a little taken aback]

but she takes the phone anyway. Retrospec is already up, whether he had the app open before this or not. Maybe that should be creepy but for now she'll take it as convenient.

She picks a name that isn't somebody she knows nor a professor, and sends the text: Just wanted to say thank you for not dying. I love you.

Pretty tame, but it ought to be a good conversation starter.]
