nightmares

[ When you enter the dream, you're engulfed by darkness until you hear a deep and unfamiliar voice. It speaks in a language you are most comfortable with. ]

The contract has been sealed...

You have agreed to provide the Trickster support
in his journey to oppose fate and seek change.

CASINO
It's filled with a variety of gamblers from talking fish to actual people. Shadows are also gambling? But they're aggressive due to their mass losses. There are several elevators and it seems like the treasure is on the VIP level.

If you choose to enter the CASINO, you may appear outside of the structure or on the first floor in costume and mask. Akira will accompany you in his Joker outfit.

VELVET ROOM
Are you a prisoner? Or a keeper? You can stand behind the bars with Akira, withstand the abuse and rebel alongside him, or on the opposite side—ushered by two wardens and a man with an elongated nose to carry out discipline. Rehabilitation is important.

If you choose to enter the VELVET ROOM, you may appear inside or outside the cell. Your attire will change into prisoner wear or officer uniform respectively.

MEMENTOS (SPOILER)
In the city of Recolle, you notice there's something strange. People walk past the blood red rain and the towering skeleton pieces. The irrelevant become forgotten. The forgotten vanish. Is it your hand that's disappearing? Or is it Akira's?

If you choose MEMENTOS, you'll be in your normal attire or in your underwear. Whichever your character feels less attractive in if you want. Once again, Akira is beside you.

[ Akira has been having a hard time with his nightmares. Some of them he remembers bits and pieces (all useless), but he's thinking a jog in the ungodly time where the thick fog rolls in is a good idea? Unfortunately not... He ends up running away from one of these three tormentors in his pajamas. What's with his luck?

As he looks behind him, he crashes into someone. Sorry. ]

TWIN WARDENS (SPOILER)
Their names are unknown to you, but they're two girls with silver hair with a single golden eye (an eyepatch covers the other). As attendants of the Velvet Room, they have this ethereal aura to them, even menacing as they shoot various skills into the fog.

"Come back here, inmate! You can't hide forever!"

"You're only delaying the inevitable."

IMPERIOUS ANGEL (SPOILER)
An angel appears with an abstract body shape. Wings scaling wide and halo spinning over its head, it spreads its several hands that hold instruments. With the rise of the triangle, the angel rings it with a clear ding. In a matter of seconds, a flash of light magic strikes near.

"I am what humanity desires. Why oppose me?"

You can hear the sneer in its voice.

GOLD PIGGER
This silver piggy bank may seem cute, but it's also massively large and rolls without end. What does stop it from rolling are valuable items. Throw something expensive and it'll take a break to appraise it with a series of oinks. The one in control is a half-fly guy throwing out some mad rhymes.

"Yo yo yo! You think you can just walk into my neighborhood and disrespect me like that, dawg?"

[The footage more than anything, he doesn't actually remember much of the heists themselves ~~which is about to change thanks~~, and... that is weird. This is weird. To Retrospec? But this Palace... its ruler is that Kamoshida man, isn't it? He knows that much about the whole process.]

... How exactly are these things supposed to go?

[Can't he just let Akira do the whole thing... Who even wrote up their calling cards anyway. Can he purple prose against Retrospec. That'd be fun, the calling card would be ten pages long though.]

[ Anti-Jim is something, isn't he? There's something about him that is attractive or maybe that's just Akira's thinking—anyway, Akira attempts to evade but was too late and also takes some damage. However, it doesn't affect him as much as his own processing of the situation. It's... Rough on him.

However, Sena's words shake him out of his daze. Eyes wide, he looks at him in dismay. For a moment, he wonders how can they fight this. This... Personification, this entity, it's overpowered and has the ability to change their surroundings.

"That's right. If you were Joker, you wouldn't doubt taking me on."

Mr. Retrospec is still pristine despite taking damage from Sena, snapping his fingers to summon Mrs. Retrospec. She comes in with her wedding gown, pristine and beautiful (with that same logo on her face). They do a little tango and that triggers a large scale attack. It's a bright, inescapable, white light and they take some damage. He shields his eyes, but he has made decision. It took him longer than the time it would take his other self, but it's something. ]

Sena... You should run. I don't want you to get dragged into this.

[ He's realizing that this is feeding off of all the issues he tucked under the rug. It's not long before voices come from the galaxy around them, they whisper the word "ruin." It starts with one word, then "there is only ruin in your future." The voices grow louder, "for you and all those that lend you their strength..." ]

[ In a black blue flame, his clothes change to his Phantom Thief outfit. He was wearing it during this battle, too... He's most comfortable in it. When Yu asks the question, Akira hesitantly points to their opponent across the field. ]

We kill a god.

[ It's a giant black cup with search lights and clockwork. If Yu remembers that strange, dark voice from earlier, it comes from the same entity: "you are a fool. The masses have already chosen a life without thinking on their own, without making decisions on their own...! They wished to be ruled over!"

Yikes. ]

[ Elliot and Akira are on wavelengths now. Akira pulls out the ingredients for his roommate, letting him make the batter with his magical (literally) fingers. He rests against the kitchen counter, slouching a bit.

And almost FALLS? A boyfriend? Oh damn. Does he say congratulations? What if they've been together for 3 years? That would be awful to say, then. He'll. Keep quiet. Don't make a fool out of yourself again, Kurusu. ]

There are different roles in the military and police force that you can probably fill, but... [ Hmmm. ] You're happiest playing music, right?

[ Ohhh my god? Is he a cop now? Not that Akira is against this—it comes with an attractive uniform, right? Anyway, it takes him a moment to absorb the situation and the new scenery before he picks up the walkie talkie. First, he has to admire how retro this is because he's a dumb millennial, but

okay. ]

Which direction?

[ HE WANTS TO ASK WHO, but he thinks that a commander shouldn't sound dumb. ]

[He'll get started on the batter. He's done this so many times, it's basically habit now. And Akira you could always ask how long they've been together, you know, like normal people do...]

Yeah, that's right. [Playing music was the only time he felt right] Not marching songs though. I hate those things.

[He normally wouldn't admit that, but there's been more than one person to try to persuade him to like the military because those things. What twisted creations.]

[...He has no idea what all that wind resistance talk is because hey high school drop out here. But Iwai just nods anyway before moving forward more so that way Akira has room to run past. He wants to run behind him so he can keep body blocking.]

Kid, why is this thing talking like it's after you?

It doesn't have to be "us two", you know.

[ because he's the knight of time, and there can be more than one of him. dave reaches for his sense of time, to start up a series of loops. ]

[ ...That guy? Their master, she'd assume, but Igor had never come off as the type of person who would sentence anyone to execution—

her thoughts are interrupted by the fire and she flinches away from it, grabbing Akira's arm to pull him up and away. Let's go, bud?! They're probably using some sort of Persona, and she already knows she can't fight other Persona users like this... How helpless, how hopeless. ]

We can't keep running. If they're anything like my other self, then they're not going to simply get tired from something like this. [ As unfortunate as it is. ] But I fear facing them head-on will end poorly for us, so... Any ideas?

[ You were only there for one heist, Goro, and you did the bad thing. Akira doesn't seem to notice just yet, but tilts his head at the recipient when it comes to light. That's... Weird. He's pretty sure this is Kamoshida castle. ]

Usually, we head back to reality and write the calling card... Kind of like roasting someone on the internet except in printed form? This wasn't part of what I remembered.

[ The change in recipient, the weird keyboard analog, just all of it is so strange— ]

But it is a dream. Just write whatever you want since you're so eloquent.

[ OH?! Akira is susprised. He was actually going to will a giant bird into existence, but this works out, too. He holds onto Daisuke's hand and watches as they ascend and descend like they're a baby bird. ]

I almost can't tell we're actually flying.

[ And they're over Recolle... It's such a nice view. ]

That's... They're really dedicated to their expectations, aren't they.

[ Nervous laugh. And no that's weird what kind of person asks about how long couples have been together what if you ask and then the next day they break up what is the point?? With the batter up and ready thanks to Elliot's chef expertise, Akira turns on the stove and places two pans, then vegetable oil so nothing sticks.

Where's those blasted squirt bottles they have? He hopes no one ended up putting ketchup or anything in it. Filling it up, he starts drawing little cat faces first. ]

I'm glad that you're following your heart though. It takes a lot of nerve to do that.

"He's headed towards the Earring of Dusk--"

[ The dialogue is cut short by a yell and loud noises as if someone knocked the walkie talkie out of their hands and it fell to the ground. Either way, there's nothing coming out of it anymore.

If Akira chooses to look around from where he stands, the space is pretty empty except there's a cube-like glass case. It has an intricate looking earring within the case, made of a dark gem with a nicely done border. It looks to be about 3 inches big, which is honestly pretty big for an earring, but here it is in all its glory. Off to the side, there is a short description of it, which reads:

To my dearly beloved,
My love for you shall live forever.
You, however, did not.

It's the target of the heist tonight. ]

Y-Yeah... [He gives a little sigh] They're good people, really.

[They did take Elliot in, and they did help people. They just...didn't fully know how to handle a kid that was very different from what they expected.

Also if Eren and Elliot broke up, you better be prepared to listen to over a month of very sad violin music. With Akira making those pancakes, Elliot will take his turn to lean against the counter to watch. Oh, those are skillfully made.

The compliment however, makes him pause, then shake his head.]

...Nerve I don't actually have, you mean. The only reason I've gotten this far is because of my brother and Eren. My brother works so hard to support me, and Eren's always encouraging me. Meanwhile, I can't even bring myself to declare a music major because I'm worried about how they'd react.

If it was just me? I'm sure I'd be back in Queens, enrolled at some police academy my aunt likes. Or a military school, like my other self.

[ Iwai, they have to move faster? Akira speeds past him despite his determination in being his shield. Of course he holds onto his wrist as they spread through the gap of its legs.

Move those bad boy legs. ]

Because it's from my memories.

[ Simple enough!! And it looks like he's right since the Angel is taking some time to turn... Slowly. ]

[ Okay, he got the hang of it now, so they're mostly flying smoothly. He tries to make Akira comfortable by attempting to hold his other hand as he flies over Recolle. Th view really is nice. He kind of want to stop, but he honestly might space out and accidentally let go of Akira in the process. And that would be Bad. ]

We don't usually get to fly so high like this, so it's a new experience, right?

Where should we go?

[ So... This is obviously a museum and these earrings have to be the Earring of Dusk. He's not sure why he's actually here aside from protecting this with his life, BUT. He does read the card.

This seems familiar&mdsah;oh, he knows what this is. ]

An actual Phantom Thief?

[ While he's a fan, this is really old school. A little excited, HE WAITS IN ANTICIPATION. Let's just watch the earrings for some time while holding onto the card like a fanboy. Who cares if he's security in this dream? Definitely not him. ]

[ They probably do, but it's not like he has any actual recollection of them fighting him. It's just pulled out of assumptions and what he has seen. Either way, he's dragged by Elizabeth from the burning bush... Unfortunately, it doesn't come with the voice of God that might grant them guidance.

To stall for time, he summons Yoshitsune to throw a ziodyne at the twins as they keep running. It lands, but they can only hear angry yelling from the loud twin. ]

We should probably dip into building... If they're appearing because of the fog, then they probably can't get to us if there isn't any?

[ Though... A lot of places are closed at this time. ]

[ Maybe it's the moonlight, but the earring seems to give off a gleam inside its case. Upon closer inspection, it looks like something is swirling inside the gem.

The electronic sliding door opens all of a sudden and in comes a fellow police officer. Though, this one looks more like a rookie feeding on beginner's luck. He's panting but once he spots Akira, he runs towards him. ]

"Has he come through here yet?"

... I haven't seen anything, but—[ Akira scrutinizes the earrings now that he catches the short gleam. It's almost like there's a mist inside the jewels, but he stays quiet a little longer in case anything happens.

His eyes dart around the room, to the windows, then to the rookie for a hot second before they're back on the earrings. ]

I did find a card. [ He holds it out to them. ] Are the earrings supposed to look like that?

[ Hmm... Akira looks below the city of Recolle. It's colorful and bright, though there are some bits of grey here and there. Despite that, it's... slowly turning color. The red spider veins are spreading. ]

It would be good if we can find the source of those veins.

[ The state of the buildings shift as the city pulses. ]

[...Good idea. Silver doesn't waste much time in settling down next to him and digging through his backpack until he pulls out a blanket. It's a pretty cold evening.]

And I could have been blown to bits.

[No, not just him. His Pokémon, too.]

When you told me about it, I didn't picture something that large. At least you can say you've taken it out twice now.

[ "Ah... Is this a trick?"

Akira, on the other hand, is also watching with intrigue, but he has to shake himself out of it. They're supposed to beat this cup, but it just... Seems to exist. The people also adore it to bits.

"I will play your game."

Arrows of light start shooting at Dave, randomly hitting whichever copy. It only needs to find the real one, right? Akira takes this opportunity to get closer to the cup, but it attempts to stop him with more pillars of light. With a brave blade, the cup shakes, spilling some of the "wishes" out of the chalice.

"You lowlife hooligan! This is the will of the people—"

The cup grows darker in color. ]

[ sena gets thrown back from their dual attack, making a pained face as he heals himself. akira wanting him to get away couple with the eerie voices coming out of the woodwork chanting about destroyed futures - ]

This is... so annoying...

[ he's staggering as he gets himself up on his feet, one hand clutching the other arm that's holding the sword, gritting his teeth in sheer irritation. ]

I didn't want this... I don't want anything to do with your phantom thief bullshit... Just because I acted as one in my past as an idol --

[ he and akechi are so similar, sena thinks, because let's assume their thread in the other's log happened before this. they both didn't want their peers to get involved with their respective shit, and it's all for good reason. sena had never thought that the both of them can be so fucking complicated...! ]

It's too late for that, don't you think? I'm just stuck as in this nightmare your created as you are, and it's not like we can get out of here easily.

[ the door would've vanished by now. either way, he turns to look at akira with a very audacious grin on his face. that's one more smile for the phantom thief's collection, i guess. ]

Let's finish this, Joker.

[ Ah... So Elliot hasn't changed his major yet. Akira assumed that he already enrolled in music, maybe composition or performance emphasis, but hushes up to listen. The pan sizzles as he adds the rest of the battle, letting the fluffy pancakes cook under the depreciating story.

Akira looks over to his friend before lowering his eyes back to the pancakes, flipping both over when they're ready. ]

But aren't you still trying? You could have rejected their support and stick with your relatives, never having the chance to even dream of doing any kind of music. You would be living the life they chose for you.

[ He's sure if Elliot had no nerves at all and accepted his relatives' pressure, he wouldn't be here. ]

It takes small steps—one decision at a time.
