WHAT: The log for the blind dates event! Awkward dates and disasters within.
WARNINGS: None!

It’s finally the fated day: Valentine’s.

Some of Recolle’s citizens might be going out, spending the day with their loved ones, while others might be sitting in bars, crying into their drinks. For a number of “lucky” ones, they might have gotten dragged into a blind date!

The Narukami twins have done their jobs. All the matches have been released. Partners have been assigned. Messages have been sent out. Now all that needs to happen are the actual dates. So, run free, everyone. The entire city is there to be their playground. They can go on their own respective dates, join up with other couples, spy on others, sabotage some, anything is fair game. After all, it’s not really fun if someone’s not crashing on another person’s party, right?

[ Ryoji's dedication to the date is admirable and Souji smiles at it. He will gladly and proudly keep at this for true authenticity. And when they enter the beloved cafe, he just whispers right back. ]

You're going to have to fight me for a spot.

[appraiser]

Yeah? Bring it on!

[ Ryoji laughs, raising his fists in front of his chest in a mock boxing pose, which only pulls Souji closer to him when he tucks his elbows in. But man, competition's tough already! Aside from Souji, there are lots of other patrons crowding the cafe this Valentines Day, either with their dates or here on their own, because who needs dates when you have cats? ]

Before me, though, it looks like we have some other contenders. How about we team up for today?

[ Souji can understand these other patrons. He too would gladly spend the rest of his life with cats and become a crazy cat man if he had to. He'd give up love if he needs to. (Ryoji better watch his back). ]

Yes, it appears that a truce is in order. Here, gather as many of our feline companions as you can, and I will ensure us a seat where we can have tea with all of us.

[ He points to the table in the far back, a table that can host up to six people, but no, he's determined that he gets this one so they can give each one of their cat friends their own seat. He can do this. He just needs Ryoji to also do his part. ]

[ Heels together, a sharp salute, and there Ryoji goes. There's a reason why herding cats is an idiom, though; he quickly finds that he can't just stand and call cats over like he can with dogs, and the moment he picks up a cat and sets it down, it's gone the moment he turns his back to collect a second. But he can't give up, because not only is Souji counting on him, but he realizes that Souji has been preparing Ryoji for such a task this entire time, teaching him how to gain a cat's trust through all those quests of hand-on experience.

It starts with food, quieting and calming himself, and getting to know each of the cats' personalities to best determine how they will respond. An energetic kitten who's recently discovered the joy of climbing and sticks to Ryoji's pant leg like a burr as he walks around with the extra weight above his knee. An older cat who cracks open an eye when he picks it up, but settles back into lazy slumber over his shoulder. Hungry cats who smell food on him and paw at his shoes— jerky, that he'd carried over from his quest the day before, that he maneuvers out of his pocket without jostling the cat scarf, and looks over to where Souji went to secure a table. ]

Narukami-kun!

[ HEAD'S UP, CATCH! flying cats coming his way chasing after the jerky, but at least it's better than a Chocobo? ]

[ WHY IS JERKY ALWAYS ATTRACTING FLYING ANIMALS but at the very least, it's cats this time... which is something that Souji could handle and definitely does not mind compared to a flying giant bird of death. So, he catches the jerky and can't help but give a very sincere laugh at all the little cats gathering at his feet, pawing and meowing and quite possibly already climbing up his leg. ]

Haha, easy there. [ He bends down to tend to these very greedy kitties, petting and giving them tiny bits of the jerky that he's trying to rip parts off as best as he can. As he does this, he looks up at Ryoji. ] Mochizuki-san, you've learned well from your lessons.

[ also, table's secure btw so may their kitty guests be seated ]

I learned from the best~

[ There's only so much he can do with his current level of cat herding experience, so Ryoji leaves the task of seating the rest of the cats to Souji, while he himself settles down with his lap cat, leg cat, shoulder cat, arm cat... And they're falling asleep... ]

Oh... I'll never be able to move or get up again. This is where I die.

[ It doesn't take long for Souji to herd all the cats to their proper seats. Luckily, some of them are small enough that he can fit multiple cats to a single chair or to sit even on the table. It truly is paradise. ]

Is that so? Then I guess that means I don't have to buy you any of the sweets or drinks they serve here...

[ Hm, if that's what Ryoji really wants, then sure. Souji can save some extra money. ]

[appraiser]

You're going to hasten my death? So cruel!

[ At least feed him; just pop a piece of jerky in Ryoji's mouth like he did for the cats. But the deal they made was a fully paid cat cafe visit, and Ryoji's not going to let him skimp. ]

A knight's duty to his prince should at least be to grant him one wish before he dies: I want to try the catnip tea. Lift the straw over here.

[ Souji definitely has every intention to pay for at least five different cakes and drinks for Ryoji so have no fear, Souji saved enough from his job for the date. He's been waiting for this. ]

Ah, your majesty does have a point. Then so be it. [ He places a hand against his chest, bowing his head. ] I, Souji Narukami, your loyal knight, will serve to you till the bitter end. Whatever final wishes you may have, I will grant every single one of them.

Beginning with your catnip tea.

[ And Souji does exactly as Ryoji requests, lifting up the drink and positioning the straw for Ryoji to drink ]

[ Souji's ready compliance to what was supposed to be a joke takes Ryoji completely by surprise, so that he almost recoils from the cup in his face. But he's not one to back off either, so as embarrassing as it is, he takes a sip: the tea is minty, faintly of lemon... and could use an extra cup or two of sugar.

At least somebody at this table would enjoy it though, so in mid-sip, Ryoji sticks the tip of his tongue over the end of the straw to hold the tea within it, and lifts the straw out of the glass, letting two drops fall onto Souji's hand.

Cats on the table, pushing their faces at Souji's hands. Cats off Ryoji's lap, finally granting him freedom. It's a good trade, he thinks. ]

[ If there's one thing to know about Souji, it's that he's willing to roll with any joke. It's hard to throw him off on anything, so better luck next time, Ryoji. He does chuckle, though, when Ryoji drops a few drops of his drink onto his hand and all the cats start gathering. ]

You should pick out a few items on the menu to order, for both yourself and our feline companions.

[appraiser]

[ With his free hands, Ryoji jiggles the menu out from under one of the cat's paws and props it straight up so Souji can read the back while he scans the front... or at least the top half of the front, seeing as another cat steps over his arms and plunks itself right in front of the menu. It meows at him, and Ryoji meows back. ]

Let's see... They have the classic purritos. Oh, but potato sameowsas sound good too. Maybe we can split it? As for drinks— [ He pardons himself as he lifts the cat's paws to see the list of drinks below ] —it has to be the pumpkitten spice frappé! While they're still having winter flavors!
