RUMOR HAS IT
In the age of modern technology, people keep in touch 24/7. It's hard to find a resident that doesn't own a cell phone, a tablet device, or a computer. It's even harder to find a resident that doesn't use their devices every single day. But the wonderful folks at Retrospec know just how important it is for you to stay in touch with your closest friends. Retrospec also knows how important it is to bond with your friends and learn all about them. Isn't that how friendships are made? Why would you ever hide something from your friends? That just won't do. After all, Retrospec is all about sharing...

I.
In all parts of the city, all residents with the Retrospec app will notice they have one unread notification. You can ignore the notification all you'd like, but you can't do much of anything else either. Do you have an important essay to finish typing for class tomorrow? Are you trying to search for reviews on the latest restaurant that opened in Tisse? That's too bad. Until you check out that notification your device (and subsequently all devices you try to use) will freeze up.

When you finally get sick of being blocked from everything and open the notification, you'll find a video of…well, you. You don't recall anyone filming you, but that's not the most startling part. What's unsettling about this video is the narration over the audio revealing a deep, dark secret about you. The best part is that the video auto-loops so long as you have the app open, but even if the app is closed the video may very well appear on the newsfeed of all Retrospec members.

The good news is that there is a way to delete the video! With a little work (and after suffering the embarrassment of having their auto-loop blast for all to hear), residents will be successful in deleting the video. Willingly showing it to another Retrospec user will allow the video to play as normal, but at the end a "DELETE" button will appear. On the other hand, Retrospec is still new and filled with little bugs and glitches. That video will be deleted but it might be sent out to the entire network as a private message. It might even go viral on the hottest streaming website. But don't worry, these things are happening to everyone. Will you embrace your secret? Or will you be one of the ones desperately trying to hide it?

II.

Those who aren't glued to their mobile devices will notice that spring is starting to roll in as snow melts away. Birds twitter to one another as they nest in the trees and the rooftops of several homes in the city. The flowers aren't blooming yet, but residents know they will be soon.

Today's just like any other day…but it's strange. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, but it almost feels as though you're being watched. No matter where you turn, you can't shake the feeling that there's a pair of eyes following every step you take and every move you make. Occasionally, you'll hear the flash of a camera but you can't catch the culprit fast enough.

Before you can duck into any of the buildings to escape, however, you'll find yourself ambushed by one, two, or maybe even three tabloids reporters complete with camera crew and microphones. The barrage of questions is dizzying, but it seems as though they want to question you about your secret that was publicized on Retrospec. Refusing to answer their questions will only make the reporters angry. Will you give them a full-spread report of your life? Will you run away and lead a pack of desperate paparazzi down the street? There must be a way to get rid of them once and for all!

…you might need some extra help though.

III.
There's a nervous kind of energy in the air as residents carry on with their daily routines. Kids joke about their silly secrets. Adults hope their colleagues won't judge them for the things they've done in the past. It's not so bad though. Everyone has an embarrassing secret they have to live with.

Oh well. Life goes on, and the city continues the way that it always has. For example, those in the Apprassage district will notice that the Recollé public library is hosting its semi-annual book swap. Residents can come trade their old books for new ones during the first week of March. The library will also be holding a bake sale with all proceeds going directly to the Recollé school district. Are you helping out at the sale? Are you perusing the stacks upon stacks of books to see what catches your eye? It's a great way to mingle with people and share stories.

And speaking of sharing stories, residents may look up and notice that a few people leaving the sale have a piece of paper taped to their back. It's not clear where this paper came from. You're fairly sure you didn't see anyone wandering around taping signs to people's backs. The poor sap in front of you appears to be oblivious, but upon closer inspection you may find that this paper reveals another secret about themselves. Will you alert them about this note, or will you let them walk around advertising their secret for the entire city? Think wisely; you might have your own secret taped to you, too.

IV.
Isn't technology supposed to make things easier? That no longer seems to be the case as a power surge blows through all districts in the city. Appliances start to act up. Lightbulbs burn out. Electronic billboards deliver scrambled messages. Toilets back up, audio feedback blows out the eardrums of performers at the Atrium, toasters catch on fire, everything that could possibly go wrong seems to be going wrong. Are you stuck at work trying to calm down an entire store? Are you forced to go into a lockdown at school until they figure out what's wrong with the lights?

It all comes to a head though starting the night of March 4th. Street lamps are bright and shining on the streets of all districts. Tisse is just as crowded and loud as ever with live music and parties. Employees in Chata go through their nightly procedures to close shop for the evening. It all happens so fast, but one minute everything seems to be functioning and the next the city plunges into a complete blackout. All lights and sounds cease to exist.

Are you out in the city? Maybe you were fortunate enough to be at home already, but it's never a bad idea to check on your neighbors. Mayor Mayer seems to be sleeping through the crisis. It's up to residents to work together to solve these issues and try to bring their power back. Groups can link up and search for any knocked-down power lines in the city (and will most likely find them in Apprassage.) There are several emergency generators scattered in the city, but it's best to take a buddy before wandering in the dark. Residents can also create emergency response teams to hand out supplies and direct other citizens to safe zones as the generators begin to kick in. There are no limits to how people can help. In fact...there may even be some residents who have a few unique ideas.

BONUS.
Okay. So your secret's out. No big deal, right? It's out and you've embraced it and life can move on. If only it were that easy though. Over the course of the month of March, several residents may start to experience other tricks of memory. For instance, maybe you order your favorite coffee drink only to discover it doesn't taste quite the same. A trip to the movies might surprise you when the trailer for the next big feature stars someone who looks a little like you. Your favorite song on the radio might get interrupted by a conversation between two people discussing, well, you.

Look around. You may find you're not the only one second-guessing yourself.

Then again, some people just want answers. For those who are sick of Retrospec butting into their lives, you're more than welcome to head back to their offices in Tisse. Getting in won't be easy. In front of the door is a large monitor-type device and an interactive screen. If you want to step into their headquarters, looks like you'll have to grab a friend and play along.

With the success of a fully completed puzzle, the door will unlock and allow characters to step into the lobby. This time, instead of being completely empty, there are a handful of large glass tubes mounted to the walls. Inside these tubes are colored stones of varying amounts, though it's obvious some are more full than others. The doors in the halls will still be locked, vents and windows will be unable to open, and--huh. Didn't there used to be an elevator? Where'd that go?

There's a large sign that says "DO NOT TOUCH" in front of the tubes, but for anyone who blatantly ignores the sign, they'll be hit with an overwhelming sense of homesickness that will drive them out of the building and to wherever they consider home. But on their way there, they'll find themselves at the mercy of those pesky reporters again, this time asking for details about the story they created with the Retrospec building's new security measure.

[ they had something going on here! usually the stories went off the rails at this point but so far, so good.

wanting to keep the beat cheerful, she writes down the first positive word that comes to wind- which was 'marvelous' of course because what else would she use? ]

[Before he can take his turn, he noticed the word Ainsley put down and when he sees what kind of word she was supposed to put, he can tell she is somehow incorrect.]

"Marvelous"? I think you're supposed to put in a color there.

[ wait- what? ]

I didn't put in 'mauvelous' in this bit? [ let her take a look at that paper, the current rules be damned. ] Curse my perfect spelling! That was a great pun!

[Oh, Ainsley and her puns. This makes him wonder how many puns she made.]

Of course. I doubt you can change it ri-

[Just then, another vision flashed into his head.

This time, he sees himself saw a strange machine he can't seem to see clearly. He can't even can't tell who are the four people alongside him. However, he can hear what he said.]

Oh my, marvelous! It looks powerful!

[He can't tell why, but he realizes that he used to say that word all of the time. Yet, why has he only remembered this vision?

Of course, once he snaps out of his vision, he quickly shakes it off out of shock.]

Oh, my... It's another one of those visions.

[ any concerns about her ruined puns are put out of her mind when he tells her that he had just gotten another vision. that pales in comparison to this. something about this triggered him but what?

immediately, she becomes more serious. growing somber, she reins her emotions back in because she has a kneejerk reaction to ask all the questions. how? what? why?

okay, breathe. let's start this off with something simple: ] What did you see?

[As he can tell, Ainsley halted her puns for a while as he noticed her worries after he sees his latest vision.]

I-It's nothing serious. But I did see a machine in front of me and strangely, I was wearing a lab coat in some kind of an abandoned building. I also saw four people with me, all of them are children.

It's not only that, I seemed to remember that I said "marvelous" most of the time. Only, I can see one vision of myself saying it.

[But once he explains everything, he realizes something when he mentions that word.]

Wait... The word you accidentally typed in...

So that's what triggered your memory? The word?

[ huh. that's a little strange but she takes her friend's word for it.

not every day someone's possible memories or visions are summoned by mere words. this is the first time she's heard of this being a possibility for them. whether this will be useful in the long run is to be decided later.

let's focus on what's known so far. ] This is an interesting development. This means the word meant a lot to you if you said it a lot and that mere text can also be a possible trigger for us.

[ long as the word was significant, of course. ]

Yeah. And it's not only the words associated to each of us. When I got that vision of that dragon, it happened when I was in the shark exhibition in Recolle Zoo and Aquarium where I explained about a hammerhead shark, which the dragon has a same appearance as the shark I've mentioned.

However, I think it's not only limited to anything that might trigger these visions.

[Though why he was shown a vision of a shark/dragon hybrid creature?]

What about you? Do you remember something before your visions showed up?

[ at this point, ainsley looks uncomfortable as she tries to remember what she remembered before remembering.

(bwoooom. seriously-)

was there something that happened before any of the visions she's had? it's hard to say since they happened far and in between of each other. and all the other events they've had in the past - the blackout, the festivals, this - have started making things become blurred together for her.

the best one she can recall is the one with anya. her tying a necklace of flowers suddenly causing her to remember her doing the same thing for someone else. a young girl, happy and carefree, as she looked up at her with utter trust.

something about this has her stomach twisting in anxiety however. like she shouldn't talk about it because... because... ] I'm sorry. I really don't recall anything specifically. They happen so far from each other that I only know they're related since they usually always leave me feeling like I got K.O'd by someone.

What do you mean? That you blacked out when you saw your own?

[This made him worry about Ainsley a little regarding her visions.]

Um- Sort of? [ it isn't a total lie. ] It feels like the world is spinning for some reason whenever it happens. It's the only way I know what's happening in the first place since that doesn't happen to me except when I see something.

I don't know why but it's always a serious case of vertigo before... anything happens. [ it's getting annoying, if she must be honest. and worrying since she does not want this to happen when she's in class with the kids. ]

[So she gets a case of vertigo after her visions were shown? He wonders if it has to do with what she saw.]

Strange... You tend to feel sick after each vision, yet I felt a little dizzy or tired when I have them...

I feel that there might be connection to us with our visions.

I suppose it could be our own special 'thing' when it comes to getting a vision. [ it certainly feels like it to her. no one else has ever mentioned feeling the intense dizziness she feels whenever it happens.

but she feels like this discussion is for another time. right now, she realises something else has to be done right now. ] I think it's high time we finish the puzzle so we can see what's inside the building. Maybe our first ever clue.

[ or more aspirin. she'll take what she can get. ]

[More like how they react to their visions. Yet he wonders what are these connections involving him and the people in his visions.

Of course, he decides to agree as time is running out for them.]

Yeah, I think it's time we get some answers.

Together! [ and to seal the deal, she offers her pinky finger to augustine.

to make sure their vow was the most serious and solemn one they shared yet. ] It'll be challenging, I'm sure, but I've got your back.

[Obviously, Augustine accepts her pinky finger with his own, now determined to see what's beyond the door.]

Right. And even if you made a little mistake there, should you edit it or I should go next?

Let's just keep going. [ she will forever mourn the loss of that perfect pun oppurtunity but they had bigger fish to fry right now. ]

Better to solve this quickly as possible than to be right one hundred percent. [ who knows if someone tries to jump them or stop them?

better to not waste anymore time and find a way into the building. and quick. ]

[Don't worry, Ainsley! You'll get it next time!

As for the puzzle, Augustine nodded in agreement before he turns his eyes to the screen as he types "clear" on the next section of the puzzle.]

[ 'cuddly!' was her reply when the paper was given to her.

because this is going to be a nice story. no need to be violent or anything if they can avoid it. she hands off the paper back to him- after making sure she wrote the word she wanted to, for sure. ]

[He then types "unusual" as his next line since they have been experiencing strange events lately. Then again, the words they put might be a strange story they ever wrote together.]

[ when in doubt, you make up a word to keep the ball rolling. that's what she was taught in the round robins with her students.

so she quickly jots down 'bigamoboo' since that's a word that could be used for anything and everything. hopefully it works in this case as she passes the paper back to augustine, her face a picture of innocence despite the silly nonesense she's written. ]

[Once more, he mentally questions about Ainsley's choice of words, yet he knew they have limited time to ask about them. He then puts "fell" on the next line before handing it back to Ainsley, which he just silently stares at her.]

[ she's thinking on her feet, would be her answer.

thankfully the next result of this is more sensible. 'book' is her next reply because what else would this person have but a book? nothing else if ainsley had anything to say about it. ]

["Mauled" might be too gory for the mad lib story, so he just writes "attacked" instead despite he has no clue what a 'bigamoboo' is.]
